Week around by motorhome
B Posts: 220
Hello All,
We are going to visit Queensland in May for 2 weeks and we have a motorhome rented for a week in Cairns. Can you please advise what are the MUST SEE places around?? I found the North Queensland Drive map on Queensland Board of Tourism but they list way too many options for a week time. We are thinking Cairns, Port Douglas, Cook Town, Mission Beach for sure but what else??
We would really appreciate any tips and suggestions;-)
Thanks,

Hello and sorry for the delay in responding, but have been on holiday myself and not seen this post.
You have mentioned most of the main sites, but make sure you head up to the Daintree and take a cruise to see the rainforest there. Another great stop is Mossman Gorge which is between Port Douglas and Daintree.
Also visit the Atherton Tablelands and drive The Waterfall Circuit, in addition to seeing the Barron Falls - the Tablelands are easily accessed from Port Douglas and Cairns. However, I think with a campervan it might be easier to drive up via Port Douglas - I remember the journey directly from Cairns being a bit steeper, but its been a while since I've driven there. Thanks for the reply ;-) As it is only 5 days to go really we have decided on the following: Cairns (2nights) -> Port Douglas (Carnival on the night we are there yuppi)-> Mossman -> Daintree -> Cape Trip (1 night)->Atherton and waterfalls (2 night)->Mission Beach (2 nigths)->Cairns. Seems easily doable in terms of driving as we don’t want to spend too much time in the car. Do you have any particular cruise in mind?? I checked few croc spotting ones that leave from the cable ferry place. Reply to this

This looks a good itinerary and the distances once you reach Cairns are not too great (well, not by Australian standards), and the scenery is lovely anyway, so you are not going to get bored. Roads are single lane most places but in good condition.
I don't have any cruise recommendation as cannot recall which one I used.
