Fines, do i have to be worried if i want to go back?
13 years ago, December 27th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #125389
HI all, i was a bit unlucky in Alice Springs in July 2005. Unfortunately Police stopped me. They found very little little weed in my car. i know, it wasen't the best thing to have with.
i needed to show them my passport, and they send me a letter at home. now, more than 5 years later, i am planning to go back to australia for a short term.
Does anyone knows what will happen? do i need to get the next flight back home or its erased?
Thanks Reply to this

Hi Leon,

Welcome to TravelBlog.

It may depend on what the fine was, but the best thing to do would be to check with the Australian embassy/consulate in your home country.

Hi Jo
thank you for your reply.
if i will check with them, do you think they will extend the fine (if its erased)?
or its the best thing, to go there and see what will happen?

I would definitely try to find out before going - it's always better to be honest with them.

Did you pay the fine, and did you lose your licence at the time? Reply to this

Your biggest mistake was to get caught in the Territory lol..other states wouldve been easier going on you. You should try and find out before you arrive if you are going to have a warrant for your arrest sitting there as a nice suprise when you pass through customs and your name enters the databases if you went to court and didnt pay the fine or if you were served with a notice to attend court and did not attend - this will result in a warrant sitting there on the system. If you did pay the fine then its still worth contacting the embassy before you arrive because you committed a crime on Aus soil so may be refused entry upon arrival.
