My flight to sydney was met with mixed feelings - as I loved HK so much and didn't want to leave, but was also so excited about heading to Australia... Felt weird to be sat at HK airport though and know that from now on I would be on my own. On the flight I ended up sat next to some aussie playboy pilot who flew for sleazyjet (and lived in berlin) but was now heading back to sydney to the flat that he'd just bought in bondi beach - straight off the internet though, so had never seen it 'in the flesh' in his life; some people are super crazy! Getting through customs and immigration at the airport was kind of interesting - as I was made to feel like I was doing something wrong ... read more

The weekend life in Sydney can be expensive. A lot of backpackers end up splashing their full wages (or money saved from home) on going out to clubs & pubs, which was something we were looking to avoid due to our finances. Sitting in our flat isn't particularly fun though due to uncomfortable seating, assorted mess from our flatmate, and the cockroach situation. On the Sunday of the weekend that started in the last blog, was the public celebration of St Patricks Day (a day earlier here this year), an organised drinking day. We still had some money left in our weekly budget, so we decided to partake in the festivities. Guinness must be rubbing their grubby mits each year in March, as in reality, St Patricks Day is more of a lucrative sales day than ... read more

Oh my goodness, I cannot tell you how excited I was about seeing my first ever Mardi Gras - not that it's somethign I could have avoided really as the parade pretty much passed my lovely pink front door, and on top of it all Saturday the 1st March was my 6 months of travelling anniversary - what a way to celebrate!! We decided to make the most of the sun and spent the majority of the day on Bondi Beach, but sods law when we arrived there it was too cold to do anything more than look at the sea and shiver! So instead we got back on the bus to the main shopping centre, Bondi Junction, which is about 10 mins from the beach on the bus, and met up with some friends of ... read more

The start of another working week, or so we thought. However... I got fired from my job at Pamcat! Well, my assignment was terminated anyway on the Tuesday and I don't really feel too much at fault. As I said in the last blog, I had slowed my pace at work and was just doing my follow up calls each day having not received any further instruction. Because there weren't too many to do each day, I casually surfed the net to kill time, although I was still making it all the way through my load. However, half an hour before my lunch, I got a call from Adecco saying that the manager of the office had phoned wanting to end my assignment immediately. It was pretty bizarre as the manager sat opposite me and obviously ... read more

Sydney Mardi Gras Here goes for probably our last entry from Australia. Arrived in Sydney last Wednesday and took full advantage of the very comfortable hotel room after so many weeks in the tent (even though that was surprisingly comfortable too) (Paul is very sad tht he has now sold it) Had to change hotels on Friday as Sydney is full due to the 30th Annual Mardi Gras and made the mistake of overdoing things at the Bars on Oxford Street the night before. Checked into the new hotel, grabbed ourselves a nice greasy fry up and again took full advantage of the comfy bed. Went to watch the Mardi Gras parade on Saturday evening, then a quick change back at the Hotel for the Mardi Gras party at Fox Studios. Finally staggered back to our ... read more

G'day mates! Just got back from the Cyndi Lauper concert. It was great. Well, I'm a bit tired - just a little after 1am here. I also had some technical issues with the camera, so no new pictures tonight. Check back Monday morning for a new blog and pictures. Cheers!... read more

Here is the Mardi Gras festival, famous gay and lesbian parade with lots of trucks and bikes!! This year was the 30th anniversary and everyone was celbrating (pretty much everyone was gay and happy - pardon the pun!). A memorable day.... read more

G'day mates! Happy Mardi Gras! Today is my "early" Mardi Gras edition. The Parade doesn't start until 7:30pm (3:30am EST), so I thought I would add some pictures in the mean time. There will be a "late" Mardi Gras edition later on, so keep an eye out! Today I dared to climb the heights of the Sydney Tower. I'm not big on heights, but the admission was included with my Aquarium ticket, so I thought, what the heck. I only stayed at the top for a few minutes to snap a couple of pictures and quickly got on the "lift" to go back down to the base. Then I went on Oz trek. Pretty touristy film about the "Down Under" in four different languages. The seats moved and it was sort of like virtual reality. I ... read more

G'day everyone! Today was an eventful day. I woke up early and surprise, I had a sunburn! Luckily I remembered to bring sunblock (just forgot to put it on yesterday). I started out with a long walk down Oxford Street. This is where the Mardi Gras Parade will be on Saturday night. Unfortunately, everything was closed (it was about 8am) except for some cafes. I walked through Centennial Park. It was very pretty and the wildlife (mostly ducks), were more than happy to swim by and say hi (well, I think they really wanted food, but I didn't have any). I then took the train over to Darling Harbour and spent a few hours at the Aquarium. See the "Find Nemo" picture. I then bused it to Circular Quay (pronounce key) where I got on a ... read more

G'day everyone, Wow, what a long trip. I forgot what it was like to be on a plane for 20+ hours. Either way, the trip was uneventful. I had an aisle seat with no one next to me, so the flight from LA to Sydney wasn't so bad. I arrived at the hotel early and my room wasn't available. So, I dropped my bags off and went out to get myself acquainted with the city. I didn't take many pictures, mostly because it was an effort to stay awake (and I looked pretty travel worn). I just realized I left the wire to connect my camera to my computer 10,000 miles away at home. No worries mates! I will find an internet cafe that will allow me to download pictures from my camera's memory card. Hopefully ... read more
