22nd December 2005 We had booked a tour called "Spirit of the Night Sky", we were to be picked up at 7.30pm so we waited at reception expecting to see a minibus or coach. However by 7.30pm nothing had arrived, so we wandered around the front of the Hotel, then suddenly a young woman appeared and said "Are you two guys booked on Spirit of the Night Sky?" we replied that we were and she explained that she worked for Laksar Burra and would be taking us to meet him at the venue. She had parked her car in the carpark [View Full Entry]

"The Milky Way"

22nd December 2005 After the rigours of yesterday at Uluru, we were glad to have a bit of a lay in. So after a good sleep we rose about 9.30am, showered then out for a cup of coffee and croissant in town. We had previously booked for “A town called Alice” tour of the highlights of the town but this was not till the afternoon. We also booked for “Spirit of the night sky” a unique look at the stars at night which was for the evening. (I shall write a separate Blog for this experience). So after some lunch in [View Full Entry]

21st December 2005 Oh dear! I have been under the misapprehension that Uluru was a short bus or taxi ride out of Alice Springs. How wrong can a person be? It is actually 440 Km, or 41/2 hours away. In other words the distance between London and Exeter. Well too late, the trip was booked on the internet in London so we are committed, so we were picked up at 6.00am by the Emu Run Bus and after a couple of pick- ups, we headed out on the Stuart Highway into the countryside. We had two guides who were probably in [View Full Entry]

20th December 2005 Hiya Folks, I rose early at 7.15am, as I wanted to complete the Cairns Blogs in the internet Room. Then back to the Hotel room where I had left David sleeping and after packing last minutes things we checked out and got a taxi to the airport. 15 - 20 minutes later we arrived at the Domestic terminal and checked in for our flight to Alice Springs. Our plane was a Boeing 707 that took 125 passengers, but the flight was less than 1/2 full, so we had the pick of seats and as the plane had two [View Full Entry]

17th December 2005 REST DAY IN CAIRNS Hi again Folks, Got up fairly early, then walked down along the beach front to the Lagoon (A sort of lido swimming pool, right on the "Nard") (Promenade) On the way we saw spoonbills and pelicans hundreds of them bobbing up and down on the water like an armada. When you spot Pelicans in the air they looked like the 747 Jumbo jets of the bird world, with their curvy necks and and long beaks with the flabby skin below. Cairns front is peppered with Restaurants of all types, but most of them serve [View Full Entry]

15th December 2005 Our flight to Cairns on Qantas was due to leave at 9.40am so we got the minibus arranged for us by the Hotel at 7.15am and soon we were speeding to the airport. We had a very good flight just over 2 hours; we then had a cab to the Tropical Queenslander Comfort Inn in North Cairns. The Rooms was very comfortable, with a main bedroom 2 beds and kitchen fully equipped. There are 2 pools, the one nearest our room (in our wing they are all facing onto the pool) also has a Jacuzzi (fantastic) so we [View Full Entry]

13th December 2005 Hiya Folks, We decided to go for the day to the Blue Mountains. So after a a small breakfast we set off for Kings Cross Station, just minutes walk away from the Hotel and bought 2 return tickets to Katoomba. Sounds like something out of the Lion King that song, what was it? "Hakuna matata" thats it ,well this is Katoomba Matata. Anyway the ticket included a bus tour as well a sort of hop on, hop off arrangement. The train left at 11 am and so we set off through all the outer suburbs of Sydney, the [View Full Entry]

Hiya Folks, Well we have now arrived in Queensland, well just a couple of hour ago actually and settled into our Hotel The Comfort Inn Queenslander, a perfect base with good clean accommodation and "heaven" 2 swimming pools and Jaccuzzi. And as they have their own internet room, thought I would relay a brief extract of my notes on the bridge walk in Sydney, so here goes. 12th December 2005 Woke up to a glorious cloudless sky, ideal for the bridge walk. It is a particularly poignant day for me as 10 years ago my Dad passed away so it seems [View Full Entry]

Our Group at the top of the bridge

Sunday 11th December 2005 Up early 7.30am, breakfast in hotel, then out. We took train from Kings Cross to Martin Place, walked through the city with its high rise blocks of tinted glass, concrete and stainless steel. Walked down to the harbour front and around the key to the Opera House. We did the usual tourist things taking photo's of ourselves in front of the Opera House, walked up the banks of steps onto the podium. Up close, the glistening shells are covered in cream and off white glazed tiles, which have been set out in a chevron pattern. David had [View Full Entry]

It seems that the internet places do not like you loading photo's on their equipment, so I may need to load these on later to the individual journals when we get back to David's brothers place on his p.c. Apologies for this in advance but I promise later I will have them added."
