"Sydney Harbour Bridge"
"If you look closely you can see the Bridge climbers" Wednesday 9th December 2005
Gday Folks!!
There you go!! getting Australianised already.
"Just a quick word about photo's before I move on. It seems that the internet places do not like you loading photo's on their equipment, so I may need to load these on later to the individual journals when we get back to David's brothers place on his p.c. Apologies for this in advance but I promise later I will have them added."
We got up early on Wednesday morning and after a light breakfast we that is David, Bobbi and me, headed out driven by David this time towards Perth airport Domestic Terminal to catch the flight to Sydney. As we were early, David decided to take a look at where the family used to live so we drove around his boyhood haunts, his primary and high schools the house where the family lived, the parks and area's frequented as a boy. We also called in at a local Shopping Mall and did a little shopping then after a light snack headed out for the airport and another exciting flight.
The flight was scheduled for 3.15pm and after checking in we waited in
the Departure lounge and the flight was called on time. Once aboard and airborne, we were served dinner, Sydney time is three hours ahead so it was 6.15pm in Sydney, to keep up we changed our watches and settled in to the flight. There were such enormous tail winds that the speed of the plane showed over 1000 Km per hour so the journey right accross the continent took only 3.5 hours "absolutely amazing" I had the window seat so I observed the land flashing by beneath us we headed across the "Great Australian Bight" and flew just North of Adelaide we touched down in Sydney in the dark well before schedule. Then through quickly with the luggage and out to a waiting taxi, arriving at The Crest Hotel in Darlinghurst Road Kings Cross after approximately 20 - 25 minutes. The area looked a bit like Soho in London, a few undesirables present and it was absolutely hopping and lively when we checked into the Hotal. However the Room was quite adequate, clean and everything we could need so we were quite happy. And so after unpacking we had a walk out and had a drink in a pub then
back to the hotel and to bed.

The alarm was set for 9.30am and after waking ourselves up I opened the curtains to blinding light, the heat on the windows was terrific, beautiful blue clear skies greated us as we eagerly showered dressed and went out. We decided to go to Bondi beach for a bit of rest first, which we did by train from Kings Cross station just adjacent to the Hotel, then changed at Bondi junction onto a 380 bus that took us to the beach. What a beach!! a beautiful curve of white coral sugary fine sand that made a strange crunching sound when you walked on it. We had bought beach towels in town and water before we left. So we settled down on the beach and went swimming a couple of times in the greeny, turquoise and dark blue water. After applying sun cream and sunbathing for a few hours we decided to take it easy and not over do it on the first day, so we headed back into town dropping our swimming gear off at the hotel and heading off by train again. We purchased a weekly red zone tourist ticket which is valid on trains buses and ferries (a good saving tip, brilliant). We arrived at circular quay and there it was, that famous view of Sydney Harbour the bridge and the Opera House set perfectly in the bright blue expanse of the harbour with a clear blue sky and small scudding clouds above. It was absolutely beautiful and a moment I will not forget, the hues of blue, the bridge almost in sillouette and the dazzling creamy white shells of the opera house, "blue on blue" fabulous!!
From Circular Quay we got the ferry to Darling Harbour and a lovely trip under the bridge with various stops before arriving at the destination a late snack break of potato wedges and dip and a beer, I cannot think of anything better than relaxing in that setting. We arrived back at the hotel for a shower and then out to dinner at Waggamumas and onto a great club and dancing. It was the early hours when we finally walked back to the hotel. My head touched the pillow and then a dreamless sleep took hold. Fabulous Sydney "blue on blue" what will be revealed tomorrow, I just cant wait!!
Keep logging on for more news!!
