I'm baaaaaaack...... What began as a quick refresher course in Western living back home, has turned into the World's Longest Farewell Tour and an eternity of waiting and shifting moods. Reverse culture shock shifted to restlessness, to excitement to leave, which dulled to eager anticipation and onward to boredom. In the 6-week eternity of being an unemployed bum, living with my parents (as opposed to the wandering vagabond, living wherever my head found a pillow I was while traveling - which is way cooler, honestly), I nearly forgot the excitement, slipping back into a routine and a normal view of the world. I now see how your viewpoint as a transient drifter in no way resembles that of a permanent dweller, regardless of how permanent you actually are. A random conversation with a stranger or a ... read more

Well, last day in Boston today. Feeling more relaxed about the whole trip and move to Australia now that we are getting used to the idea. We'll feel like seasoned travellers once we arrive in Melbourne. The weather in Boston could not have been better. Clear blue skies all day, every day. Temperatures slowly rising to high 20's low 30's by about 5pm, then hovering around mid 20's all evening. Lovely. I am starting to lose my blue English hue and beginning to sport a rather nifty T-Shirt tan. Boston weather has been pretty much perfect, New York may be another story - could be 8 - 10 degrees warmer and a damn sight stickier. Walked our feet off again today, it's all good training for what’s to come. Made a pact to always take the ... read more

Hello everyone. This is it - first post of the trip, all the planning and sorting over the last few months have led to this point. Mum and Dad dropped us at the airport on Saturday, it wasn't nice to say goodbye. The flights were great, smooth all the way. We were delayed out of Newcastle by about half an hour so we had a rush to get the connection at Heathrow, ( which was then delayed about 50 mins anyway ). It was a relatively short 6 1/2 hour flight to Boston, got into Logan airport at 19:15 Boston time ( 1:15am Boro time ). Grabbed a cab to our digs, checked in, then headed out for some pizza. Crashed about 22:00 and slept like logs. It's taking a little while to get used to ... read more

Next up cam the Spirit of America. That is what is written on the Car licence plates. (Every state has a motto) Staying just north of down town I took a ride in a taxi whose driver had apparently carried Prince Harry a few days ago. His friends said it was him and he was British and he was ginger!!!! Anyway looking round downtown Boston I started walking around the freedom trail. Boston is home to the start of the constitution, American independence, a massacre and a tea party. My personal favourite was the Cheers bar! - Where everybody knows your name! The Hollywood cheers bar is located in Quincy Market. Which is a nice area with food courts, market stalls and shops. In the evening I met with a friend from Australia who lives there. ... read more

Our first entry. Arrived safe and sound and got re-located to the Hilton Hotel! Got a suite all to ourselves as the hotel we were booked into was booked up. Turned out to be a good move. Room and hotel are lovely, no extra charge. Weather has been very nice on the first day so we did a bus tour, boat cruise across to the islands and walked part of the freedom trail. we really like Boston. Had a brilliant fish supper. Today it rained a bit so we did some 'shopping' (Michaerl loves it!!) and walked around the different districts. Got to know the "T' system well (their underground). Found some very posh shops with lots of designer labels in Copley Square. Had a restless afternoon yesterday - now I know why - how did ... read more

August 7, 2007 With the blog back up and I think mostly accounted for here are some new pictures of last weeks class along with our field trip to the Blue Hills Observatory near Boston, and other pics around Boston. Today Molly & I signed up to be hair models! This meant we went to a fancy shmancy hair salon on Newbury and paid a pittance for them to practice on our hair. The style they were learning was the Bob, but a contemporary one not a classic one. So it is angled towards the front, Molly’s more than mine. She did not want us to end up with the same haircut but they are very similar. I guess in the big cities one can sign up to be a hair model and get a decent ... read more

Friday 3rd August So it was time to move on...again! Catching a midday bus from Quebec to Montreal, we said goodbyes to Megan and Roman and got back on the road. Arriving in Monteal it was yet another scorcher, and not having yet sorted a hostel we eventually found a university halls that were renting out their rooms for the summer break. Me and Michael paired up once again which is becoming a theme....bonuses include midnight snuggling (don't ask) and unlimited access to Michael's snack collection...the big negative being his mouldy, rotting, decrepid trainers which have almost become a fifth member of the trip and have started to move. Lets start a campaign to get them evicted. All those in favour........... We spent the evening walking down St Catherines st, a massive long street in Montreal ... read more

Our trip into New England began on Tuesday the 31st July, about 2 days after we had planned. Our time in Canada had been so enjoyable that we had spent an additional couple of days in Ontario which limited our time in New England. After reading through the ever-trusty Lonely Planet Guide (we’ll never travel without one of these suckers) we picked out a path that would lead us through all six of the New England states. The main sites we had picked out were New Hampshire’s White Mountains National Park, Vermont’s covered Bridges, Yale in Connecticut, Rhode Island’s Mansions, and finally Martha’s Vineyard (from Fi - my pick, always wanted to go there) and Boston in Massachusetts. Maine Having really loved our time in Quebec City we departed with a feeling of regret that we ... read more

So, after 5 days of waiting patiently for the Travelblog website to get back up and running, I come back to find that these muppets have royally fucked up the server and memory and lost nearly every blog posted in the last 3 months. What a coincidence, I was on the road for those last 3 months. So all my entries are gone. Cool, huh? Is there anybody out there that happened to save any of my entries? I can recreate most of them from print outs I have here, but I've completely lost my last 2 posts from Shanghai & Beijing. Anything you can send me would molto appreciato. What assholes....... read more
