Well - we're not exactly travelling again, but this has proven the easiest way for us to get photos and videos out, so we thought we'd put a few of the little bloke up. Time has flown by, and he's now only a few days shy of 3 months old. It's amazing how quickly he's changing - it seems like every day he's doing something new so its a pretty amazing experience. Anyway, here's a few photos to check out! Thankfully he looks like Fi!! [View Full Entry]

If you haven't heard yet, Fiona and I welcomed Patrick James Anderson into the world at 0723 on 30 June 09, yes, he's a End of the Financial Year Baby. He's just a little fella, weighing in at 2.9kg, but we are blessed as he's healthy, strong and a beautiful little guy. We'd also like to thank you all for your overwhelming generosity. From the baby shower gifts, to flowers and thoughtful messages, Fiona and I were really touched by all your kindness and generosity - Thank you. If we haven't been in touch yet, we will be doing so shortly [View Full Entry]

G'day all - this is just a really quick post to put up some photos of where we are living at the moment. We have found a fantastic place in the eastern suburbs of Sydney at Coogee Beach. For those who don't know Sydney it's about 10 mins drive to the city and about 5 mins in the car to the famous Bondi Beach. Coogee itself is a pretty sheltered beach so there's no big waves, but another five minutes south is Maroubra Beach which gets some great surf. There's quite a few cafes and restaurants around and we have a [View Full Entry]

What did Russel Crowe say, something about the 'beating heart of Rome'?
With our time in Florence finished we grabbed a train to the southern coast of Italy, to the Amalfi Coast. The first stop was Naples and we toyed with the idea of spending the day there and seeing the sights, but dragging our luggage around quickly put that idea on the back burner. It turned out to be a good idea too, because it was quite a journey to get ourselves to the small town of Sorrento which would be our home for the next 3 days. From Naples we jumped a local train which rattled it's way around the Bay [View Full Entry]

I was disappointed to find it was in fact not made from Pizza at all.....
After hogging an entire first class compartment and sleeping most of the trip from Innsbruck we arrived in Venice on a cool Italian night which was actually warmer than most of the maximum day temperatures we'd experienced in Western Europe. We'd been looking forward to hitting Italy, not only for the food, culture and art, but also to escape the sub-zero weather we'd had to date. The forecast temperatures of 10 - 12 degrees across most of Italy seemed positively balmy after freezing our good bits off for the past month. We walked out of the Venice train station to be [View Full Entry]

The first stop on the short Austria leg of our trip to Austria was Salzburg which is famous for being Mozart's hometown, and where they filmed 'The Sound of Music'. We caught the train from Munich and traveled through some of the most picturesque countryside we have seen to date. The snow covered Alps provided a rugged backdrop as the train quietly rolled through green hills and past quaint little towns. We arrived at Salzburg and made the short work to our hotel. Throughout our travels we have tried to find hotels pretty close to the train station and then we [View Full Entry]

German beer is good for you - a German Doctor told me so!!
The first stop on the German leg of our tour started by catching up with our friends Thomas, Nina and their two boys who live up near the North West coast of Germany. We met Thomas while he was working in Jacksonville on an exchange posting with the US Navy. Thomas was the bloke who got me into Triathlons and we did a couple of the short distance ones together before he returned to Germany in late 2007. Thomas and Nina live in a beautiful house they built in a small town called Nordholz shortly before they were told of Thomas' [View Full Entry]

Our trip to Amsterdam started less than ideally with our train breaking down halfway through the voyage. We were forced to wait on a siding for over two hours while a new engine was sent from the next station to come and pick us up. After our eventual arrival we caught one of the trams that provides the bulk of Amsterdam's public transport to our hotel. We checked into our room which was pretty bloody small, and even though it had an ensuite, I could barely fit get into it because it was so narrow. We then walked the ten minutes [View Full Entry]

The first stop on our Belgium leg of the trip is a small town just over the French border by the name of Ypres (or Ieper in Flemish). Ypres holds a significant place in Australian history as it saw significant fighting in the First World War and thousands upon thousands of Australians are buried there. To place its significance in perspective, of the 55,000 Australians killed in the Great War, about 9,000 died on the Gallipoli Peninsula with the majority of the rest on the Western Front, many of whom fell in the Ypres area. The town itself was completely destroyed [View Full Entry]
