Here are some photos of my stay in Boston which will tell you what I've been up to in the last few days. What you won't see is the theater performance Pam and I are going to see tonight: It's called "Bread and Puppet" and is done by seven puppeteers from Vermont who'll be accompanied by a local Boston brass band. And yesterday afternoon I saw a movie: "In Bruges", a rather violent thriller but with excellent acting and beautiful shots of the Belgian city. I also had a lovely dinner the other night in Brookline with my friend Mia, whom I met in Maine last summer, and today it's lunch with my dear friend Maura. As you can tell, I'm very lucky to have some great friends here, and I love Boston. It's a university ... read more

Geo: 42.3586, -71.0567So, slight detour/delay in my trip. My Grandmother fell and broke her leg over the holidays; she's been healing well, but slowly and is graduating from Physical Rehab Thursday. She couldn't manage the stairs at the old house, so my grandparents will be moving into a new condo with an elevator on Wednesday. Needless to say it'll be a pretty busy week for them with the move, and getting Mimi reacquainted back into normal life after three months in recovery. So, I'm going back east for a week to stay with them, help unpack, and help in general with the million of little things that'll inevitably need doing in getting settled.I'll just delay my departure for my trip by a week or so, and as a side bonus, I'll get my Visa application/passport into ... read more

Friday 11th January: Had a half day today but Kev had to go off and do some paperwork, so it took me 100 minutes to get home by public transport in the rain and had a message from Ryan when I got home. But I was in a foul mood and just ate junk food and watched Liza Minelli (in New York, New York) trying hilariously to out act De Niro. Amazing! Ate pizza with Laura when she got in from work and chilled on the couch in front of House. God, Hugh Laurie is quality! On Saturday I walked Reilly around the pond and watched the kids for a couple of hours until Laura’s friend Regina arrived from Ireland for a few days of extreme shopping. I made a curry for seven (me, Laura, Reg, ... read more

Geo: 42.3586, -71.0567Hey so the movers came on Wednesday (Dec 26) and took away everything in apartment. It's all packed and in storage, awaiting my arrival date in San Francisco for shipping. The cats are safely settling in at Mom's house, and I embark for the first stop on my trip (San Francisco) on Sunday. I'll be in Boston for Christmas with the family this weekend. And one last good home cooked meal at Uncle Bob's before I head off to who knows what the hell I'll be eating =). Merry Christmas everyone!... read more

Thursday 20th December - After a hard day’s drilling (I’m not talking women or meatball subs here), Kev took myself, John, and Corey out to a bar called The Cellar in Cambridge where we drank pint after pint on the company. Six Guinness and an unbelievable burger later, we moved on to the Plough & Stars pub, where we had two more listening to a loud band in the corner in eye patches and leather waistcoats that craicked us up before heading home. Shouldn’t really have let Kev drive but we were not getting home any other way and he said he felt fine, although I was busting for a whazz all the way back. When I got in Laura and Clare were there with Xmas lights and decorations and I only realised how pissed I ... read more

I arrived at my hostel in the Back Bay area of Boston at 2am on Wednesday morning, after a 14 hour Greyhound trip which was no fun at all. I got up at 9am to cash in on the free breakfast, and then phoned a friend from Penn State who I knew was in Boston with another friend. Turned out they were both staying two doors down the corridor from me. I had a well earned shower and then headed to the middle of town, the Boston common, with Lois and Sam. The girls went shopping, and I went to the tourist booth at Boston common to start on the freedom trail historical tour of Boston. It was probably a couple of degrees below freezing, and there was snow everywhere. The whole common was covered in ... read more

I write this from a Greyhound (promise me you will never catch a Greyhound bus EVER) bus en-route from New York City to Boston. This is my fourth transfer, along with the customary Greyhound frustrating delay on a 14 hour trip which could have taken 8. I started and finished my exams yesterday (Monday) with two finals. Both were pretty easy so I should do ok. I finished my second at 4:30pm and went straight back to my dorm and started packing up. In that time I also managed to organise a farewell dinner at an Indian restaurant downtown to say goodbye to everyone. It's very strange saying goodbye to some people for probably the last time ever. I don't have a standard for that. After the dinner a few of us went to an apartment ... read more

Hello all and welcome to my travel blog. I hope to keep it updated regularly with our antics and photos so check back often! Miss you all!! So, we have arrived safely at our starting point - Boston, Massachusetts. I was expecting very cold weather but am overjoyed that it hasn't set in yet and it still feels like Fall (yes fall!). We are staying in my brother's house and while he and his family are away this week we just have to share with their beautiful dog - Reilly. Tom has fallen hard for Reilly so it'll be a struggle to leave her I think! We've been taking it easy this week in anticipation for starting work next Monday. Yesterday was Thanksgiving which we spent with my other Brother's family in Stoneham, North of Boston. ... read more
