So, you know what they say about all the best set plans... okay, I don't know what they say about all the best set plans, but I've come to understand that there is some sort of glitch in every single big trip that I plan - and I'm hoping that this was it. Yesterday, I was released from a 3-day, 2-night stay at the hospital... my diagnosis isn't worth posting here, but obviously it wasn't what you'd call a good time. Not to mention, yes, it did mean a delay in my departure for Europe. Go figure. So, I'm back to counting down the days. I have to count my blessings, too, though because I AM still going to Europe. I'll be leaving on Sunday evening and will get in on Monday afternoon when my TA ... read more

Spent the last week going round Boston. Entertaining and diverse city. Also easy to escape so the beautiful coastline both North and South were just waiting to be discovered. Day 1 Arrive Boston early evening, wander slightly aimlessly looking for the hostel. Asked 7 people where the road was until being rescued by a very nice woman who pointed up at a sign about 30 feet away and said "you're here" Doh. Crashed onto bed in ok hostel. Joined in a pathetic scramble for beds in our room. All asigned bed numbers which someone weeks ago had decided to ignore. For the rest of the week, everytime someone came in the room to find someone in there bed, they started muttering. Left a few to fight it out when 2 people wanted the same bed. Pretty ... read more

Thanks to supreme surgeons and everyones' prayers, our 6 year-old Megan came through her recovery in record breaking time. We anticipated a 3 week recovery in Boston. No way! Megan could blow bubbles better than before her surgery. Her back is straight and lungs have room to grow. She will return for back adjustment surgery periodically until she's done growing . Right now, she just wants to go swimming! Olympics watch out! The family went home to Indiana, Aunt Sherri to So Carolina and Uncle Mike to Dallas. We will do the tourist thing now in Boston and then head to the Catskills; looking for Bigfoot!... read more

Odd that those words rarely inspire...and continue in that fashion even today. Rather than just going west we packed up my pint-sized civic last Thursday and headed...east. Maybe it was because Stefanie has a sister who lives in Boston, or maybe because there are some pretty cool climbing destinations in New Hampshire and Maine respectively; more likely yet is that my neuroses took hold and prevented me from simply starting at an arbitrary point like...New York. And thus began the "tag up" - heading east to go west. In typical lackluster fashion, the plan soon changed from climbing in New England to playing Rock Band in New England and going to the beach. The beach actually worked out nicely, as the oceans will act as proverbial bookends containing the diaries of these wanderings... I would like ... read more

Nothing is better than being off my feet for a good while at this point. Voila, the free trolley ticket I got yesterday came in handy so I spent my second day morning riding around town before getting off at Sheraton hotel where I got on. My feet liked me that morning. Yesterday we had dinner at one of the restaurants in Faneuil Hall Marketplace. The best way to get there was to take subway. This Boston subway ride has given me more appreciation of DC subway and you'll see why. Above the ground Boston seems close to a heaven to me nice architecture, clean, and green. That's not so when you go underground. There's no well designed architecture to enjoy and no good air flow to help you breathe comfortably. Three stations I was in ... read more

So After another few days without filling in my blog i will try to fill it in more now. Let me see sunday i did pretty much nothing i watched the Spain vs Italy match washed some clothes had the worst nights sleep ever due to a snorer. Which sucked because monday I had a big day planed. I woke up at 7am and got some breakfast. Walked to get a sea bus (which is a boat not a bus) over to the north shore. I met Fiona and we headed up to grouse mountain. Which was a short drive. Here you can get a cable car up to the top of the mountain where they have 2 grizzly bears. I offered one a fight but the chicken shit cowered behind an electric fence pussy. We ... read more

Now check out the pics:... read more

My first chapter of New England adventure started in Boston, Massachusetts. The city I had heard about for a long time but never had a chance to experience it myself. Well, I can't complain this time. I had 3 full days in Boston and I had to make the most out of this opportunity. Why 3 days? because Doug had a conference here. So now you can probably guess that I was exploring Boston alone but that's okay. Solo or duo, I was ready. First off I had to say that we were lucky. Our hotel was right in the middle of Boston making it so convenient to get to places. It was chosen according to the conference location. I had many choices for transportation: bus, subway, and taxi. Well, those were not what I chose. ... read more
