Hello all! Hope things are still going well down there, only a few more days until we will be back in good ol Aus! Been having a lot of fun over here getting a taste of some different places in this huge country other than Mammoth, we travelled up to Reno (apparently the biggest little city in the world, whatever that means) for a night then had pretty much a full day of travel via bus/train to San Fran. Our experience here has been great, not least to do with the bright sun and comparitively warm weather (we've been wearing shorts and t-shirts although we seem to be the only ones, a few months of zero degree temps will make anything seem warm!) but all the shops and differing displays of culture have kept things interesting. ... read more

Another day of the San Francisco life! Pretty low-key, but an enjoyable day. We made our way back to the train station and across the bay to San Fran (our hotel, a Hilton, is in Emeryville, across the bay from San Francisco, chosen for its proximity to the Amtrak station for our departure tomorrow). From the public train, we caught a transfer via bus towards the Golden Gate Park. We met two crazy characters on the bus, one more menacing than the other. First, we met a guy standing at the bus stop who asked where we were from, where we were headed, etc. This guy took a pretty absurd interest in making sure that we got of the bus at the right stop. He explained in detail which stop we shoudl request and even went ... read more

Today was one of thost busy days where you do lots and lots but at the end of the day have done surprisingly little. Disembarking a cruise ship is always time consuming as you have to clear customs and INS, get your baggage inspected, etc. At around 9 o'clock we were off the ship and on a cab to Oakland. Once here we took a nap first thing. Afterwards, we made our way down to the train station to catch a local train back over to San Francisco. All along the way we ate lunch and did some shopping. We finally ended up at The Stinking Rose which is a great Italian place on Columbus Street in San Francisco. Their claim to fame is that they cook with gargantuan amounts of garlic. We're talking garlic levels ... read more

After a mammoth flight from Auckland to Los Angeles, we make the short hop by air from LA to San Fransisco. There we were able to meet up with Nikki, a friend we had met for the first time - of all places - on the tarmac as we were boarding that dodgy plane from Phonsavan to Vientiane! Small world.... read more

Okay so last night we went to Fishermans Wharf. Interesting place (didn''t get a crab - cause we couldn't get served) so we ended up with chicken (at least we think that is what it was :) The day started just like we have seen most days here in the US - wet and rainy. Mark attended his last sessions for the Conference and then we went looking for somewhere nice for lunch - we ended up at Monticello Inn - which was great (yes that means highly recommended and they also have a kids menu and a sign in the window which reads Kids Welcome) then we slowly made our way down to Macy's to mail our letters and then on to get our Go San Francisco Cards at which time we had a "Wardrobe ... read more

Las Vegas! When you arrive in Las Vegas you ony have to look around the airport to know youre here, casinos everywhere! We decided to do Las Vegas in style and stay on the strip for the 5 days we were here, we chose The Flamingo and The Excalibur, the Excalibur looks like a Disney castle its very beautiful. I cant describe how beautiful the rooms were and we had a bath!!!!!!!!!!! For us Las Vegas was a chance to chill in luxuary for a bit and hit the designer shops for me. We went to four shows, tournament of the the Kings, (was ok) lots of jolsting on horseback and sword fighting, Lance Burton the magician, this was brilliant. Will really loves magic and it was amazing, he was making people disapear left right and ... read more

Hi all Well here we are coming close to the end of our time in the US and missing those babies H-E-A-P-S!! (sorry about the caps!) Yesterday we made a decision- (because the airlines we flew - and most of you know which ones - were a little rough on our luggage) we are going to have to replace Nicola's suitacase - the handle is splintered, half of the make-up crushed and zips that will not work any more so we went up to Macy's (hehehe) and have found the one we are after and will go back tomorrow and actually buy them. This will also allow us to also have an extra suitacase for all the shopping - bear in mind we have already sent home 2 very large boxes of goodies home too!! We ... read more
