Ok so we made it alive after our hurtling journey to the airport and safely found ourselves a hostel in Dowtown San Francisco. On the second night of our stay there we went to a Chinese/Vietnamese resturaunt called The House of NanKing, it was seriously good food! There was a picture of Jamie Oliver on the wall and as I say the food was exquisite and came at a very low price considering how much we got... good old American portions! After two nights in the Downtown hostel we moved out to Fisherman's wharf in a place called Fort Mason which had good views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz based up on top of a hill. Once we'd settled in we walked around the Fisherman's wharf area, which was pretty much stereotypicaly San Francisco-an; ... read more

I'm sitting here in Ian Hill's house in the neighborhood of Russian Hill in San Francisco. California is such a diverse and spectacular state given the face that there are positives and negatives to every location/place on this earth. Moving from San Diego to LA was narly because i was able to visit Orange county, home of laguna, newport, and huntington beaches. Eventually I arrived in Beverly Hills LA with two of brothers from high school. I checked out the Westwood village/UCLA area, Santa Monica, Venice, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, West Hollywood etc. Even saw Jack Black at the grocery store and a few more upcoming stars. Hottest club in LA has to be Area and since we didn't pull up in a ferrari, yellow lamborghini, or McLaren....our appreance, looks, and attire led the way ... read more

12/8/2006 11:23 AM I’m not normally a fan of San Francisco for a number of reasons but this trip was alright. Our arrival at the club was early so we grabbed some beer and pizza slices from a place next to the club. It was Sunday evening and there really wasn’t anyone in the area. Eventually the club employees arrived and we started the routine; unload the bus, brief introductions, talk of drinks and food, set up, sound check, blah, blah, blah, wash, rinse, repeat. After having been in the club for about an hour a good friend of the band, Mike Pickle, showed up with camera in tow. It was good to see him. He moved away from Minneapolis about a year ago. The crowd at the club was definitely an Attrition crowd but I ... read more

Thursday 7th December Paul - Greyhound gets a bad reputation in America and our first bus was over 40 minutes late which is a cracking way to be introduced to it's delights. You have to bear in mind that EVERYONE drives in America so the people left to take the Greyhound must be desperate... A woman who couldn't stop dancing, a group of people who decided to sit at both the back and front of the bus in 15 minute intervals and the smelly guy made up our troop. Our bus made its' rather obvious stop at Burger King halfway through the journey so we could all have some food. If you didn't want Burger King then tough shit because I literally couldn't see another building on the horizon, never mind food place. The driver had ... read more

Instead of heading overseas on Sunday at 2pm as my first travel agent recommended, I opted to attend an all-day leadership retreat this weekend in San Francisco instead. That means that I get to spend some quality time with grandma and a practice trip with the pack. I suppose I'll get used to wearing the travel pack, but I'm not there yet. Will I ever learn to not laugh with it on? Or will I walk around with a bruise on the back of my head from where I lean back and hit the metal pole every time I crack up? Here's a 'route map' of what we know so far. http://www.travelblog.org/gmaps/map_2u1.html Once meeting up in Doha, Qatar, we'll fly to Trivandrum, then stay in Madurai, Periyar, Kochi and Cherthala, then we'll fly up to Delhi, ... read more

I opened my eyes to your everyday 40 year old man. Except that he was crazy and in a bikini thong. I closed my eyes. When I opened them again he was throwing a frisbee to someone across the field. I was in Golden Gate Park, I had fallen asleep on the dewy grass in the warm sunshine. ... read more

Well we've been in San Francisco for 2 days and it's gorgeous. We're right down in Fishermans Wharf which isthe hub of everything and where all the food and drink places sre. Out first main day was yesterday (thursday) and we visited Alcatraz in the morning which was mega. There was some guy there promoting his book who was an ex con there as well. Down on Pier 39 which is the main area there is a place where all the sea lion live. it's open for them to go in to the sea but they seem to like it better there. There are over 100 of them at any one time. We also went shopping to union Square which is the main area in the city centre. It's exactly how I imagine New York would ... read more

Oliver: Well, we finally got away. After a pretty full day at school in Welly we flew into brilliantly sunny SF and spent the next 3 days catching up with old friends, checking out the Exploratorium, (Very cool) and otherwise pottering around the city. Near the Exploratorium is the Palace of Fine arts - a giant testament to the USA's own ego, a great big greek style dome. I cant blame 'em - must be annoying, people going 2 europe to see Greek ruins! ' huh we've got ruins an ours r in perfect condition!!' Martin: Louis was very reluctant to get up in the sunny SF mornings (jet lagged)- managed to entice him with the prospect of a bike ride over to Sausalito - the home of a legendary sweet shop his brother visited two ... read more

In the past three days I've seen alot of the city. I think I walked about ten km today. I have also taken a pile of photos. I'll put some of them here, but the rest are at First thing, some shots from (and of) the Coit tower, just North of the CBD. On Tuesday afternoon I made it up to Haight St, which was the old Hippie capital of the world. Free love became free drugs became addiction and violence, so a few generations on the place is a bit of a mess. There are still alot of great shops up there. Amoeba Music, which must have been there since the 60s also, is enormous. Maybe 3,000m2? I was still ... read more
