We are departing today for "leg 2" of the worldwide tour! We have really loved San Francisco and since our last update we have been to Golden Gate Park, Haight Street, accross the bridge to Sausalito and most importantly... we went on a cable car! (And also a street car - which looks like something from a sci-fi movie!) We are looking forward to moving onwards.... to LA and therefore Venice Beach! Where we can sun ourselves amongst the beautiful "plastic" people and muscle men of the beach by the same name! Can't wait to see the Hollywood sign, Rodeo Drive and the walk of Fame! ...Watch this space Nic and Hol xx PS:Stil haven't worked out how to upload pics - we're working on it!... read more

...continue...
Cable Car.

As we left our cute cottage, plucked an orange from the bush outside and set off to San Francisco. We stopped at the town where they filmed ‘The Birds’ - ooh ere - and then drove across the Golden Gate bridge. With Andy navigating and Kate driving, we took a rollercoaster ride up and down those famous streets and along the “crookedest” street. Whilst here we have taken the tour to Alcatraz, walked around Fisherman’s Wharf with the lazing seals on pier 39, visited union square, city hall and Chinatown, and taken the cable car on it’s steepest run - ding a ling!! Before we left did a great Movie tour - with the famous SF scenes sequenced in time with the route of the bus - now we have so many movies to watch when ... read more

Well I finally began my big journey on March the 1st, with a tearful beginning....thanks Mum, Dad, Matt, Ben and Dayna for coming to the airport to see me off, and thanks to Annie and Jaxon for meeting me at Auckland. I only managed to get about 3 hours sleep on the flight over, but felt great once I jumped off the plane and was greeted by my uncle. I started things off bad by trying to jump into the passenger seat until I realised that everything was back to front over here and I was actually climbing into the drivers seat - Hugh did offer that I could drive if I wanted...haha Yeah Right! It was a bit of an eye opener on the freeway out, merging with all these lanes and trying to keep ... read more

San Fransiscos oppsamlingsgate for RARE mennesker.

As the title suggests San Francisco is full of hills and they are all too bloody steep. The first day we thought that an old fashioned walk around San Fran would be in order. We started by walking from our hostel in Union Square (downtown) out to the famous Golden Gate Bridge. We walked up and down, up and down and then up and down again and we finally got to the bridge. Being on foot our only option to get across the bridge was to walk. So we walked the approximately 1.2kms across to get some great views of San Fran from the other side and then walked back again. We oohhed and aahhed at the bridge for a while as it is a very impressive bridge. After this we wanted some lunch so we ... read more

After a tiring day yesterday and with tired feet today, we started off procedings a little easier today! We rented some bikes and decided to cycle the Golden Gate Bridge. Being cold again today, we wrapped up nice and warm and headed off, past the piers, boats moured in the marina, the many runners, dog walkers and other cyclists... not exactly solitude! As we approached the bridge there were a group of surfers in the water... I know - surfers... they must have been freezing - we're used to 30 degrees c water temperature now, the idea alone made us feel colder! What was funny was once they got out of the water, they stood in washing up buckets at the back of their SUV's and defrosted their feet! After watching the surfers for a while ... read more

Let me start by saying, after spending several months in perminant summer time, arriving in San Francisco was a HUGE shock to the system. We arrived on the evening of 22nd and had to put on every piece of clothing we had! It was 8 degrees but the wind chill made it feel like minus 10! We are now all cosy in hats, gloves and thermals! Today we started with a good hearty breakfast in the trendy North Beach area of the city, near to the place where Joe Di Maggio married Marilyn Monroe called Washington Square. We filled up on a great American Breakfast of bagels, coffee and eggs etc and then headed for a classic Tram ride down towards the Piers. Riding up and down the cities famous steep hills, we came eventually to ... read more
