Dear All... Apologies that we haven't sent you any reading material for a month! The trip has just come to an end for me, and Nicole has been back in Blighty for a week now! Where did the time and the tans go?! What a month! From Melbourne we flew to Cairns and we were greeted by the warm Queensland sun! We took full advantage of the weather and enjoyed some Lagoon time. Cairns was also our gateway to the Great Barrier Reef where we snorkelled our socks off and had our first Scuba dive (I think it was the 1st and the last for poor Nicole). The reef was amazing - so many beautiful fish and sealife. We saw Giant Turtles, NEMO and friends and Parrot fish etc. We also had a boomnetting (hanging ... read more

We loved Melbourne! It seemed to be such a great city from what we saw and it was a great place to arrived into Australia! We explored the city for the first two days and manage to squeeze in a famous Neighbours night in St Kilda within 12 hours of arriving in the country - Good Work! For those of you who aren't in front of the computer tutting at us, we saw Dr Karl Kennedy, Connor, Michelle Scully and Janelle. At the end of the evening Dr K's band played (called 'Waiting Room'!) They are quite good and Dr K loves being on stage singing in an English accent to all the backpackers. As if that wasn't a big enough taste of Neighbours - we also went on a Ramsay St Tour (When in ... read more

Being that we are fast approaching the end of our NZ adventure and the fact that we haven't kept you up-to-date with our South Island adventures! We figured the easiest thing would be to update you on the last few weeks in one blog entry... So here we go... The last few weeks have been manic, it has been non stop and we have been moving along and quite a steady pace!! We left Wellington on Easter Sunday and took the Cross Island Ferry, which takes three hours and crosses the Cooks Straight (basically a good way to travel from the North to the South Island)!! We headed past the Marlborough Sounds (pretty amazing scenery) before arriving in Picton. From there we headed on to Nelson where we spent the rest of our (non existent) ... read more

Wellington seems as if it was an age ago now! Our 3 days in the capital were over the Easter weekend - On arrival we saw the city from the Mount Victoria viewpoint and then we kickstarted our stay here with a night out in Blend bar. Our driver advised us that this is the place to be on a thursday night as the ladies get free bubbly between certain times - excellent! It was a bit of a change to be in a busy bar in a city after the small towns (Even though it wasn't that long ago that we were in Auckland) We are also proud to say that we had our first Jagerbombs and loved them! Now, for those of you who don't know what we're talking about - a shot ... read more

Yesterday was a very strange day... I decided to launch myself out of a perfectly healthy aircraft. For some reason I really wanted to Skydive and I was told that it's a much better freefall from 15000 ft. So off I went, attached to Benny the Tandom-master who has done 5000 jumps out of a plane so I felt quite sure about putting my life in his hands! I thought the jumping process would be a lot slower eg-they would ask you if you were still happy to jump etc. But no! We shuffled to the door and then out we popped ... over the Lake. Once I stopped screaming I was able to take in the views - beautiful mountains and landscape in the sunshine. Meanwhile Benny and Joel the camera man were doing ... read more

Apologies for our lack of blogs over the past week or so - we thought you deserved a rest! Hope you all had a good Easter, we were thinking of you and roast dinners! Rotorua was rather stinky due to the amount of thermal activity there. Lots of geysers, steam vents and bubbling mud pools. On our first night there we went to a Maori night in a recreated Maori village where they demonstrated their skills, dancing..... and the food cooked in the underground oven. Along with many other backpackers we took full advantage of the hangi (feast!) and had a good old feed! We also had our first experience of Luging - great fun. Luges are like a 3 wheeled go cart with handlebars! we did this on the mountain which overlooks Lake Rotorua, ... read more

Well as our final night in Auckland draws to a close, I think I speak for both us when I say we have had an amazing time in Auckland!!! We have been here for about 5days now and have managed to cram so many things into those few days!!! Unfortunately when we arrived the rain from Fiji seemed to follow us, which wasn't great but thankfully there are plenty more things to do in Auckland when it rains and after Fiji we weren't really complaining! Wednesday was the first official day when we did the whole sight seeing thing... Luckily for us one of the tour operators offers free trips around Auckland... So we hopped on board and ended up going and doing the bridge walk (I was bad enough walking underneath that, not sure what ... read more

Yes, that's right - we're off again after spending only two days in Fiji - or rather our resort (due to the torrential rain and flooded roads) we have decided that our time will be better spent in New Zealand. We have changed our flights and we leave in the morning. We would have liked to have stayed to see more of the mainland and the islands but there hasn't been a long enough dry spell to allow us to do so. The weather forecasts haven't been overly optimistic as it is meant to be pretty much the same until our origingal leaving date. However: - We are very excited to be going to NZ - We have had Fiji bitter lager (Good stuff) - And we have also had Fijian facials (to pass the ... read more

Took us a few days to adjust to Island Life after LA... But we have adapted to the island lifestyle, just about!!! We have done... A visit to the Cultural Village, the island market, the local church to hear the singing and have managed to get up early enough to see the Sunrise!! On Monday we flew to Aitutaki, one of the smaller islands, which made Raro seem quite cosmopolitan in comparison. It is only 15km around the island and only has 1700 people who live on the island!! We had a day exploring the island on scooters, which was great fun. Although Holly Hat had a slight mishap and thought she would make her mark by falling off her scooter! Not entirely sure how she managed it and looking back we can laugh about ... read more
