We only thought up the idea of monthly blog hunts in Feburary. Feel free to make January 2011 Treasure Hunt thread, if you have something you want to put in it. 😊 Reply to this

I just checked the blog archives and there is definitely a January 2011 blog treasure hunt on page 5 of the blog forum! I noticed it had been left out for slightly selfish reasons actually - one of my blogs was mentioned in it!

...there is definitely a January 2011 blog treasure hunt...

Oh, so there is! I added it to the list on the opening post now. I somehow remember us starting this in Feb of this year, but looks like we did it sooner. Thanks for finding that, Ed. 😊 Reply to this

Now if I remember last year we had three categories.

Photography, Adventure & Writing.

Here is a few I particularly liked, I'm sure I'll add a few more when my head is not spinning from the paint fumes in my house at the moment (I hate decorating lol).

Dave & Merry Jo's Brillant Balloons Above Reno for North America photography & writing.

Lily's Some Photographs From Manila for Asia photography, showing that there ARE nice things to take pictures of in the Philippines ;-)

PA's ‘Diving the great divide’Diving the Great Divide for Europe adventure, such an awesome dive site I had no idea even existed until this blog and PA’s ‘Tiffany, welcome to you new home’ Tiffany, welcome to your new home...Bangkok!!! for Asia writing. (I’ve tried to paste the code for these blogs into this post but they both have the same code for some reason?).

International backpackers Gorillas dont know the rules! for best photography & writing for Africa, loved this blog so much, possibly my favourite blog of the year.

Cabochick’s The Land of Loonies for best photography for North America, I know I’ve already made ne nomination for best photography for that category but both are excellent.

Threefitty’s To NZ and then off...! for best photography for Oceania and 94,553km traveled, 181days, 20 flights, 7 countries for best writing and photography, this and International backpackers blog are neck and neck for my favourite of the year.

As I’ve already said I’m sure I will think of a few more later.

Have edited the blogs to (hopefully) have the correct links now.

Thanks for including me guys! Now, I'm not just saying this cause she said this about me.....but.....cabochick keeps me laughing days after I read her blogs. And should could potentially be my new bff.

I also get a kick out of Ross Parker. I think his off the cuff style and honest humor are great!

I've also discovered the amazing photography of Chris and Amy this year and they're truly an inspiration. Reply to this

Where do I start?

There are so many great bloggers on TB, but I think I will have to whittle them down to my Top 10 favourites in no particular order.

1. Top honours have to go to Dancing Dave who never ceases to amaze me with his simply sublime photography and his wonderful narrative. I always find myself waiting in anticipation for his next blog.

2. The person who makes me giggle most of all is cabochick. If I'm ever feeling a little down or peeved after a day teaching kids then her blogs are just the tonic I need!

3. For compiling what I can only term as the 'Mother of all Blogs' I have to nominate Home and Away who have covered almost every trip from their youth up to the present day.

4. Top marks for TravelBlog's nicest and friendliest couple has to go to D MJ Binkley who write charming blogs and are always great to chat with on the forums.

5. Ultimate respect goes to liliram who is an inspiration to me and has made me realise that life most definitely doesn't end upon reaching 40.

6. I really enjoy the honestly written blogs of QuartermainesWorld who despite being public enemy No 1 in the Philippines, is not afraid to speak his mind and say exactly how he feels. That is something I deeply respect, especially in this day and age.

7. Vietna mum is another of my favourites who has more or less committed her life to helping the less fortunate here in Vietnam.

8. Yet another favourite is Donna and Neil whose obsession with poo, I find fascinating. I do hope they will start blogging again soon.

9 and 10. Last but not least I really enjoy the underwater adventures of Ali and Maisondubonheur both of whose marine photography is simply awe inspiring and gives me a glimpse of what is going on under the ocean waves, not being able to swim or dive myself. Reply to this

I'd also like to add my favourite photographers while I'm at it.

Dancing Dave for his wonderful pics of Ethiopia.

cabochick for her amazing landscape shots.

Ali and Maisondubonheur for their fantastic underwater pictures.

TBRich, deleted_116683 and MichaelnFaye for their superb coverage of Asia.

taracloud whose snowy, landscape shots simply leave you breathless.

nickkembel for his photographic portrayal of Taiwan and Canada.

FreeSpirit for his stunning coverage of those places others dare not go.

And last but not least, for perfectly capturing the country closest to my heart, Vietnam, this list wouldn't be complete without adding Chris and Amy.

This was the year that I finally figured out that TravelBlog is a community. Until now I used it to communicate with friends and family while I traveled, but that was it. A huge thank you to Dave and Merry Jo Binkley for reaching out and welcoming me into the community. What wonderful people as well as great story tellers.
D MJ Binkley

Cabochick has such a way of telling her stories with humor and painting visual pictures that make them real. Her recent blog, The Pearl of Siberia is my favorite of the year.
cabochick

Zofka wrote a blog called Detroit, the Motor City that I very much enjoyed. I am going through her other postings and am liking them just as much.
zofka

True, I am leaving out so very many blogs and stories, but this is what I can think of right now.
