I have made the experience with TB that many cities are shown on a wrong location on the map. In Germany many with special characters ä, ö, ü but also many others around the world. Would there be a free open-source add-on which oyu could use to correct that. But in that case I am not sure, what happens to existing data.

Reply to this Hi Thomas. Was this ever resolved? Umlauts and other special characters always seem to cause problems.
Reply to this No it has not been resolved. And it is not only for German cities.
For example my trip to Dubai in UAE shows up in Iraq.

We have a special thread "location creation requests" and if the admins would open something like "location correction requests" people could report these errors, but it would require manual work to correct them.
I don't know if there is something like open source software to check the coordinates automatically.

Reply to this Hi Thomas. I have heard back from Alex (our Location moderator). He is in the middle of a trip at the moment but will contact you when he returns. As we have thousands of locations in our database it would be a major task to go through them all to verify them. I suggest that, when you find one that is not correct, you post it in the forum "Location Creation Requests" indicating the current location is incorrect or misspelled and he will modify it.

I posted a first bunch of 11 wrong locations in the US and Arabia there. I think I did the same a few years ago but they were ignored.
Oncy they correct these, I will go over to Central European ones with Umlaut.
As I said earlier, I believe that manual correction is quite a lot of work so I was wondering if they use some sort of free software.

As John and Sylvia mentioned, I am now back from travels and have made the changes you requested. As they also mention, there are quite possibly thousands of locations which have wrong map locations or are not spelt correctly according to the local language.
To make any changes manageable, please do just post requests on the "Location Creation Requests" forum that you have visited.
I don't know of any software that can do this, but I'm happy to make changes manually if there are not too many requested at a time!

Thanks a lot. I will check the result in a few days. All cities reported and maybe reported in future are from my blog, as I only see the location in my map for them.
About the software: One example would be simplemaps - link not allowed. They offer 43.000 cities in the world for free or nearly 2 million for 199 Euro onetime fee.
