South America » Argentina » Misiones » Iguazú National Park September 18th 2003

Puerto Iguazú forms a natural balcony that looks to Brazil over the inferior Iguazu and the Paraguay rivers through the Alto Paraná. From the city you can take different excursions and visits to the Iguazú National Park and the Iguazu Falls which are considered being one of the Seven Wonders of the World due to their natural magnificence and their wonderful vegetation, astounding those who have the possibility of getting in contact with them. There is nothing to be compared with Cataratas del Iguazú (Iguazú Falls) because they are incredible. They have 250 spectacular falls that weigh 70 meters and they are connected to the Iguazú River which originates 1300 meters above the sea level and flows into the Paraná River only to 90 meters. My advice is to explore the place by you. We took ... read more

An amazing location set in the Andes Mountains and an amazing site. I won't write about the sight as there are many books written about Machu Pichu or even documentaries, who can do a much better job than I could at detailing the advanced techniques they must have used to build this city. I visited the site as part of a tour along the Inca trail and was also given a tour of the ruins. I was there during my 2 year trip around South America, for more details of my time in Peru follow the link below. http://www.travelblog.org/South-America/Peru/blog-497136.html... read more

South America » Bolivia » Potosí Department » Salar de Uyuni September 4th 2003

After staying a week in groovy backpackers gathering spot San Pedro de Atacama we decided to do a tour to Bolivia. We chose Turismo Colque as they promised us that we could get a ride to Potosi. I wanted to do more than just a usual trip to lagoons and Salar de Uyuni. Early in the morning we said goodbye to Chano and squeezed into a van full of Japanese, Englishmen, Germans and even a couple from Poland. Hearing all those stories about beautiful landscape, a very severe frost and altitude sickness, we couldn’t wait to get on a 4WD at the Bolivian border... And we could wait to get back to San Pedro too!!!! it's true what they say about Bolivia, everything it's true. And Boliva is a dream, a perfect dream, but it could ... read more

Nous ... read more

San Pedro de Atacama (San Pedro for short) is a small village located in one of the many oases which are founded in the altiplano of the second region of Chile. Along this geographic zone rise some of the highest volcanoes of the Los Andes cordillera. Formerly the center of the Atacama culture, nowadays this small town has a big importance and it is considered as the archeological capital of Chile. But it is important also because of its extreme geographic position, the beauty of the landscape and its eternal blue sky. Due to the amazing landscape of this zone, San Pedro has turned into the start point of the touristic activity and the excursions around the region. Here you can find a big variety of services for the visitors such as lodging, restaurants, tourist ... read more

South America » Argentina » Salta August 18th 2003

Salta is the capital city of the Argentine province of Salta, located on the Valle de Lerma 1152 meters above sea level. Nicknamed in Spanish as Salta la Linda ("Salta the Beauty"), it is visited by a great many tourists because of its colonial architecture, a number of museums, but also because it's the starting point of the "Train to the Clouds" (Tren a las nubes) and to red-soiled Cafayate, as well as to other nearby tourist destinations. Throughout the province, trekking and rafting, climbing and bungee jumping are also practiced. From Salta we made trips to Valle de la luna and Tren a las nubes. To the West of Salta, the Puna's arid high plain with salty lakes (Arizaro, Pocitos) has few inhabitants, and its main city is San Antonio de los Cobres. High snowy ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Buenos Aires August 10th 2003

Buenos Aires ("Good Airs" in Spanish, originally meaning "Fair Winds") is the capital of Argentina and its largest city and port, as well as one of the largest cities in Latin America. The people of Buenos Aires are known as porteños ("people of the port"), acknowledging the major historical importance of the port in the development of the city and the whole nation. Buenos Aires is, in a certain way, a metaphor for Argentina. Its streets and surroundings gather over half of the country's population and represent its political, economic and cultural heart. It was home for Argentine writers Jorge Luis Borges, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Ernesto Sábato and Victoria Ocampo. And Maria Eva Duarte (Evita Peron), Carlos Gardel (a synonym of tango ), latin American revolutionary and political leader Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, not to ... read more
