I was assigned by the company I work for to an audit in Colombia and Ecuador for 2 weeks, and the work was going to end a day before my 30th anniversary. I didn´t know if I was going to go back home to celebrate it with my friends and family, since I didn´t wanted to spend that day alone, so I thought... if I am going to be away from home on my birthday, I need to do something amazing, and that was the moment when Galapagos Islands came to my mind. I had one the the most incredible experiences of my life during that trip.... read more

Well I ended up staying in Bariloche for a few days because it was so nice there, and me and Mike saw a bit more of Romy too which was cool. She was so helpful, she showed us all the good places to get stuff we needed, took us out to cool bars for drinks and to watch football, and the day I left she came around to hostel and took me and Mike back to here sisters place for "Mate"(a form of tea they drink here, I will elaborate later) and heaps of "factures"(the most delicous bakery product ever) and then dropped me off just out of town so I got a good start for hitch-hiking. And a good start I got, after waiting for about 20mins an old guy picked me up and took me about halfway ... read more

Well after getting back from waving Silvia and Dany off at the airport on thursday afternoon, Romy the girl with the van, was ready to leave right away so me and Mike quickly packed up all our stuff, said our goodbyes to everyone at the hostel and got on the road. It was sad to drive away from Ushuaia, I'd had such a great time there with all those great people, but I couldn't really pass up an opportunity like this. Romy turned out to be real cool too, and she didn't speak english either so it was fun practicing my feeble spanish with her. We drove pretty much non-stop for 30hrs and had no trouble apart from the having to stop for a couple of hours in a pokey little town to get the air-conditioning ... read more

I've jst had a fabulous week down in Ushuaia. Had the best crew staying at the hostel I was at and we had an absolute blast every day. Mostly we just ate great food, there were a couple of girls there from Barcelona, Dany and Silvia who were amazing cooks staying with us, so every night they cooked us up some amazing dish that we'd never heard of before, then we'd stay up to all hours drinking red wine, dancing salsa and trying to teach me spanish, it was awesome. The other two main guys from our group were Micheal and Shawn from America, top blokes, and both of them pretty much spoke fluent spanish so with all they're powers combined I learn't a lot of new stuff. I'm getting there slowly but I definately need ... read more

Well for the last few days I've been up in a little town called El Chalten with a German guy and a couple of Australian girls I met while back in the Torres Del Paine National park over in Chile. They were so cool, we camped for two night and hiked about 4 or 5 hours for the three days we were there. Me and Mike were in charge of putting up the tents and fighting of the mice, while the girls cooked us up mean feeds and pointed at mice for us to throw stuff at. It worked well. The trip up there from El Calafaté was a drag, 5hrs on a less then adequate bus on dodgey gravel roads. Most of the buses here are pretty worn out and your lucky if it doesn't ... read more

I'm staying in El Calafate at the moment, just lazing about and enjoying the nice weather. I'm staying in the best hostel I've stayed at so far. It's called America Del Sur, and it's run by a bunch of mid-20Yr old ex-pat Buenos Aires people who are so crazy and fun. And they're always chillin in the lounge with all the travellers with some sort of reggae music playing, and they've got under floor heating everywhere you go so the whole place has got just the best atmosphere.    Today I went to the Perito Moreno Glacier which was absolutely amazing! it's massive! It's about 5km's wide, and all up about as big as the Buenos Aires city. It's creaking and groaning all the time cos it moves forward at about two meters a day, and at one ... read more

I just got back from a four day trek in the Torres del Paine national park which is on the Chilean side of Patagonia and man am I wasted! The weather wasn´t the best but the park was amazing. It´s just coming out of autumn and into winter at the moment so the leaves on all the trees are golds and oranges and yellows which looks awesome, especially with a bit of snow dotted around the place aswell. One morning me and an Israeli guy got up at like 6 in the morning to go and watch the sun rise over the Torres, but over night it had started snowing heaps and by the time we were about half way to the viewing place, we were walking in knee-deep snow and we couldn´t see the track anymore so ... read more

Ok, random trivia. The Galapagos Islands are officially named the Archipelago de Colon; they are part of Ecuador and sit 960km off the Ecuadorian coast. They are also about 90% national park. The only way to walk on the islands is with a Park Naturalist/guide. These islands were the inspiration for Darwin’s Origin of Species. The islands are famed for their vast array of wildlife, much of it endemic. (Pick word I learned). The islands are most famous for the Giant Tortoises that are found there, but I think the birds provided a more spectacular show. But I get ahead of myself. I still had to get there and that was an adventure in and of itself. I was currently some 900 nautical miles away in Panama. (One nautical mile is about 1.15 statute miles … ... read more

Hola Amigos. How are you all doing? As I have mentioned I am working at a private school now. I work as a teachers aid in the English classrooms. I teach all ages from pre-kinder to 12th grade. Its actually a lot of fun. The smaller kids swarm me whenever I walk anywhere. I am hoping this will wear off soon, but its kind of fun. I had one kid in grade 4 asked me if I liked Beaver- when I replied yes, he got all excited and high fived all of his friends. Obviously he knew the second meaning! In another class I had to teach "iny meanie, miney moe, catch a tiger by the toe..." I have no idea why but the kids were thrilled. The teacher only knew the rhyme in Spanish. Its ... read more
