Hello! We thought that we´d start a blog so people didn´t have to read our emails if they didn´t want. Plus, it´s nice to look back at as I found with my China trip. We´ve been here three days and are on our third hostel! We decided the first one was too expensive, and the second one was a crazy party hostel. It felt like Spring Break Cusco, with all sorts of drinking and loudness. So, the third one is nice and cheap, about 13 bucks a night, and has a beautiful view of the city and the mountains. We have explored a few of the art museums, there is a lot of nudity! Haha. We have had great food, ate alpaca yesterday and it was pretty good. I´m not sure if it was the ... read more

29.12.08 Cusco, Peru: It has been another week since our last entry. We caught a bus from La Paz to Puño, via Copacabana and a brief boat ride across Lake Titicaca. Puño is a cute little town, situted on Lake Titicaca. Here we bought up some supplies for our home stay, and wandered around the city. We bought a cake for Cara´s birthday, and had an early celebration over a nice dinner. On Cara´s birthday we caught an early morning boat to Isla Taquile. We walked around the island, and had a great lunch at a very authentic local ´restaurant´. After lunch we boarded the boat and headed to a remote area on Lake Titicaca, where we stayed with a local family and their 7 children. We received a warm welcome, with a marching band escorting ... read more

Hello all, Here is our first email slash blog entry. Our hostel is nice and has lots of sun and hot water- but we´ll probably downgrade the rest of the nights to save money. Maybe not Tyler says now haha. The altitude is a little crummy for puny old me, but not as bad as when I was in Tibet, perhaps because I haven´t eaten any yak. Cusco is beautiful! There are gorgeous gardens and bright colors everywhere. The biggest surprise so far as been the random dogs that are everywhere, we see two or three every five minutes. Apparently they´re communal pets.. or something. I tried to order something in spanish with no luck, and really wish I would have had time to learn it. Tyler is not as upset about not being able ... read more

Cusco, again Just to catch up from our last entry: From Iquitos we flew to Lima (on the way we hit an air pocket which was no joke), spent 3 days there and then bussed to Cusco. Since we have been in Cusco in August last year at the beginning of our trip, this is a very short entry detailing our activities over the Christmas period. We arrived absolutely exhausted in Cusco after a 22 hour bus drive from Lima (Darran left a day before us). We met up with Linsey, Darran and the two Irish, Aoibheaan and Simon, at Casa de la Gringa, our home for the next two weeks. Cusco was in a frenzy with loads of tourists, cars, rain and dog poo on the streets. It was crazy to say the least and ... read more

22nd December, Cusco We woke up starving. We headed out for a really nice breakfast in a cozy little restaurant. Jake tried alpaca with chips at 8am! After that we headed to the laundrette where i had the embarrasing task of counting through my grubby smalls with the guy behing the counter who was wearing a mask and thick rubber gloves. We went back to the awful hostel, which looked lop-sided, and tried to get a better room. Thankfull there was a private room with a bathroom included available. Next task was to head to the tour agency we had organised macchu pichu with to do some serious complaining with bicky who was starting to piss me off. Jakes good debating skills got us $70 back from bickys first offer of $35. Satisfied. we made our ... read more

18th December, Cuzco After my Florence Nightingale act, Jake was right as rain. I was so excited as we had booked my first ever horse ride for the day. We got a taxi to the stables, where a couple of battered old dirty horses greeted us. I was given a white, scrawny, pony looking thing called Trey. Jakes was more of a donkey! I struggled to clamber up on his back whilst Jake nearly crippled his with his weight. Its back legs looked like they were going to give way a few times, with me giggling all the way behind! Jake´s horse kept poohing and stopping to eat trees. My ´donkey´seemed to be in no hurry and tip-toed along behind. We saw some Inca Runis but after 2 hours the guide cut our horse ride short, ... read more

17th December, Cuzco We both woke up feeling sick, I think the so caled filtered water from the hostel the previous night was probably the cause. We got to the airport with Jake getting worse. If he hadn´t been ill I wouldnt have let him away with his comment about my ´wet hair´when it was actually just greasy! I didnt get a shower that morning as the shower head was missing (there seemed to be one to share between all the rooms!), and didnt fancy washing myself under dripping cold water. We were flying with StarPeru that morning to Cuzco. The plane was tiny! The views over the Andes mountain range were stunning though, but the food was crap as always so I gave it to Jake. We landed at Cuzco airport, I took a picture ... read more

Hey, Okay, I´m gonna keep this very brief as it´s mostly about the photos. Fighting fit, we explored Cusco, it´s beautiful, colonial and very very tourist friendly. We went around every museum possible, most of which were rather sparse and disappointing. We also walked miles and miles to local Inca ruins that were pretty cool and the exercise was good. On the streets in town, the restaurants and bars try to drag you in, there are people trying to sell all kinds of tourist tat, flyers for massages and tours and even plenty of people trying to sell you marijuana. You start off saying no a lot, but soon just start ignoring everyone, it´s much easier. Luckily we didn´t say no to one guy with a flyer and it turned out he was advertising an English ... read more

SOOOO I went to Cusco. Like I said pretty chill other than getting sick the first day. I had 3 days to kill so I decided to be a tourist haha. My first day there I wandered the city...took pictures of the cathedral...I don't remember if I put those up or not??? Then in the evening I hung out at the bar in the hostel and just chilled and took it easy as I was still acclimating to the air. My second day I decided to go rafting for the first time in my life :-) It was very fun!!! They were only like level 3+ rapids so nothing huge but still lots of fun. Our guides name was David and I was in a boat with 4 other people from New York. After the rapids ... read more
