It was one of the most wonderful trips I have taken so far, the most difficult hike, part of it because I was not in a very good shape. But otherwise also a very fun trip. If I get a chance, I would definately do this again, but its a short life and that is not going to happen. But I am not going to write a lot here. I wrote my diary while on the trip, something new I tried. And memories are fading now, names are slipping. So here are some anecdotes. The hostel where we stayed in Cusco : Samay Wasi http://www.samaywasiperu.com/ I picked this hotel because the name was very Indian, time resident or something like that. The hostel was ok, no complains, nothing special also. Though the bed was really small, ... read more

And it wasn´t a pretty sight... But luckily in Peru you don´t need a prescription for Cipro, or anything else for that matter. And my host dad set me right up with it. I´m not going to lie, it was bad, really bad... And the water was shut off, so that wasn´t a pretty sight in el baño either. I eat off the vendors in the street all the time, no problem. The one time I go to the ¨safe¨ tourist restaurant, they try to kill me!!! However, I almost made it to the end of my trip without getting sick, which is very good, I think. Don´t be envious, but I´ve sampled all sorts of different Gatorade flavors like maracuya, mango, mandarina, etc. And Campbell´s, forget that, I have homemade chicken broth! But let me ... read more

So today I wake up and it´s cloudy out. The Peruaños are in a flutter because it´s July and in July it´s winter and it´s not cloudy. It´s not allowed to be cloudy, I mean come on, this is July after all. And then, all you know what breaks loose... It starts to rain... This starts a whole other process. People are staring at the sky in shock, like something bad is about to descend. And everyone is saying, this can´t be, this is July. It doesn´t rain in July. It just doesn´t rain in July. And they´re slinking along next to the buildings trying to not get rained on, because you know why, this is July and it doesn´t rain in July so the raincoats and umbrellas aren´t out yet. I mean, I bet if ... read more

Today was the best day ever. My friend Katie has a really awesome host family. Very loving, warm, etc. They invited me over today. So this morning I got up and took a freezing cold shower because it is a special occasion to be invited to someone´s home. I spend most of my days in a greasy fog because I´m too cold to shower. And I got to take my first bus ride in Peru. A different setup, but awesome. I´m glad Katie met me in town because no way could I have figured it out myself! All the stop names run together and when the guy who hangs out the window to yell to see if people want the bus says your stop you say ¨abajo¨. But he sounds like an auctioneer. So we get ... read more

Nothing like a little strike to round out the week in Peru. For the last few days we´ve had little strikes. No cabs/ticos/combis in the morning. They´ll work again for an hour at lunch, but nothing else. This is important because no one really has a car, so public transportation is far more common. I for one like the bus route called Blanco Jesus, Spiderman, Batman, and my friend Katie takes Sr. Rapido. The buses aren´t numbered, they are given names instead. So today was the big nationwide strike. I live right off the main plaza and my school is on the main road. The airport is a little far from downtown... Anyway. I leave for school this morning and the police are out in their riot gear (which we´ve seen frequently as of late) and ... read more

o yesterday I climbed up Pisac, 5km straight up with this girl from my school. It took a long time and was steep and Über scary. I don´t really like heights and ledges with really far drops, but that´s cool, I made it. There are a bunch of ruins from the Incas. The irrigation system still works and was unbelievable. Incas were way head of the Romans. Overall amazing, I think. But first, let me tell you about the trip itself. We head over to the bus station Sunday morning. Um, lets just call it authentic. We get in line with the others who have their stuff to sell at the market in Pisac. We get our ticket and hop on the bus. We then notice the bus is full. And yet, people keep streaming in ... read more

that crows every morning at 6am to alert me to the day. I love it! Every lunch the grandma has fresh squeezed juice of some sort. Or, Cecelia, some girl that must work in the house washing our clothes (without a machine and washing our dishes in the outside sink) must make the juice. So good! Yesterday was passionfruit, today was starfruit. I also eat a lot of this fruit that is named chichichi or something like that. Very very good. In the morning we just drink tea or like powdered chocolate milk or something. And the girlfriend of the dad is a baker and is making some damn good desserts. But no alfajores yet. You know I´´m bummed about that. Let me think of other interesting things. I don´t shower much because it´s too cold... ... read more
