Day 1 (Friday) - Got into Cusco around 8:30pm. I stayed at the Hospedaje Recoletta. It was a very nice, clean place. Getting there, I couldn't decide which was more pressing: hunger or exhaustion. I decided to go to a convenience store across the street and purchased some chips to tame my hunger so I could go to sleep quickly. The plan worked well. I fell asleep quickly after finishing the chips and got a good night sleep. Day 2 (Saturday) - Upon waking, I was anxious to get cleaned up. I shaved for the first time in nearly a week, which felt amazing. Then I went downstairs for a free breakfast, consisting of bread and pineapple. I also, had some of the tea, which unbeknownst to me was made of coca leaves. For those of ... read more

First of all, before my mother goes off to phone the British Embassy, it wasn´t really a kidnap. It´s just an over the top headline to grab your attention and make you keep reading. And it worked didn´t it? Good. Let's continue. The night bus from Arequipa to Cusco was apparently really noisy and uncomfortable. I'm having to go on what Beth said to tell you that, as I slept throughout the entire journey. When I awoke at around 6am, we were just pulling into the old Inca capital city of Cusco. Our rooms weren´t quite ready upon our arrival at the hostel, so the morning was mainly spent watching films and playing pool. It turned out Mike and Ellie from Huaccachina were still here, so it was nice to catch up with them again. They ... read more

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!! We just uploaded the photos from everywhere that we´ve been so far in Peru so that we can finally catch up to where we are now. We also started to write an entry that covers everything that we´ve done so far in Peru, but it got to be a bit lengthy and the internet at our hostel (in Cuzco) is going to turn off in 10 minutes so we´ll finish that and publish it in the next few days. So here is the last few weeks in photos! We promise to actually write about all of these soon so if you want to know more about the pictures you can. The quick headlines for now are that we are in Cuzco, saw Machu Piccu, Anna at a guinea pig, Sam at an Alpaca heart ... read more

Well, I´ve been in Cusco (think The Emperor´s New Groove or Inca Capital or oldest countinusouly inhabited city in South America or city shaped like a puma) for over three weeks and it´s high time I sent out an update! I have been doing lots of activities, thinking about many issues and generally experiencing countless new things, so be warned this is likely going to be long, but hopefully interesting. I´ve decided to include a summary at the END (so as not to spoil anything) so if you want the one minute read instead of ten minute read, scroll down. Volunteering: Why don´t I start with the actual reason I am here? I am in Cusco for six weeks (so just under three more) to volunteer in the Ancahuasi Puesto de Salud, which in English terms ... read more

I made it to Cucsco, having my best bus ride yet. There was no one next to me and I met several nice travelers staying at my same hostel. The border crossing was quite an experience though. There were very few guards and it is a known drug trafficing border entrance. All the tourists hung out in the Peruvian immigration office until the bus finally made it across (over an hour). The border is known for pickpocketing and bag slashing. One of the common techniques is distracting the tourist by asking him to take a picture with him. Then they escort you onto a crowded street where you are an easy target. I resisted and came out fine. Get back with more from the Loki Hostal in Cusco. Adios... read more

Dag 161. Vi ... read more
