4 MARCH 2002 I left Melbourne for my first job for Classic Studios this year. The time was around 7am and for the next four hours I drove down the Geelong Highway onto the Princes Highway and west towards Warrnambool. Just over 300 Klm later I pulled up outside the Best Western Motor Inn. This is one of three such motels in town. Unfortunately I chose the one that was having trouble with their phones. There was still plenty of daylight left so I drove into the main street and took a walk. Thirty-five minutes later I was back in the car having noted there was nothing new to see in the main street. I had been to this town before. 5 MARCH 2002 The alarm went off at 7am and that woke me from a ... read more

16 May 2003 Bored with morning TV I left my motel early and arrived in Mathoura an hour before I was due to start work. Parked the car outside the centre and took a walk down to the local creek. A very sorry sight greeted me as I looked down the bank to an almost dry watercourse. It appeared that some of the water had been pumped out for the town's inhabitants, another sign of the continuing drought. The morning session went well, even though the threat of rain gave the outside activity shots some urgency. I finished around mid-day and left town for Melbourne.... read more

12-15 May 2003 Deniliquin is a nice enough town, but I'm afraid its one of the those places I have worked in before and have seen most of the interesting places on the previous visit. In the afternoons after work I find myself wondering the main street aimlessly. Most country towns the size of Deniliquin have public library's and I often spend a couple of hours on the internet, sending emails to my girlfriend and two children in Melbourne. Then its back to the motel to watch TV and wait for room service to deliver my evening meal. The last three days have been busy and tomorrow I will be working in Mathoura, which is only thirty kilometres south of town. This motel will be home for one more night. ... read more

Leaving Airlie beach (the town that has no beach) in the morning on our vessel (the matador) the biggest racing yacht in the world!. We were lead into the Whitsunday islands off the coast of queensland by a pod of Dolphins at the front of the boat, amazed to see them everytime. We anchored at many points around the island but Whitehaven!! WOW unreal, probably the most idilic scenery i have ever come across, we alighted the yacht and explored the island finally settling on Whitehaven beach. Something to rival Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island, the most brilliant grainy white sand with fringing light transparent turquoise ocean, so clear and fresh looking i wanted to drink it. This is truely unreal beauty. I feel so lucky to have been here. Nature at its best, as we ... read more

11 May 2003 Following my usual route through Yarra Glen, Yea and Seymour, I was heading towards Bendigo then further north to Swan Hill. Eventually arriving in Balranald about forty kilometres over the border in New South Wales. A Flag Motel this time which isn't too bad. It was three o'clock in the afternoon and plenty of daylight left, so decided to take the road north out of town to photograph the sunset. Forty kilometres along the Ivanhoe Road I still hadn't seen any of the lakes that were marked on the map. Ivanhoe was two hundred kilometres further on and there was no point continuing. The sunset wasn't much but I did use it as a backdrop for some video I shot of the car driving along the road that splits the flat landscape. I ... read more

I have found my paradise. This is what i imagined travelling to be like whilst day dreaming at work in rainy grey London. The feeling of being here is overwhelming, i have had to scream on numerous occasions to vent my growing excitment whilst driving our group of 8 in the 4x4, something that caused the immediate wetting of pants of my passengers. Camping out on the beach setting up the tent over a beer and watching the amazing sunsets that lit up the whole sky in a blood red colour with friends was pretty special. After the sunset, we all sat drinking VB on a sand dune admiring the red sky when after about 1 hour there was a spectacular and unexpected moon rise!!! we were totally unprepared for this and i did'nt know they ... read more

4 May 2003 It was around mid-day when I left Melbourne and headed off to Albury. The journey up to the border town was pleasant, taking four hours to complete. The weather was fine and the countryside was a little greener after recent rains. As I crossed the bridge at Bonnie Doon it was evident that the drought had not broken, as there was no water to be seen in Lake Eldon. I had booked into the Australian Park Motor Inn and unpacked my gear into room four. There was no room service on Sunday nights and I couldn’t be bothered finding a pub to buy a counter meal, so just got take-away. Watched TV for most of the evening, I’m happy to report this motel has cable TV, which includes Discovery and Movie Channels. 5 ... read more

Roughly 100km west inland of Brisbane. We basically decided to have a 2 to 3 weeks stop in order to rest, detox and replenish our bank accounts. We intended to stay here long enough for both of us to save around $1,500 each. We calculated that would equate to around 3 weeks work if we limited our expenses. WE QUIT AFTER 3 DAYS. Christ almighty, what a crap load of work. We basically had to crawl on our hands and knees in the middle of a damp field all day picking bloody tomatoes whilst struggling to keep up with the tracktors conveyor belt moving up the field at an irritating pace. I wanted to quit after 2 hours but Kev kept up the motivation with positive talk whilst i balanced it out with copious amounts of ... read more

Arriving in the centre around 8.30am I set up a single studio light and a small backdrop. During the session I take a number of shots of the children doing inside and outdoor activities. Our brief also includes portraits and a group photo. Each centre has between ten and forty children. Which makes for a lot of photos being taken in the three hours we have to finish the session.... read more

Ater 2 weeks of constant drinking and partying in Surfers we decided to come here to find work & de-tox. Our first night of de-tox consisted of 2 boxes (8 litres) of Stanley Wine on the roof of our hostel (Palace right in the middle of the city). Playing ring of fire. So much for not drinking. We found jobs beginning next week, about 200km inland in a farming town called Laidley, we will be embarking upon the profession of fruit picking!! tomatoes to be exact, so it was decided we will carry on getting p*ssed until then it was unanimous. yay!!. Brisbane is a small city. Good nightlife, sod all to do in the day. I much prefer Sydney. ... read more
