I would'nt say i was dissapointed in cairns, i felt a little under the weather because we knew that our East coast tour is ending here and that everybody we have met long the way are going their seperate ways - Darwin, Thailand, USA, UK.... plus coming from the Whitsundays and Fraser island, cairns is really not that pretty, especially as the sea front is nothing more than a mud bath. Nevertheless we decided it would be best to purchase one of those vintage 5 litre Stanley wine boxes drink it and go sample the nightlife. Cairns nightlife! wow. its maddness abit like an 18-30's holiday in Tenerife. As all the Oz Experience buses either start or end here, the town is brimming with excited backpackers. There is a great atmosphere here and the hostels are ... read more

28-30 May 2003 Wednesday I was working in Stratford. It only took fifteen minutes to arrive at the outskirts of town and had plenty of time to take a short drive along the River Avon. The mist was rising from the river and I took the last couple of shots left on the roll of film. It was only last year I worked in the Stratford Kindergarten and again it was a good centre to spend time in. For the last two days of this week the Day Care Centre situated in the Sale Airforce Base was the location of my jobs, both days were busy, but still managed to be packed up and gone by mid-day.... read more

27 May 2003 After driving four hours yesterday I arrived in Sale, which is in Southeast Victoria. The trip down was done in fine weather and the motel I'll be staying in, until Friday is good. My first day's job was thirty kilometres to the west; a small town called Rosedale. It was a foggy morning trip but I still managed to arrive in plenty of time before the children came through the door around nine o'clock. The morning went well and by time I checked my watch around eleven thirty the last of the children had been photographed. The town wasn't far from the coast, so I drove down to Seaspray, near by was part of the Ninety-Mile Beach. Parked the car and took a short walk over some sand dunes and found the view ... read more

so my days as an australia slacker may soon come to an end. I may do 1 of 3 things. 1) There is an offer to work as a crew type member on a boat, which would include full days of painting, sanding and general repair. At the conclusion of this 5 day work period...they would dive certify me for free. So that may be an excellent oppurtunity to save some dough and acquire madd skills. 2) run a local radio show. this would be extra cool because of the oppurtunity to use my ipod to provide the music. I could cue up the playlist beforehand....then just click play...and pause as needed. How freakin slick is that. 3) Help a guy with platypus research. I am not really sure what this entails..but it would likely be ... read more

24 May 2002 I left Deniliquin and drove thirty-six klms south to Mathara which took about half an hour. When I arrived in town I had to drive up and down the back streets to find the pre-school. The address the office had given me was wrong. Once I spotted the climbing frames under a large cover I knew I had found the Mathara Pre-School. I went inside and surprised the two lady’s working in the Center, it seems they weren’t expecting me until June. I decided to get in touch with my office to let them know about the mix up. I was told the date was right and I had to explain to the director, she apologised and let me set up my equipment. By 9.30 all of the thirteen children had arrived and ... read more

25 May 2002 I paid the accommodation and food bill then left Deniliquin just as the sun was starting to climb above the horizon. Thirty-three klms northeast of Deniliquin the town of Conargo was passed. I travelled east towards Jerilderie then Lockhart. Although it was a back road I was still able to maintain a good speed until I came across a large heard of cattle. Some of the stock decided to cross the road so I had to stop. In fact they took so long to pass I decided to drive, very slowly through the their ranks, filming with the video camera as I went. Eventually I arrived at the junction to the Hume Freeway and my speed climbed to the legal 110 klms per hour. Gundagai was used as a rest stop where I ... read more

2 June 2002 I followed my usual direction through Yea, Seymour. When I was near the Shepparton airport I saw a yellow stunt plane fly low over the runway. It was about five hundred feet high and did three victory rolls before climbing high into the sky. As it reached a pre-determined altitude it rolled over and dived for the ground, pulling out at the last minute close to the runway then did another circuit of the airport. I pulled the car to the side of the road got my video camera out and ran across to the airport. I was just in time to watch the yellow plane land. I waited for about twenty minutes to see if it would take off again. It did, I was ready this time with the video camera. I ... read more

3 June 2002 This is the third year I have worked in Griffith and I must say the lady’s who run this Kindergarten are very helpful and easy to get on with. Today I only had nineteen children to photograph and they gave me lots of smiles and were a pleasure to work with. In the afternoon I went to a National Park about twenty klms east of town. The last time I was here I found a walking track that I promised myself, would be explored at a later date. At the end of a fifteen-minute walk I found a rock face that during the winter is the Falcon Falls. Unfortunately, because of the drought there was no water to be seen but I did spend a good hour climbing and exploring the cliff face. ... read more

19 May 2002 I made sure my fuel tank was full before leaving for my journey into NSW. The trip through Yea and Seymour was with overcast skys looming overhead. Every now and again spots of rain fell on the windcreen but the further from home the better the weather became. Once into NSW there was only about an hour and half of my trip left until the outscirts of Deniliquin was reached. I booked into the Centrepoint Motel just on 4 pm. That evening I went to the RSL for a meal but not before I photographed the local flocks of Corellas roosting in the trees on the banks of the Edward River. 20-21-23 May 2002 It was a couple of years ago the last time I was working in Deniliquin and I remember it ... read more
