We have started the 2nd leg of our trip meaning we have seen all our long lost friends and now we are going on 2 adventure tours. We will miss all the people we were able to see and had a great time catching up and visiting, reliving travel memories as only they would understand. Kudos to all our hosts, you showed us a part of Australia we could never see without you! We are constantly overwhelmed with their generosity and hospitality of all our friends these are the things that make traveling precious. We are richer with every new experience. We have seen different stars here. The Southern Cross is only visible in the southern hemisphere and we have had a few good looks. The 1st and most memorable was on the Central Coast. Another great plan of Kathryn's....that went wrong! Recruiting fellow drunken traveller Ian, to get up early in the morning to "Go and see the seals...what an adventure!" didn't quite go to plan. Knocking on his door at the early hours...forcing coffee and toast down his neck and getting all excited about our adventure I was suddenly brought back down to earth to hear that "they've got pups at the mo and no-one is allowed near them!" So much for my adventure. Anyhoo....Ian humoured me and agreed to a bit of sight seeing around Wellington.... ...first we took the Cable Car up to the Botanical Gardens. Hmmm....views were nice but I think the hangover clouded our judgement slightly. Ended up entertaining ourselves in the kids playground and then lying on the grass wishing we hadn't got out ... read more

On arriving at Uluru airport we were hit by humidity and attacked by flies! On the coach ride to the resort we saw the mighty Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) surrounded by desert. It was an impressive sight. Next morning we got up very early to see the Olgas at sunrise. We stopped at a lookout point to watch the sun rise over both the Olgas and Ayers Rock before heading to the Olgas to do a 7km walk. The walk has to be done early in the morning as after midday it is far too hot and the route is closed. We enjoyed the walk, except for being pestered by flies as nobody had told us we would need a fly net. We walked around and through the Olgas just before the ... read more

by caroline DAY 97 Our flight today is 12.10pm, back to Carcacas yet again. The worst thing is saying goodbye and that empty feeling you get. We arrived in Caracas at 6.30pm, at the Catimar hotel we head to the bar for supper, we ordered 2 beers and got 2 strawberry milkshakes good to see our spainish has improved. Day 98 Flight to Dallas is 10.24am, on arriving in Dallas we have to make our way to security where for some reason my camara sets off an explosive alarm, just my luck. Tim's looking a bit panick stricken, anyway no worries apparently this happens all the time. Whats daft is you can just walk out side and have a smoke, with nothing stopping you from just walking out into the street. L A is much the ... read more

Hello kiddies there was once a mousy brown, no blonde, no, platinum, no, pink, no, red, no blonde, no brunette, no mousy brown haired girl named Kate. When she was a little girl she dreamed of growing up and one day being a judge. Most of her teachers thought she was a little strange because of this and kept her on "special needs" watch. She grew up and studied law and then became a real grown up lawyer. and she got to wear suits. and this made her happy. and she had a red sports car that had no roof. and this also made her happy. And for many years she lived happily in Lawyer Land and had lots of really exciting clients who did lots of really interesting things. And she produced lots of very ... read more

Preface Since 1998 when I first visited Tasmania I have wanted to do the Overland Track, one of the worlds great walks. The weather gods did not send welcoming signals then and I wouldn’t have had the time to do it either. Thus, I had to come back… After eight years I was to find that - except for the weather - things have changed. The Overland has become so popular that the park management had to limit the number of walkers which is certainly a good idea. Furthermore, they introduced a hefty 100 dollars walking pass (summer only) which in my opinion is a bit expensive since you don’t have to pay anything if you do just parts of the trek. Anyway, of course we paid for our permit and started our great adventure on ... read more

Day 2~Got up at 8 and had some breaky on the balcony-was really nice as the sun was just coming out and the view out to the beach made it look beautiful. Drove up the beach and then in land where we stopped and looked at a few different trees. Then we did a short rainforest walk. Had lunch at the picnic area by Lake Birrabean then spent the afternoon on the beach there which was complete paradise-white sand, crystal clear lakes (with no scary creatures in it) and the sun was out in full! Had great fun playing waterpol and then rounders on the beach! In the evening it was back to camp for some spag bol and abit more wine!! Day 3~Got up after a slightly better night sleep, (apart from waking up thinking ... read more

Moving on from Magnetic Island we headed further up the coast to Cairns. We checked into a another pretty good place called 'The Bohemia Resort'. We had a week to kill in Cairns and the weather wasn't great so we rented a car for a few days. It was a really small crappy car that was a bit like a go-kart. We first went to Kuranda and the Sky rail cable car just north of Cairns. This had the oldest rainforrest in the world. It was nice to see but we've seen quite a bit of rainforest while we've been away and it was raining so you couldn't see that much. We drove around to the Atherton Table lands and visited some nice quaint towns such as Yangaburra and saw the Cathedral fig tree. We also ... read more

Was up bright and early today for the second try at the first day of ocean dives! Arrived at the dive centre at 10am. well before Jy, our instructor...he was late so i guess the beers are on him when we finish tomorrow!!! We all set our gear up, a bundle of nervous energy and excitement. We loaded the boat, piled into the back of the truck, all adjusting our damp wetsuits, and headed for the beach. Once the boat was launched and we were all aboard it was a smooth ride on an ocean like glass, even the dolphins were in high spirits. Heading towards Julian Rocks was much less daunting today on a sea as calm as you'd like! We dived in the nursery again as we had joined a group for whom this ... read more

Arrived in the Coromandel Peninsular with Magic Bus on Friday. Fantastic YHA hostel in Whitianga (pronounced Fitianga) aptly named "'On the Beach"' and my bunk has fantastic sweeping views of Buffalo Beach through massive bay windows. On the way here we did a 40 minute walk to Cathedral Cove which consists of two lovely bays separated by a large rock archway. Also went to Hot Water beach where, at low tide, you can dig your own thermal pool in the sands and soak in hot water. We got there just before low tide, but nevertheless crossed the beach armed with our spades! The tide wasn't low enough to successfully dig our own pool, however even just by sinking your feet deep into the sand you could feel the hot water below, often too hot to leave ... read more
