You can see this from the cable car.
Moving on from Magnetic Island we headed further up the coast to Cairns. We checked into a another pretty good place called 'The Bohemia Resort'. We had a week to kill in Cairns and the weather wasn't great so we rented a car for a few days. It was a really small crappy car that was a bit like a go-kart. We first went to Kuranda and the Sky rail cable car just north of Cairns. This had the oldest rainforrest in the world. It was nice to see but we've seen quite a bit of rainforest while we've been away and it was raining so you couldn't see that much.

We drove around to the Atherton Table lands and visited some nice quaint towns such as Yangaburra and saw the Cathedral fig tree. We also saw some of those giant termite mounds but they had Japanese tourists crawling all over them so we didn't take any photos. We drove up to Cape tribulation north of Cairns on a lovely but rather dangerous road. A tanker actually careered over the cliff only a couple of hours after us on this road. We stopped off at the Rainforest Discovery centre which has a canopy walkway. There is an audio tour which quite is interesting and we were hoping to see some Cassowary's which are native to here but alas they were not about but they did have one of the biggest spiders we've ever seen in a web outside the cafe. At one part of the tour we got absolutely bit to f**k by mosquito's.

We originally checked in at the YHA up here but when we got to the room it was just a big tent like cabin. We decided NO! we were not going to stay there (too many spiders, bugs and snakes!). They were very good and gave us our money back. We did find somewhere further up the road that was a bit more enclosed (and a bit more expensive!). In the morning we visited this little bat house where this British ex-pat bloke looks after injured and orphaned fruit bats. These up close are really cute and are actually more like flying lemurs than actual proper bats. We went back to Cairns after this as we were a bit worried about the rain (243mm in a day) getting us stuck up here as you have

Tis is a pretty place on the way to Cape tribulation with some nice swimming spots.
get across these fjords. Our go-kart just about got across some fjords up in Cape Tribulation but if we had of waited any longer then we would have been washed down the river.

On the way back we stopped for a Crocodile sightseeing tour of Cooper Creek which feeds off the famous Daintree river. We were quite lucky and got to see three adult crocs including an out of water shot of a large male. However the mossies were out in force in the mangroves.
