Just a quick one to say that I am still homeless and jobless! We have applied for a 2 bed appartment, fully furnished as well which is hard to come by here. Hope to hear back on that today. We are going to be living with ex Popstar Andy Orr (of Six fame), and Anto - a guy I played football with in DCU. They arrive in Brisbane on the 14th. Flying down to Melbourne tomorrow for the weekend to catch the Grand Prix. The Aussies we are staying with here are coming down as well (Dave - ex Pioneer colleague), and we will meet up with Blathnaid & Ian, Andy & Anto, Dale (Aussie we met in Vietnam), and a few other Irish.....should be a hectic weekend. So watch out for us on the TV, ... read more

Well im in perth and considering i lived here for 5 years coming back wasnt really travelling. But i did decide to go north to see the Pinnacles. Initially believing they were very close to Lancelin they were actually about 150 kms north and ended up sleeping in the car overnight but it was definitely worth it! I dunno, a layman would say they are just a bunch of tall limestone rocks in a desert but not many places exist like this and so the unique beauty was definetly there. Another astonishing aspect of this side of the world is the lack of well... anything.. There is just roads and bushes and more roads, the towns are meagre and have a few people in them but really is an extremely isolating experience. Not to say ... read more

Ok, so I'm not technically travelling yet - but I thought I'd test out some potential blog sites and see which one I like the most. (Yes, I know I'm a nerd - but you all love me anyway...right?) It looks like its going to be kind of cold - Marg kindly emailed this article to me from the SMH this morning: url=http://www.smh.com.au/news/World/Snap-freeze-temperatures-plummet-in-Europe/2005/03/02/1109700504579.htmlSnap freeze: temperatures plummet in Europe Now, I wonder how I go about inserting a photo?... read more

I felt more than a tinge of sadness as I made my final descent down Hall Street into the heart of Bondi beach. I came to favor swimming on the northern end near the tidal pools where you enter the Pacific via moss covered rocks - a kind of side entrance where you can sneak past the crashing waves and strong currents into a calm, unpopulated patch of ocean. I feel extremely lucky to have been able to share this most beautiful corner of the world and I do not feel at all worthy of the luxurious leisure I've been dwelling in this past week. ~~~ I'm in a remote part of New Zealand now right - a beach called Karekare just outside of Auckland. They filmed parts of the film the Piano here. It's extremely ... read more

This week we had to take the bus to Flinders Uni on two separate occasions: once for a Mandatory Reporting Meeting (a requirement for child welfare in the state of SA) and again for a field seminar with students from Norway. Both of these visits to Flinders were very exhausting since our cohort has had ongoing difficulties with the faculty and procedures of the Uni. Amber, Doran and I headed off to Montefiore Hill for some “ice blocking” Saturday. Yes, that’s right-ice blocking. I was introduced to the summer activity in Colorado a couple years ago. A church in the city transported us to the Montefiore Hill so we could give it a go. It was pretty fun except for the part where I almost hit a tree. Fortunately, I was able to maneuver my way ... read more

Hi, Well it's one week to go until I fly out. Just thought I'd put in some photo's of the combined going away / 30th party. It was a pretty big night judging by the kingsize headache I had the next day/s. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get photos of everyone for one reason or another....probably due to those cock-sucking bloody cowboys (note mum - they are drinks not actual cock sucking cowboys!!)). I hope everyone had a great night.....I sure as hell did. I only wish we had video footage of Scotty break-dancing, Dazza & Pete pulling off some big moves and Vickster cutting up with some Kath & Kim interpretations.....classic. Anyway I wont forget that party in a hurry. Seeya Ren ... read more

Finally I got offered a very nice room at Bondi. It's just a banana-throw from the beach and my room has two windows facing the water :) I'm really happy, and now I can start exploring around Sydney. Aloha... read more

Sorry we haven't been in touch with Travelblog lately, but we've been roughing it in the Outback and just got back to civilization (meaning our beautiful ship!) yesterday. We have covered a LOT of territory. Australia is roughly the same size and shape as the US. Our tour guide compared our travels the last 4 days to starting in NY, flying to Colorado, then taking a hop up to Michigan, and ending up in Canada. Some more interesting facts: the population of the US is about 280 million. The population of Australia is 20 million, with 85% living in or near Sydney, the largest city. Most of the rest live in several large cities around the coast. The rest - a mere handful - live in the enormous interior. In Alice Springs, one of the largest ... read more

2005/02 Entry 3 DAY 13 : Cooma - rest day Not much happened today DAY 14 : Cooma -- Bombala ODO: 797km DST: 92.5km MAX: 46km/h The only real thing of note that happened today was when a guy came up to me in Nimitabel and said "g'day, i thought i'd come over and say hello to you, 'cause most ppl don't like to talk to fella's like you - they think you're on the dole and haven't got a job and so you ride your bike because you're too lazy, but i like to talk to you blokes anyway"....hahah...i said "huh?" and then he kind of repeated himself. Anyway, after a few minutes talking i think i may have convinced him that *1* i'm not on the dole and *2* most lazy ppl don't decide ... read more

Hi all. It's the end of my second day away from the motherland and I've had two full great days in Sydney. Thankfully my first day here was long so I seem to be on somewhat of a normal sleeping schedule. It only took me approximately 5 hours off the airplane to slip into my bikini and walk down to the beach. Bondi Beach. Beautiful. Reminds me a bit of La Jolla Cove in San Deigo, CA. I kept waiting on the beach to get sweltering hot so I HAD to cool off in the ocean but a steady breeze prevented me from getting sticky with sweat. Eventually I succumbed to my curiousity and entered the cool, clear far west of the Pacific Ocean. Lovely... A few hours later, we - my friend and local host, ... read more
