Hej guys! Saa er ogsaa Fraser Island oplevet. Vidunderligt.

We spent the day today down at the Reef HQ, Townsville's own aquarium which was awesome. It features a huge tank with hundreds of coral reef, fish and predators in including sharks, sting rays and green sea turtles. It was a stunning visit where I was able to take some pretty cool photos as hopefully you will agree. Mike... read more

There is not much to Alice Springs, it is a small city in the middle of the outback. We took the opportunity to relax here and didn't exert ourselves too much. We found a kangaroo rescue centre where a guy rescues baby joeys from the pouches of their mothers who have been killed on the road. He then raises the orphaned joeys and when they are old enough he releases them into the wild. We spent a couple of afternoons there cuddling the little joeys in their make-shift pouches. One of them, Ned Kelly, was so small he didn't even have any fur. Other things we did in Alice Springs were visit the Reptile Centre where we held a snake and several lizards and we also walked to the top of Anzac Hill for a view ... read more

Sorry folks this has been a long time coming! Although we really enjoyed Oz we found it very expensive (as we had to fly so much) and fairly similar to the UK. We began our Austrialian adventure with a couple of nights in Brisbane to sort out our bus tickets up the Gold Coast, and to visit Austrialia Zoo, unfortunately we didn't see Steve, but managed to spot many lookalikes! From Brisbane we caught the bus to Noosa, an upmarket seaside town, then to Rainbow Beach to see the coloured sands, and then onto Hervey Bay to visit Fraiser Island. Frasier Island was just as beautiful as Rachel remembered and brought back fond memories of her trip with Jo and Penni. We did a little walking in the rainforest and lots of swimming, but not in ... read more

Today we met up with Sean and Emma (from our Fraser trip) and we headed to Eumundi Markets (largest market in Queensland). Just as we arrived on the bus the heavens opened up! The first stop was the pac a mac man. I got a fetching XXL lilac rain coat to my ankles and Andy got a dashing royal blue knee length number! He ripped the first one so we said it was ripped and took it back! We had a wander around the market for a couple of hours. Lots of nice things. I got a ring and an anklet! Andy got nothing. As you can see from the photo we were still looking for funny signs. The market started to close at one, so we went over to the bus stop to catch the ... read more

Bus at 8am, straight to so called 'Rainbow Beach' named beacuse it has over 70 different colours, but all i saw was one sand colour and a strange looking grey - not pretty at all! Our bus driver, Claire, took us to the beach to tell us all about aboriginal culture. But it started to rain. So we moved. She told us about the culture and iv forgotten it already but we tried to play a didjaridoo (no idea how to spell that!) Neither me or Skinny could coz we kept laughing! We were also hungry, so we had lunch, and then had a go with a child proof boomerang! That didnt really work either. So we made our way to the Sunshine coast, the start being Noosa, were we stopped for a couple of hours. ... read more

Another late start for us today as a result of last night!! The rest of the flat were worse for wear too..................... good call for a fry up! We treked off to the market and I got my hair cut for a mere $15 (7ish pounds!) thats a first- but didnt include a wash or dry!!!! So embarrassed- cos my hair was curly it was like I haven't brushed by hair for what seemed like days! It took her a good 1/2 hr to get though the mane! By the time I got to the market it was closed- went for food and said goodbye to our ex roomy Dave (who is off fruit picking) and now we are just chiling at the flat and packing as we are off to Sydney tomorrow morning- we are ... read more

I've arrived in Alice Springs "The Red Centre", after a 2 hour flight from Perth. Thanks to Nige and Nicole for putting me up whilst in Perth, and for the lift to the airport. Stopped off in Cottesloe before the airport and took a few photos with Nige. The landscape from the plane was awesome, you can see why they call this part of OZ the "The Red Centre". The colour of the landscape is parched red by the sun. You will also notice from the photos, that not many rivers contain water!!! I've booked into my accommodation for the night. It's a very clean and friendly place, even if a little more basic than the accommodation I have been used to recently!! Just about to head for a curry, which has been recommended by the ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Port Macquarie March 11th 2006

On the weekend of March 4-5, we took off up the coast for another exchange teacher gathering. This time we were travelling 3.5 hours north to Port Macquarie. We were lucky enough to be able to take Friday off school for the trip up the coast, but the weather didn't cooperate and it was really quite a gloomy, dreary drive all the way. We stopped at a fairly secluded site called Seal Rocks. It was great to get out of the car and just hear the waves crashing on the beach. No other sounds... just water, incredibly powerful water. We didn't see any seals and as soon as the heaven's opened up we jumped back in the car. Another scenic drive took us off the main highway and through Forester (pronounced 'Foster') and several small sea-side ... read more
