Shopping all morning (had to get our bearings) then met up with Wendy at the station in the afternoon. We got her settled in the hostel (which is 5 seconds walk from the station!) Then we went for a bit of a walk in Botanic Gardens. We thought we'd found the open air cinema, but we asked about it when we got back to the hostel and apparently an open air hostel doesn't even exist. Well done Skinny! hehe! We felt like going out that night, so we got our flip flops on, did a lot of walking to find some place lively and half decent, but no where let us in with flip flops on. so we walked alllllll the way back again... read more

Made the 3 day road trip from Melb to Sydney (sun 12/3-tues14/3), which was a task in itself....not to mention the 2German guys we were travelling with. Lets just say we didnt see eye to eye with them and managed to argue with them the whole journey.....not about anything too serious but just about which route we were to take and who would be driving, as we were all meant to be sharing. I think i drove for all of 3hrs over the whole 3 days....wouldn't mind but Paymen the German was the worse driver possible and just about road worthy....so lets just say we didnt relax!!!!!. Poor Vix only got half an hour driving!!!! That day we didnt make much progress up the East coast, had to stop at Phillip Island along the way to ... read more

Hey yall! Wow! The ouback is the REAL Australia!! Nothing for miles around...Have you seen Crocodile Dundee? Well, it's like that with bushes and dead cattles and dead kangaroos by the road...It's pretty intense...The heat is....well it's just HOT!!! The first day was around 45 degrees celcius...No kidding!! This is hot as hell!! I mean you get out of the A/C bus and you think you'll have a breeze of fresh air or something but nope, just super warm wind, a bit like a hairdryer....so not a cooling breeze at all! Anyways, so our bus got us to Cooper Pedy, the world capital of opal and the world's almost only place where most of the town lives underground! That was quite something as we actually slept underground ourselves...Weird smell, dusty and really really really dark dorms....I ... read more

Mooie stad.

We are in Shark Bay, Western Australia, right now. It really lives up to its name - there are shark everywhere. We have seen so many from the beach, gliding by as a dark shadow in the turquoise water. We've also seen turtles, rays, sea snakes, and dugongs in unbelievable quantities. However, what the area is really famous for are the friendly dolphins. Every day, the local conservation group feeds them fish right off shore in about knee height water. Both Scott and I got to hand feed them - it was amazing! Later that day, we were in the "swim zone" and about three dolphins happened to swim by. We had our snorkels on so of course started looking under water for them when suddenly I felt something big nudge me. I assumed it was ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Great Ocean Road March 11th 2006

11 March The Great Ocean Road runs west about 200 miles from Torquay, south of Melbourne along the southern coast to Port Campbell. It was built just after World War I with two purposes in mind. First it was a memorial to the fallen soldiers of the war, and secondly, to try to equal the magnificent Pacific Coast highway 1 in California. And equal it, it does. It is unbelievably gorgeous! All along the ocean road, on both sides of the road, and very close together were signs reading: “Drive on the left in Australia”. We laughed, but it was obvious that there are many foreigners who make the drive and forget which side of the road to drive on. After a picnic lunch, as we were heading west, we came to a place where there ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Noosa Heads March 11th 2006

Kayla and I are currently in Noosa Heads. We had a small bus ride from Brisbane which wasnt too bad at all. We bought a bus pass for 200 dollars traveling with Greyhound Australia. Its really neat becuase we can make as many stops as we want inbetween Brisbane and Cairns. We had chosen to stop at Noosa , Rainbow Beach , Hervey Bay ( for Fraser Island) , then take a 12 hour bus ride all the way to Airlie Beach where we will book our sailing trip to the Whitsunday Islands. Kayla and I are most excited for this , all our fellow travelers have pumped us up and spoken about how lovely this trip is. Beautiful Scenery , scuba diving along the Barrier Reef. We are staying at the Koala Hostel in Noosa ... read more
