Well folks it's our last day here in Melbourne. The last week has been terrific. We have been into Melbourne as well as visiting lots of interesting places in the surrounding area. Following a very quiet weekend during which Linda revisited her culinary skills by cooking a wonderful Sunday roast dinner (whilst Ken went for a swim in the communal swimming pool with Richard, Ellie and Georgia) we ventured into Melbourne on Wednesday. We were first of all staggerred by the cheapness of the train fare - less than £2 each for the equivalent of a trip from Bicester to London! On arriving in Melbourne our first stop, more by luck than good judgement, was the Rialto Tower - the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere, according to the official blurb: we seem to be making ... read more

March 8 Wednesday Esperance. Thought to take SC&B for a walk on jetty. Met lovely lady and talked of our lives. I Said to fisherman sticker for fish. He gave me herring and mackeral cleaned for breakfast. Cooked on seaside barbie. Mobile coffee van wanted stickers. Spruiked in front of newsagency. Manager came out and wanted me to move. Got foul. I was sooo reasonable. Training. He actually shook hands and said to send cops to him to sort it out. My education and discipline continue. Went to beach which shocked me with its beauty. Swam. A runners dog pissedon my shirt. She was horrified. Washed shirt and pants and hung to dry near pier. Previous lovely lady came for coffee and made donation for stickers. Watched seals and dolphins frolick in bay. Went to town ... read more

Day 19 Monday 13th March Well it was back to work today as we both headed off to do the Defensive Driving Course. Hopefully we will now survive driving on the roads in Libya. After the course, which was in Jondaloop, we drove further up the coast to Minderie amd Mullalo hoping to find the bush and maybe some wild kangaroos. All we found was housing estate after housing estate. There are so many houses being built along the coast. It's no wonder so many people are emigrating to Australia as you can buy a fantastic property for a fraction of the price in the UK and moor your boat (if you have one)! Then it was back down to Cottesloe (our favourite beach) for supper and a quick look at the Sculptures on the Beach ... read more

Luksus til mutti her. ... read more

Well it was an early start this morning, with the Wayoutback safari bus picking me up at the hostel at 06:45!!!! The safari group consisted of 14 people in total, 10 females and 4 blokes!!! This consisted of a number of nationalities, 5 English, 4 Swiss, 3 German, 1 French and 1 Irish. The group is all young people, I think I'm probably the oldest. The tour guide is called "Sauce", and it's fair to say he is a typical Aussie. We started off with a cup of tea at the url=http://www.about-australia.com/travel-guides/northern-territory/alice-springs/attractions/building-structure/anzac-hill/Anzac Hill Memorial, gives a spectacular sunrise view over Alice!! After that it was a pretty grueling drive in the baking sun to the url=http://www.australia.travelmall.com/travelmall/attraction/Red%20Centre%20and%20Central%20Australia%20(NT)/The%20Olgas/the Olgas. We were up bright and early, excited at our next adventure, we were going to spend the night in a bush camp followed by 3 days and 2 nights camping in the bush. The Everglades. One of only 2 in the world. Sean and Emma poped by to say their goodbyes which was nice. Then the rush started! As we were both so tired last night we still had to go and get our 4 days supplies from the supermarket, so it was all systems go! We got the free bus into Noosa Heads, then got the free courtesy bus to our new home. You should have seen it! Our first reactions were COOL! (We get criticised for using this word too often but stuff it) This was a REAL bush camp! and it immediately gave ... read more

sharky, the boats hostess, woke us at 6:30 am ready for the 7:00 dive - 100km out to sea! The sea was pretty rough and I was glad to get under the water and actually start diving. I buddied up with Kim, who had at that point only dived 4 times and had gained her open water certification, and Lizette who had logged a similar number of dives to me. We saw a few big fish including some massive potato cod and 3 or more reef sharks. The second dive of the day was to the same site - but this time we took down a box with cut up pilchards in it to feed the cod. They would come up to the box, and then dart forwards with their huge mouths wide open to gulp ... read more

Brisbane is great, I spent today wandering round the place exploring the botanical gardens and the south bank parklands....a big green blur on the south side of the river with a man made lagoon and sandy beach thronging with locals and tourists on this glorious sunday afternoon....baking hot. Took some respite from the sun and explored the markets at Stanley street. I crossed back over the river in to the city and back to the hostel, which is nice a clean, friendly and welcoming...the mixed shower facilities are a little unorthodox but hey no complaints...they're clean! Having glimpsed Brisbane at night i decided to take a proper look and headed out, camera in hand and found the Riverside Centre with its posh restaurants and glittering lights affording beautiful views of Story Bridge...lit along its length and ... read more

12.03.06~ Well we were up bright and early this morning ready for our day out at Australia Zoo...home of the crocodile hunter-Steve Irwin! Before we left we said a very quick goodbye to Mel & Andy as they were heading up north today! It took about an hour on the coach to get to the zoo, where we got to watch Steve Irwins life story. The Zoo was much bigger than we expected and we got to see loads of animals including Kangaroos, Dingoes, the tasmanian devil and even Koalas...which i finally got to hold-so cute!! 15.03.06~We arrived in Brisbane a couple of days ago, and as Sean had been here before he got in touch with the friends he'd stayed with (Phil & Nan) and they invited us over. We caught the bus into logan ... read more
