Hey everyone, After leaving Surfers Paradise we travelled to Brisbane. It's a really nice city, it has a small town feel but still has all the city amenities. We were only here for three days so it was just a flying visit really. On our first day we did a bit of shopping and Laurie bought her snazzy new camera...notice how nice the pics are...and how many of them we have (she's been snap happy since she got it!!!!). That night we went on a nice leisurely walk to a lovely area called Southbank and had a drink. The next day myself and Liam rented bicycles and cycled around Brisbane's 500km of bike tracks (not all of it!), it was such a good way to see the city, we got to see all the sights and ... read more

Today we had booked to go on the Great Ocean Road day trip, with stops at different view points along the way.......................................... Our first visit was to Narana Creations which was an aberiginal centre where we watched a guy play the digerido which was cool and he taught us about traditional hunting weapons (??) After there we visited Bells Beach which is host to the big surf comp over Easter........ weather not that good today so doesnt look as pretty as it would if it was sunny. On our journey to the next view point we past Split Point Lighthouse, now a B&B but was used to film the Aussie programme "Round the Twist"!!!!! A childhood favourite of mine so was buzzing off that!!!!!! We eventually arrived at the Great Ocean Road and the start of ... read more

Soede Caroline! MEN........................ skattepige. I've been there, seen this & done that. Og det ... read more

Again, I am doing Australia in short! So here's a run through of what we did.....t We were in Oz from the 23rd January to the 5th March. From Bali, we flew into Australia's Red Centre, or more specifically, Alice Springs. ALICE SPRINGS 23 JAN 06 - 27 JAN 06 We were thrown into a true outback experience here, as we did a 3 day/2 night tour of Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Kings Canyon. We saw sunsets and sunrises- they were very early starts (i.e. 4am), but we appreciated in the end as it got hot there by 8am, by which time we had done all the walking. At times it was more than 40C. We camped out in the middle of the bush- not in a campsite like most other tours. ... read more

Thanks to lawyers I felt my first real pangs of homesickness this last weekend. I don’t tell you this because its bad or really sad. Its just a matter of fact. I’m sure it won’t be the last time. But as Count Rugen (the man with 6 fingers on his right hand) said, “this is for posterity so be honest.” So the story: I went to Freycinet National Park with all intentions of some real alone time. I was going to rent a sea kayak and kayak down to the sound end of the peninsula and camp there by myself. Well when I got there I found out that the rental place wouldn’t rent to groups of one person… no matter how much they beg and plead. WHY? Because of Liability Insurance…. DAMN lawyers F!$ing everything ... read more

Tasmania: Cradle Mountain English Our tour of Tassie (Tasmania) follows heading towards the South-Est. Next stop is the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Highlight of the area is the Overland Track, a beautiful hike between lakes and mountains which takes 5 or 6 days depending on your hiking skills (mine are almost not existing…). Obviously it is not for me! Also my fellow Nick agrees to skip it. The program will be "just" two hikes: an easy one around the Dove Lake and a more challenging one around the Crater Lake (we were also climbing the Cradle Mountain, which was not included in the initial plan!). The views were really nice and we have been very lucky with the weather! The first day was sunny, whilst the second was cloudy a circumstance which proved quite ... read more

Well, here is the rest of the run down to Sydney..... So, from Airlie Beach, we then got the bus to Rockhampton, where our hostel picked us up and took us to Emu Park... ROCKHAMPTON/EMU PARK 07 FEB 06 - 09 FEB 06 We just chilled out here for the afternoon. The next day we got the ferry across to Great Keppel Island, an island of many beaches and not many people. We walked around the island a bit before settling down on the beach. Around lunch time, a massive thunderstorm chased us from the beach, so we sat it out and then returned to our spot for some afternoon snoozing. Caught the ferry back, had a relaxing evening. BUNDABERG/MON REPOS 09 FEB 06 - 10 FEB 06 The hostel we had chosen did a special ... read more

Considering that we want to start doing some overnight hikes, we thought it best that we do a couple of shorter hikes first so it won't be such a shock to the system when we eventually do an overnighter ;) We managed to rope our good friends Matt and Carly into coming along as well and it gave us a good opportunity to test out our new boots :D For our hike, we headed to the Sunshine Coast to check out the Great Walks that one of Kate's co-workers told her about. The Queensland Government has been working on a "Great Walks" project for a while that provides walks of various lengths for those keen to experience a bit of the outdoors. The Great Walks are split up into various sections and you can pick which ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Echuca March 5th 2006

MORE PHOTOS TO BE ADDED SOON! Sean and I went to Echuca for the weekend. Echuca is a town situated on the Murray River, i.e. on the Victoria/New South Wales border. It's about 200km from Melbourne and the town of Moama lies opposite it on the NSW side of the river. In the 1800s ex-convict Henry Hopwood persuaded the government to establish a river port here and this led to the town's affluence. Paddlesteamers frequented the river carrying all sorts of goods. Today the town is still famous for its paddlesteamers although they only carry tourists. We got to Echuca late Friday night after taking a slight detour through Bendigo, oops! We tried our best to find some bush camping but in the dark our search proved hopeless so we eventually gave up and checked into ... read more
