Up at 7am today, half the tent flat on my face and boiling hot. I was still dying for the toilet as i had waited all night! Once we finally got to the showers there was a huge queue, and later on we had to have one of the bossy Canadian girls come in and tell us to hurry up! wasn't our fault!! The hot water was a dollar for every 3mins, so I decided just to have a cold one instead. It was a trek to Lake Wabby. We had to walk a LONG way down hill to the Lake and dreaded the walk back(about 1.2km). The Lake itself was very green, and the sand dunes were so big it looked like desert. Nothing like Lake McKenzie, so we didnt stay there long and went ... read more

Well we finally see the ocean again and hit the east cost of Cairns!!! Cairns is a lovely town, very popular with tight arse backpackers like ourselves, so it's right up our street!!! The only downside is we arrived mid rainy season, and when I say rainy, non stop torrential raining for a week. With non stop rain, heat still early 30's, and 90% humidity, you can imagine the sweathole our camper was in!! We tried to escape the rain and headed north slightly to a gorgeous little town called Port Douglas. Albeit, the rain still followed! We stuck around for a few days, taking in some of the fantastic sights. Just a wee shame the weather was not on our side!... read more

Melbourne: Great Ocean Road. English During this second stay in Melbourne I join my new Japanese friend Satoru for a tour on the famous Great Ocean Road. Starting at 7.30 in the morning, the first stop is in Bells Beach, a famous place for surfers! The place looks nice but no surfers are around! Maybe because is not even 9 AM? I guess so! Anyway the stop includes also a coffee break with cookies, very good! Not for the coffee (which I didn't try...), of course! After another short stop at the Memorial Arc and a beautiful drive along the shore we stopped for lunch close to a camping site full of Koalas! Some of them were even moving, which according to the guide is real luck! Pity you can not really touch them (it would ... read more

Weeks 1-2 (10th-23rd March 2006) Greetings from Australia!!! We are finally here for good, after a seemingly endless wait for the house to sell - but it all happened so fast in the end that we didn't have time to stop and take a breath!! Sincere apologies to all the family and friends that we didn't get a chance to say goodbye to. It just wasn't possible to do it all. Still, you can always come and visit us in Oz for a cheapy holiday when we eventually settle somewhere. So the grand plan for those of you who don't already know - we landed in Perth Friday 10th March after a rather long journey via Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. We have spent the past 2 weeks buying a car (Toyota Landcruiser 80 series, 4.2L Diesel ... read more

This morning we sent on a short foot tour of Tonsville to get our bearings for the next couple of days. Its nice to be back in a town that is big enough to have good facilities, and in a picturesque setting. Our hostel is located next to the marina, a short stroll into the heart and sould of townsville town centre, which at night reminded me of something out of Miami with all the neon pink and blue street lighting, pretty and aluring. Having spent the morning taking photos and acquainting oursleves with the town ssettled down for a swim at the hostel pool and catching up on some reading and work emails... Mike... read more

Due to a late night internet cafe sesh and Louisa having the only key to the room, I slept in the TV room! Had breakfast then slept for the rest of the morning. Later we took a very long bus ride to Bondi Beach. Wasn't that impressed, very built-up, seen better almost everywhere, it's not Blackpool! ;-)... read more

We made a visit to St Kilda today......... still part of Melbourne.............. We took the tram (naughty girls didnt buy a ticket and we managed to get away with it!)................. Took a stroll down the main street....... o my gosh never seen so many cake shops!!!!! Mum- Uncle Mike and Auntie Heather would adore this place!!!! We had a little stroll to the beach and the pier, sat and ate our little packed lunch- A soggy pitta with left over rocket and peppers! (o dear!) We then decided to reward ourselves with a good old cake and cuppa tea! Vix had a Summer Fruit Cheesecake (Pickles aka Vix you would have loved it you cheesecake-a-holic!) and I opted for a Coconut Tart! Slightly warmed in the microwave! Andy and I were up at 5am to sit on the beach and watch the sunrise, yet again. We were also joined by 4 other people from the camp. By 5.30am I had decided that it wasn't going to be all that good and went back to bed! Andy stayed on the beach. Whilst he was lying down taking a photo he felt something pulling on his flip flop. He turned around to find a dingo attached to his foot! He jumped up and backed off. The dingo started to yelp at him and then went and posed for a perfect picture before coming up to Andy again barking! At this point he decided to go back inside and boast to everyone of his encounter over breakfast. After showers we packed our things up and onto ... read more

Waking up early to take full advantage of the day, Matt and I went straight to the beach for a bodyboarding session, which lasted a good couple of hours and was very enjoyable. On the way to the beach we came across a patch of water seperating us from the beach, on the sand around the area there were hundreds of little holes that confused us somewhat, as we looked around for clues we noticed a moving carpet of little blue backed Soldier crabs, a real sight, something you'd expect to see on a BBC wildlife programme. After surfing we went back to the cabin for lunch and then Brett, Scott's dread-locked brother, picked us up for a day of fun in Coff's. He gave us a load of options for the day and we just ... read more

Hi everyone, Made it Melbourne safe and sound early Friday morning. I took an overnight Greyhound from Sydney Thursday night. I might have managed a few hours of sleep with all the tossing and turning. In this sleepwalking state, I wandered around the city center looking for breakfast with my huge pack and tried to kill off a few hours. Still, I managed to be half an hour late meeting my friend Sarah by the Royal Botanical Gardens, but luckily she's nice and agrees that there should only be ONE Park Street in Melbourne. Whoops! Anyhow, it was great to see an old friend. I haven't really spent any time with her since she graduated from Wellesley in 2003 (a time that was quite possibly the most fun I've had in my life) so we had ... read more
