Up v. early and off to Marlgu Billabong, where it was bird-watching a-gogo! There was a lot of lens envy going on between the guys as they got their cameras out. It was a really beautiful spot, but there's only so many photos of birds you need! Later on we saw these huge statues of aboriginis, kangaroos and stuff .. very random indeed. Also visited "5 River Lookout" where, bizarrely, five rivers come together into Cambridge Gulf. Next stop Timor! Then on to the famous Gibb River Road and to El Questro, a million hectare ex-cattle station that has now been transformed into a huge kind of resort with very expensive heli-fishing and horse-riding trips and accommodation that costs $1000 a night per person. (I later found out Nick is friends with the people who used ... read more

Woke up early needing a pee and then lay in my swag until everyone else was up and i could put it off no longer! I haven't managed to get my butt stung, pricked or bitten by anything yet whilst peeing so it's all good so far! :-) Left camp at 7am (!!!!!!!!) - bit different from Heading Bush when we would usually be just about ready at 10am if we were lucky. First stop was Cathedral Gorge in the Bungle Bungles, which are huge sandstone gorges and mounds (often beehive shape) approx. 350 million years old extending over a vast area. The sandstone domes are striped orange and black (orange is sandstone, black is cyanobacteria (algae)). Another impressive walk and again it was lovely and peaceful as we had the whole place to ourselves, so ... read more

Shell Beach near Denham is a beach, which in places is five metres deep in shells. Over the years pieces of shell have blown onto the beach and formed a 'shell beach'. It was lovely when we went there as there were no other people, just the two of us and all the shells. I collected some pretty shells while Andrew played photographer setting up nice shots and running up hills to join me in them - very funny to watch. Enjoy. ... read more

Denham was our next stop in the Shark Bay area, ye I did say 'Shark' Bay. I was a little worried and rightly so as we were soon told not to swim in the area as Great Whites regularly visit the shallow waters and may take a fancy to a wee bit human every now and again. Denham is a bigger town than Coral Bay, but very nice never the less. The main attraction of tourists in this area is the friendly Dolphins at close by Monkey Mia. There has been a dolphin feeding programme going on there for years and you can go and watch the dolphins being fed and coming very close to you in the shallow waters. They are really very tame and come right up as though they are having a good ... read more

The world's oldest living thing, this was a quick stop on the way to Shark Bay, or on the way from Shark Bay, I cannae remember, anyway, does it really matter? These 'things' are fossilised micro-organisms, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it Dr Twiseltoes, you said that I'd never learn anything about Chemistry, shit maybe he's right, maybe this is bioligy? I've digressed again but the pain never leaves you, the pain of Dr Twiseltoes, my 2nd year Chemistry teacher that is. Let me explain. We were in class, as required, and me and Mogga were at the front of the class dicking about as usual, the mad doctor then got us all up to watch an experiment, an experiment that we were about to replicate. So he exlplains what he doing and ... read more

We'd been looking forward to this place for a long time, luckily the Perth weather was kind to us and the day was sunny and warm. We hired a tandem and had a really great day riding around the island, tandems are excellent fun, we'd recommend one to anyone looking for something a bit different, just keep an eye on your rear passenger else you could end up pretty knackered by the end of the day! Luckily for me, no such problems with Jo! We were expecting the ocean to be as cold here as it has been everywhere else so we didn't take out snorkelling gear........mistake, it looked absolutely awesome out there, only just warm enough but we could have braved it!! Oh well, you can't have it all, we did get our feet wet ... read more

Wow, Coral Bay is a beautiful idyllic wee place, I love it, it's my favourite place in Australia! There is just one street, a campsite, hostel and small hotel and a lovely wee beach. We spent three days here enjoying the tranquillity and beauty and also making friends with some fish. We had swithered about going diving but you have to go on a 3-day course before and it's a little pricey so we went for the snorkelling option which was absolutely amazing. We were taken out to the Ningaloo Reef on a glass bottom boat so we got a sneaky peak of the wonders beneath before we took the plunge. It was a beautiful sunny day and I bet you imagine the water would be a nice temperature, well you would be very wrong, it ... read more

Well Dan left for Ireland on Wednesday - my 25th birthday :( Was sad to see him go and I wished I was leaving as well so we could be having fun on the plane together! But someone got a frequent flyers ticket in business class.... oooerrr Dan - just remember - you've had a taste of the good life, now economy will be twice as unbearable! :p So I leave in 9 days... August 2nd. I cant wait! The bit I think will be the most exciting, is walking through the doors at the airport in Kalmar, Sweden and seeing Dan! I love going on planes... so I am really looking forward to that part. My only hope is that I don't get sat next to some fat stinky annoying pig who will insist on ... read more

This amazing spectacle "Staircase to the moon" only happens twice a year and only in 2/3 places in the world, one of which is Broome, North-Western Australia so off we popped to enjoy the wonder. Hundreds of people flocked to Town Beach and awaited the site, lots of hippies gathered in bare feet wafting incense and chanting. The number of people there didn't seem to affect the amazing atmosphere when the awaited site began to appear, there were gasps and clapping and then complete silence. I am not sure if the pictures do it justice, it's one of those things that you have to experience I think. Our last day in Broome was spent at Cable Beach, just enjoying the sunshine. The following day we moved Southwards to Coral Bay where the Ningaloo Reef is, on ... read more
