Arrived in Margaret River for wine tasting. Accomodation of a high standard (and price!) so decided to try out being TPT...just call us Kevin and Britney! We're staying at River View Tourist Park - not bad and walkable into town. The first afternoon and the next day we headed straight for the wineries. NB. All tastings were free! We went to: Leeuwin Wines Great wines - is one of the very best wine producers of WA. (Thanks Scott for the advice. ) Amazing estate. Wines pretty expensive so we had our samples and scarpered! Voyager Dutch Gable South African style building - really magnificent. Owned by Michael Wright who, it is alleged, is a tee totaller! D loved the gift shop - rammed full of precious things! Gill, you'd have l... read more

From Freo to Bunbury; wild dolpin spotting. Unfortunately due to the bad weather for the time of year, none to be seen. Will try on the way back. Stayed in The Lighthouse Motel - great views of the coast and ocean. Bonus for poor travelling folk...free laundery and spa!!... read more

From Broome we travelled down and through the hell hole of Port Hedland, its got the longest ships, longest trains, biggest piles of salt and the most expensive campsites ever! We'd recommend it to anyone!!! Then the real west coast adventure began, having armed ourselves with snorkels we headed to Exmouth, and Cape Range National park, including the Ningaloo Reef. We almost didnt make it due to an unfortunate incident of keys being locked inside Ronnie Ray which only a coat hanger could fix. (We have repeated this offense again and have subsequently got breaking into the car down to 10 mins!) Saw Turquoise Bay where you swim from the beach to snorkel the reef which easily rivalled the Great Barrier Reef for colour, fish and reef. The Beach was also awesome Turquoise was definitely an ... read more

Hired a car - made 1 hour drive to Freo. Checked into The Old Firestation backpackers hostel. Wandered around the lovely old town - it's a bit like an old western movie set. Trams, harbour, markets etc. Shackled Spencer in the old round house stocks and had great seafood. Later got chatting to another couple travelling from the UK, and got incredibly drunk with them on cheap wine and beer in the backpackers bar. Not pretty!!. Hangovers too bad to do the Prison tour the next day - intend to do on the way back.... read more

It’s true what they say about Perth, it is very windy. The photos in this blog as we travelled further down the West Coast look like some kind of paradise and they would have been except for one thing……..the wind. We have managed, although some people we have met haven’t fared as well, bent tent poles and the like. We have gradually become accustomed to the cooler weather, low to mid 20’s and have largely managed to escape any wet weather. The weather today in Fremantle is more like it - 32degrees. Thanks Ange, very entertaining and informative and … entertaining. Well better get on with it. I’m typing from the deck of a cafe because its easier than balancing on an unergonomic chair. (Yes, it’s a real word.) We are currently in Hopetoun which makes ... read more

My first night in Australia was horible, i spend more time crying and calling than sleeping but after for next two days i slept so much then my homestay mother was worried she juste told me that few weeks ago. I didnt know i slept for 2 days i think it's why when i arrived in my new house i felt like everything was going wrong i was tired.

Had good wander around Perth, so clean and orderly...but in a nice way. Australians really nice. Ended up in King's Park, just lovely. Botanical gardens, raised above the city, great views of the city, Swan River and area. Finished in an Irish bar Durty Nelly's for wino and ale pie (Spen - not D!). Got to say, the only down side of otherwise perfect Oz is the expense for out of work travellers....however, thanks for the tip Fruity and Luce, got a nice 4 litre wine box chilling back in the room for later! Perth work ethic something to aim for too. Get physically thrown out of shops/cafes at closing time - up to 30mins before closing time they are very relucant to partake in any customer service. Note to self...must get a job in Perth. ... read more

Did some shopping (walking sandles/sim cards, etc) and just relaxed back at our hostel (Emperors Crown). In the evening, checked out the Perth nightlife; Brass Monkey. Cool bar, first glass of decent wine since Thai wine. Bliss on the tastebuds (but not the wallet!). ... read more
