We landed in Australia not that sure what to expect. To be honest we’d done very little research on any of Oz let alone our first state of Western Australia, or first city, Perth. It was cold. Obviously it’s the middle of their winter, that much we did actually know, but it happened to be the coldest winter Perth has had in about 40 years and after over three months in Asia we really felt it! It was also expensive! And we’re not talking in comparison to Laos/Cambodia/Vietnam, we’re talking compared to London! However although it was cold and the prices were a shock the sun was shining, the sky was blue and if the UK had weather like that in any season we'd be delighted. We checked into a hostel in Northbridge, one of the ... read more

Welcome back to our blog!! So basically, just to explain, I know there has been many complaints that I haven’t done a blog for the past couple of months but it’s just because we have not had a massive amount of news to report on a weekly basis, however looking over my notes of what has happened there has been a number of funny happenings. So without further ado I‘ll start. Kate finished off the last blog at the end of our bush tucker Canoe adventure (thanks again Sam it was a fab day). After that we spent a couple more days in Margaret river. We had decided we should find a little work to help fund some of this trip, so we had a think and decided we wanted to work together, work in a ... read more

Well, we had already extended our weeks stay in Margaret River to an additional week, so not sure if we could get away with extending it another. Simon, whose house we were staying in might find it a bit funny when he comes back in a month to see us still sitting on the patio. Then again maybe not. Think he was kind of expecting it! But we decided we better head back to Melbourne and figure out our next steps... (not that we really have, guess we should all know by now, we don't do a whole lot of pre-planning...) The weather finally started to get a bit better the last few days we were in Margs, and we continued to check out many of the side roads that veer off and lead to yet ... read more

Sorry about the lack of updates lately, we were having a few internet issues and then got busy, but here it is... Since we were in the region and Brett was now drinking (and actually enjoying) wine, we decided to go on one of the bus tours that take you to several different wineries. We ended up calling Bushtucker Tours at 10am to book one, and the guy said "No worries, will be there to pick you up at 10:10!". So that gave us 10 minutes to get ready, eat brekky (since we didn't want to go at it with an empty stomach!) and be on our way. We were the first of 20 people to be picked up and we were at our first winery just before 11am. We went to 4 different wineries which ... read more

We arrived in Perth around 8am on Thursday morning to sunny blue skies which had been awhile after 2 hazy weeks in Hong Kong, and it was a welcome sight! Our flight from Hong Kong via Bangkok was pretty good, although we didn't manage to get much sleep in even though we had 4 seats between us. Something about sleeping on planes just doesn't seem to happen for us. When we got into Perth we grabbed our bags and hopped in a cab and headed over to the Domestic Terminal where we were picking up Tarra who we had managed to convince (and that was pretty hard) to come over to this side of the country for 4 days before she had to head back to work after another couple weeks off for her school holidays. ... read more

The good news was that we never saw a ranger, so that was another free night’s camping! After a brief look at the local beach, we went to a place called CaveWorks. This area is renowned for its limestone caves, and we took the opportunity to visit Lake Cave, the only live, or wet, cave in the area. This means that water is still seeping through and dripping off of the various straws, shawls, stalactites, etc. and that are growing at one inch every 60 years. Mind you, after I’d walked down the very steep 400 odd steps, I was beginning to regret the visit (I won’t bore you with how long it took me to get back up again!!), but the Cave was stunning, with the lake reflecting the wonderful structures. They are very concerned ... read more

Hey folks, Did you all have a good valentine day? Well this edition will be the valentine edition bought to you by Kate!! We have been tucked away in the South West corner of Oz for the last week. After having a great time in Esperance we headed to Albany, which was 387km. In Albany we generally chilled out, relaxed and took it easy for a few days without driving around (which can be hard in an old van), so you guessed it we headed to the beach! It was lovely as they all are in WA but after enjoying swimming in the water, we were relaxing in the sunshine on the beach, when Matt read in the paper that a shark had been spotted here just 4 days before! It didn’t put us off though, ... read more

Torsdag: Vi sto opp tidelig ... read more

Written: Jan 2010 Published: Apr 2010 Wow have we had the best 4 months or what! Weddings, birthdays, the races, engagements, mini-breaks, family do’s to name just a few. Only… where does one start? Firstly we are pleased to report we are back on two wheels after Jeff fell in love with “Daz” our new addition to the family. We’ve been out a few times touring around in this gorgeous WA weather and look forward to him coming around the rest of Oz with us in future. Love ya work Daz! Summer has well and truly arrived over here and last weekend we had our hottest day ever since we arrived (Ok it was only about 39 but when you live on the coast that is frigging hot!). That morning we went fishing with Jeff’s new ... read more
