Left early to get to the Valley of the Giants. This is a tree top walk amongst the trees called "Red Tingles", thus because the bark is red and tingles is from their aboriginal name. They are very fragile trees hence they buit the tree top walk, the roots grow just under the ground surface and can be cruched if walked on. They are the biggest and oldest type of tree in WA. They become hollow in the middle due to fire, fungus or insect damage, but the bark carries on growing in layers on the outside making them up to 20 metres across at the bottom!!! The biggest one there is called the Grand-mother and is over 400 years old! The metal walkways are suspended on metal pylons, not great if you are scared of ... read more

From Perth we headed south to Margaret River known for its big surf and ample wineries. On the way we saw our first native animals since arriving in OZ- kangaroos. Hopping across a field as we drove I was so happy to see these animals in their natural homes instead of pent up in some zoo. I set about yelling "kangaroo" for the rest of the week every time we saw our marsupial friends (much to Ev's delight- I think I nearly scared him off the road a few times). We continued our drive into Margaret River and instantly knew we were in a very nice area. We were staying at Walcliffe House the first residence built in Margs by the Bussell family. We wound down the drive and our jaws dropped in amazement at the ... read more

26/10/08 Sunday Day 73 Just after we leaving we forgot to bring our little fold out table so we headed back. Then we were thinking that we hadn’t seen that table since we were in Bunbury. We checked the site. Nothing. Then we asked reception if they picked it up and your wan behind the counter says “Oh someone’s probably lifted it lovey into their own caravan. Sorry about that but we can’t control if people take stuff”. Lovely attitude. We didn’t like that table anyway. We only used it once anyway! Today we’re headed to Margaret River. This is where all the wine comes from. There’s vineyards about every 100 metres on the way here from Bunbury. The town itself is small. You’ll walk it in half an hour. There’s only one main street really ... read more

Jeff proves that going to work is bad for your health! On the 11th of July our lives changed in a big way…hence adding two blogs at the same time and some of the first blog being now “old news”. Sorry to all those finding out about the accident just now through our blog, but we just didn’t get around to letting everyone know separately. First things first, Jeff is alive and can walk & talk…in a split second that outcome could have been a lot different. Thank you to his guardian angel, whoever you are, love ya work! On a cold, wet & windy Margs Friday Jeff headed off to work on Boris II (the motorbike) like normal at about 6:40am. At 7:10 the mobile phone rang at home (usually Jeff has the mobile with ... read more

Kangaroo - tick. Wallaby - tick. Crocodile - tick. Snake - tick. Termite mound- tick. Didgeridoo - tick. Unfeasibly large spider - tick. Wild pigs - tick. Enormous-eared cows - tick. 4 weeks in Australia and we have at least seen some of the "tourist" sites... though some remain elusive: Bobbly cork hat on an actual person; Koala Bear; Shark; Whale; Paul Hogan. Not sure we will get to see everything though we'll give the whales a shot (not literally) here in Western Australia where the sun is shiiiiinning and the ocean looks beautiful. Since our last blog we have visited: Port Douglas - higher end touristy, not much to report apart from great fish (to eat); Atherton Tablelands - pastoral, fertile land behind the rainforest - we loved seeing the cranes, herons, pigs, kangaroos and ... read more

Since our last update (yes, it’s been a while) not only have we moved house, both had birthdays, celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary, Jeff has a new job…we have also had 2 lots of visitors from “over East” as it’s commonly referred to here! Early in April we welcomed fellow alcoholics and great mates Jason & Suzzanne to our shores for just under a week. With such a small window of opportunity to play up we hit it hard, fast & steadily crammed as much good-time in as we could. Mostly we spent the hours wiling away in their apartment, catching up on all the goss and laughing till our bellies hurt. Naturally we did venture out on a couple of occasions to taste the delights of Margs, including the local bambi farm where we ... read more

We travelled to Margaret River with Dara, an Irish guy we'd met in Perth, and met Cat on the bus on the way down. The four of us had a couple of really funny, drunken days at Margaret River, sampling the local wines, liquers, champagnes, cocktails, cheese, chocolate, ice cream....so a lot of indulgence! We spent the first day exploring and watched the sun set at the beach which was cool. On the second day, we went on a wine tour of the region which was excellent. The area is beautiful, really green and lush, with lots of bushland, parks and a great beach. The wine tour guide was really entertaining, and made us a lovely lunch which we had sitting outside at one of the wineries - had some of the best food we've had ... read more

Well after leaving Bunbury we travelled the coast all day, walked the 2km jetty at Busselton and took in the sights at Yallingup. We've been at Margaret River for two days now and loving it, went on a wine tour today that visited 3 wineries, a brewery, cheese factory, chocolate factory, venison farm (the salami we bought is fantastic, didn't buy any Bambi burgers). Although cold, Margaret River is great, good Restaurants and the Beaches are amazing. We have befriended some ducks that sleep outside our van now that we have fed them. Having a veg out day tomorrow, sleep in, bacon and eggs, hire the canoe here and go for a paddle, take a look at some local caves and do some fishing. Will head to Albany Friday for a day or two and then ... read more

Goodness me I really havn't written on here in aaaagggggeesss!! This may be rather long!!!hehehe Sorry about that guys, I guess you've all missed my little updates over the last week (or were you secretly relieved :P hehe) Lets start at last Tuesday when I travelled down to Margaret River with Laura (Han's cousin). Got up at 5am to meet her at the airport!!! It was totally worth it though and we really got on like a house on fire! Margaret River is soooooo beautiful, and although the weather was not at all in our favour I still had the best time there and was able to appreciate all of the stunning scenery etc... We started of our Tuesday by hitting the wineries at about 10.30 - 11am ish!! haha This was fun, and some of ... read more
