I spent yesterday shopping a bit and then packing up...again. You would think I'd be a pro at packing by this point but it's always still a struggle to make sure everything fits. But I did it. I booked myself on the train out to Kalgoorlie for the next morning so it was into bed early for me. I hopped on the train at 7am the next day. It was an uneventful train ride until about an hour away from Kalgoorlie when our train stopped and announcements were made that a train ahead of us on the tracks was having engine problems and that we couldn't go anywhere until that train was fixed. We ended up waiting for almost an hour. Luckily I had reception on my phone so I managed to get a hold of ... read more

Hi everyone, we are still in Kalgoorlie and loving it. Today we visited a mining hall of fame – very interesting. Rodger has now completed 3 holes of the Nullarbor Golf Links – this is the world’s longest golf links. You play one hole at different spots across the Nullarbor. It is a hoot. Today he had to use a tee for fairway shots as it was all dirt and stones and he didn’t want to damage his expensive golf clubs. The putting ‘green’ was ‘black’. We laughed ourselves silly. We are amazed at how big the mining area is here and now can believe that they were able to see it from space. The history in this area is unbelievable. This arvo I went on the notorious Hay Street Brothel tour (Rodger went shopping). I ... read more

3488 Klms from Home Hi guys, well we are now well and truly in WA and 2 hours behind your time. Our first sight of the Great Australian Bight was fantastic. The Nullarbor Plains is great and every changing. We still cannot get over how green everything is. Another few hundred kilometres and NO living kangaroos. Last night – Saturday - we camped in the bush again, just before Border Village,. It was wonderful. We could not go into Border Village because we had too much food left to eat, that would have had to be handed in at the Quarantine check point. As it is, they got ½ an avocado, 4 mushrooms, a couple of lettuce leaves and a FULL jar of Honey. Today we lunched at Cocklebiddy. Shouted ourselves fish and chips, because we ... read more

Kalgoorlie The weather the past couple of days has been a treat, providing beautiful sunrises each morning, particularly on Sheree’s Birthday – where we travelled from just north of Norseman to Kalgoorlie. We ditched our camper pretty early on to check out the tourist sights, staying at Discovery Holiday Park Kalgoorlie($34 powered site – less with top tourist membership). We spent the next 48hours enjoying the magnificent views in the largest working open cut gold mine in the southern hemisphere - KCGM Superpit, and what a golden mile it was! We were later to discover just how small our ute would be in comparison to these massive trucks and machinery – in one picture you can see a ute following a truck out of the pit, appearing so miniature in comparison. Hi all Please read the entries below for the latest update. 15th Feb 2011 We’ve been in Esperance for just over a week now and today is the first day with sunshine. It has been very windy and overcast so we have only ventured out on the odd occasion. We did the “Great Ocean Drive” on Sunday, which follows the coast to the west of the town and loops back to the Pink Lake, close to our caravan park. The scenery was lovely, with high white cliffs leading down to the usual white sand beaches. Today was spent exploring Duke of Orleans Bay, approximately 110km east of here. On the way there, we came across a couple of young Austrian girls whose car had run out of petrol. We drove 20km to the nearest petrol station ... read more

We are in Kalgoorlie, having arrived here last Friday, just in time for a torrential downpour on Saturday, which again soaked our living room (aka our awning area). Fortunately, Paul’s repair job on the leaking skylight held fast and our caravan remained dry. We don’t seem to be lucky on the weather front, but I was chatting to some fellow German travellers whom we originally met in Esperance and caught up with again here, and they said that, cyclones aside, this unusual rainy weather pattern is set to last for at least this year, and may continue even into next year. The reason? From what I could understand, the Pacific Ocean has of late been two degrees higher, and this, combined with unusually cold weather in north Australia and beyond, has clashed to create these wonderful ... read more

Merry Christmas to everyone!!! My last days in Southern Cross were really good and a bit sad saying bye to everyone. I was definitely ready to get out of such a small town. I worked my last shift and then everyone came down to the pub in the evening. Jo had made a leaving banner for me so everyone that came signed it with a little message for me. It was awesome. Kylie, the skimpy from the club (a canadian girl), Jo, Stevo and me all sat up on the back balcony after closing the pub and had a few drinks and just had a chat. It was really awesome. The next morning i finished packing up all my stuff and Kylie and her son Jayden took me to the train station. Kylie and I cried ... read more
