I got a job today! Its in an office near the temp agency, so thankfully I already know how to get there. I start tomorrow morning, and the pay is pretty decent. I think Danielle is getting homesick. I'm not sure how to help her. I'm hoping that once she goes for her interview and is able to get outta the house and work, that it'll get better. I'm not homesick yet. I probably will be at some point, but right now, I'm right where I wanna be. We've almost been here three weeks, and I haven't gotten tired of being able to relax yet. But, going out and finding my way around the city on my own was pretty excellent. Made me feel more at home here (and also, totally overwhelmed). I definitely feel more ... read more

Its been an interesting few days. Danielle and I decided to go out Friday night, even though we had no idea where to go. We got all done up, then went and checked out this Tavern by Colonnades Shopping Center. It was pretty brutal. So we went into the liquor store next door and asked the guy working where we should go! He directed us to the Emu, and off we went! It was a sports bar, and pretty lively, thankfully. We met a table of boys there, who turned out to be really nice. They even paid for our cab home, so we could stay longer! They taught us how to play pool (the balls here were only two colors. Not stripes and solids like at home), and we hung out 'til super late. The ... read more

Introduction On the last week in October we indulged in a self-made long weekend in the Flinders Ranges. We took Friday and Monday off and headed to Wilpena Pound. We were based at the Wilpena Resort and had a nice room, albeit short of a few essentials, which were quickly replaced. From here we made several trips - the first BIG day - a walk to Saint Mary Peak, the highest point in the Flinder’s Ranges, and on the second BIG day - a scenic flight around Wilpena pound, a 1-2 hour walk to Arkaroo rock, and short walks through Sacred Canyon and the solar power station at Wilpena. How to get there The trip was around 1000km - a 4-5 hour drive each way. The route map (top left hand corner) will guide you on ... read more

Leaving our campsite at Salt Creek, as well as Larry's remains - sucked dry and respectfully placed in the rubbish bin - we continue our drive northwards along the Limestone Coast before turning left towards the Fleurieu Peninsula. This finger of land juts out westwards into the Great Australian Bight, sixty or so kilometres south of Adelaide. "The Fleurieu" is a popular destination for holidaying Australians, and has acquired something of a "foodie" reputation. Sounds like our kind of place...Our destination for the moment, however, is not the peninsula itself but the island that lies at its tip. Getting to the peninsula from the Coorong involves crossing Australia's largest and most important waterway - the Murray River. At this point there are no bridges spanning the river, a modest one by European standards, so we take ... read more

The Great Ocean Road comes to its end too soon. What a drive…The remainder of the coastal road between Port Campbell and the South Australian border is somewhat less impressive, crossing as it does wide expanses of featureless agricultural land and large industrial towns such as Warrnambool. The rather tedious drive is spiced up, if that’s the correct word, by huge wind farms and a gargantuan cheese factory, complete with cheese museum. Not very much to go on… We spend a night in Nelson, a small town a few miles to the east of the Victoria-South Australia border. We’ve been driving for four days now and we have crossed barely half of Victoria lengthwise - the concept of “distance” here in Australia is something quite different from what we’re used to. Although Victoria is, indeed, Australia’s ... read more

We all went out for a drive today. We left here at 10am, and drove for about two hours into the Adelaide Hills. Its really so pretty out there. The roads are a bit scary, cuz they're so narrow and winding. We stopped in Mount Pleasant for lunch. We went to the hotel/pub in town. It was a cute little building, with not so great food. Excellent hot chocolate though (danielle and I got hot chocolate cuz it was FREEZING). On the way out, PJ and my mom got a "Pub Squash." Danielle and I were SURE they said "Pub Squat" and we were both rather alarmed until we saw them drinking something. After lunch, we drove on through Williamstown and went to the Whispering Wall. Its a dam that was built years ago, and when ... read more

Danielle and I went into the city today. It only took us 40 minutes on the train (which wasn't bad, since it pretty much went along the ocean for a lot of the way). After looking in some shops in Rundle Mall, we took the tram to Glenelg. They've replaced the tram since I was here a couple years ago, so it wasn't as fun. The old one was all creaky and....well, old. We had lunch in the jetty pub, right by the beach. We got calamari again, to see if we could find some that was amazing. So far, the calamari has been pretty disappointing here. I was looking so forward to it, but all we've been able to find is big, rubbery rings of it. Not nice. Danielle bought turkish delight in the Lolly-Shop. ... read more

Hey guys! Well the Broome trip was just amazing, hiking up gorges and sleeping under the stars for 3 days. Just amazing!! We arrived in Broome about 3 days ago. As soon as we got out of the bus, a burst of heat hit us. it was like 30-40c plus humidity!! it was insane! constant sweating. If you took a shower, you would stay wet... So we decided that we would get the hell out of Broome and fly to Adelaide where it is a nice and cool 16c! I got about 108 pictures to upload! Unfortunately the camera switched modes on me and changed the pictures to vga, so 75% of the pictures I took are about half the size. :( For now we will be staying in Adelaide for about 3 days than off ... read more

Today was fantastic. Danielle and I went with my mom and PJ down to the Noarlunga Fiesta. There was lots of wine tasting (which we didn't partake in), and hot boys. Danielle and I went outside once my mom and PJ started playin' the pokies. And there were the hottest guys ever. It was excellent. We went to a beer stand and told the guy we were new here and didn't know what beer was good. So he told us to try Tooeys Light and then Hahn's Light. The first tasted a bit like Kokanee, and the second like Canadian. The fiesta was really good though. It was the first time that I've felt like people actually live on this continent. lol before it all just felt like a vacation place. Afterwards, we took a drive ... read more
