Well, it was quite a relief to hit warmer climes.......that was until it rained anyway! Can you believe it one day after we had arrived and it was raining! Dispicable - although much needed and I think the vast majority of the Ozzie population was very glad of it! Anyway, moaning aside........arrival here was bliss, suddenly everyone understood us, there were no fears about getting lost and not being able to find anyone who understood, we could read the signs AND we were no longer battling through thousands of people to get down the road - although in all honesty it was a bit like a ghost town by comparison and oh so quiet! No blaring horns, constant unintelligible chatter or roaring ancient bus engines! We had indeed arrived back in civilsation as we know it! ... read more

This morning it was time to say goodbye and jump on a bus to Alice Springs. I'll have to say nothing really happened allday. We stoped at a couple of roadhouses, checked out the salt lake's, before finally arriving in Coober pedy, late afternoon. Coober pedy is a famous opal mining town, 'Priscilla, queen of the desert' was also filmed here, if you haven't seen it, I recomend you do. Before we had time to relax we had a tour into one of the mine's to find out about opal mining. Another interesting thing a Coober Pedy is that most of the town live underground in dug outs. The reason is that the dug outs remain at a constant temperature of about 23 degrees. So there is no need for air conditioning. Which is why we ... read more

Hey everyone, well I have been in Adelaide for just over a month now and am settling in well. I've had several great nights out and have made some good friends already. I am now living with Jules- a friend of Jon's. We get on really well. I have a nice double bed- luxury after the backpacking! I bought a lovely pink and white stripy bed cover set which makes me feel at home too! I have joined a beach volleyball team which I absolutely love. It's a great way to meet people and is so much fun. We sometimes have a couple of drinks before we play to make things even more interesting!! This week there was a free BBQ because it was the final of this season. We start again after the Christmas break. ... read more

After England's dismal effort in Brisbane, I was looking towards the second test in Adelaide hopeful of an improvement, but alas it was not to be as a pathetic batting collapse and a tepid bowling effort cost England the match on the final day and most likely the series as a whole. After the delights of The Palace Backpackers accommodation in Brisbane, I was staying at Josh and Tash's house in Henley Beach for the duration of my stay in Adelaide and I'm very grateful to them for an enjoyable stay. After quite a few heavy nights out in Brisbane, it was good to have a more laid back time of things for the next week or so. I'll quickly gloss over the cricket at this point, as I'm sure everyone knows that we declared on ... read more

Today it's time to think about doing some christmas Shopping. As Mark had to return to work, I joined Angela and her Parents on a trip to Marian shopping centre for the day. The next day it was off to Victor Harbor for the afternoon. Angela took me on a walk over to Granite Island, it's made of Granite hense the name. What I found most interesting was the horse drawn trams that ran along a bridge that connected the island to the main land. As we walked around the island it was great to see the Little Penguin Burrows dotted around. In the evening it was time for me to return to Uncle Chris's for the night, as i was leaving early in the morning. To end my time Adelaide we all enjoyed a meal ... read more

Well sadly after a wonderful two weeks, where we laughed, partied and generally ate and drank too much we had to leave and move onward to Perth and Singapore. Perth was very different to Adelaide very hot and much more anglicised. Singapore was even hotter and very, very humid. Excitement in singapore we arrived at our hotel to find we were sharing it with President Bush so had to undergo all kinds of security checks, but we did get upgraded to a better suite with a balcony nearly as big as our garden at home and free brekkie. It was so weird to be in all the shopping malls with malaysian people whilst english carols were played. Finally after a great four weeks we arrived home at 5.30 am to a very very cold english morning cant ... read more

It's monday morning and once again it's time to pack. As my cousin Mark is due to pick me up at midday. Mark is taking me on a camping trip to Kangaroo Island, yey. He arrives soon after i've finished packing. As Mark's girlfriend Angela is away with her parents in the whitsunday's. Their dog Archie is to stay with Uncle Chris and his dog Bruce, much their delight. We make our way back towards mark's house to collect provisions, Before we head off to the ferry at four o'clock. The ferry only took 45 min's, but i would recomend not reading, as it doesn't make you feel too great. hey, we made it, only to discover that the keys were locked in the car, opps. Lucky the ferry carries equipment for such problems and we ... read more

DEc 10th - Day 24 A leisurely start to the day, fully emmersing myself into the Aussie Sunday. A slow start followed by a coffee and croissant and a read of the local paper. A former shark attack victim, well it is Australia, had advised a recent victim to get back out surfing. Bit difficult with only one leg. The previous victim had lost an arm and was now a champion surfer. The took the time to better explore the Botanic Gardens, which was nice and also included a rest under a tree and a chapter of my book. It wasn't so hot today, but was a lot more humid, so a rest and cool down was welcome. Then a wander back to the centre for something to eat and drink before heading back to the ... read more
