Three years ago I came to the conclusion that New Years Eve is, in fact, overrated. I had spent one to many 31st of Decembers shivering in the rain at the Bay, listening to crappy DJ's at the Bentleys or worse still staying home coz there was nothing else worth doing. Thankfully, New Years Eve 2005 was a major improvement, with a road trip to Robe, a lively pub, lobster and great company. New Years Eve 2006 set to build on this new tradition and when I decided I was coming home for Christmas a lot of my excitement came from knowing that I would not miss out on the Robe trip. After an early start dropping Mum and Dad at the airport to fly off to Coolangata, I headed to Cherida's house to wake up ... read more

Speeding up or slowing down? Especially the latter half of this year... Self Expression & Leadership From Adelaide to Melbourne every other weekend for Landmark Education's Self Expression & Leadership Program, which brought an abundance of new possibilities, love, discoveries and self-acceptance. Resonance: October 18 - November 20, 2006 My first official, solo art exhibition... with thanks to my hosts at Coriole Winery, McLaren Vale. Stained glass mandalas of a spiritual nature... Suffice to say this was an immense learning curve and my deepest gratitude goes to the amazing woman who opened her studio and heart to me during the creation process. New Year's Eve! I decided to meet up with Anna and her friends for a night on the town. We went to a club called Earth for the countdown and then spent the rest of the night hopping between several bars. We had a great night and Zoe joined us in the early hours. I got home just after 7am and didn't see much of New Year's day! Definitely a night to remember!... read more

OMG we have finally arrived in Adelaide, Australia!! Had a totally busy week, so busy we didn’t even take any pictures! Gill and Neil have really looked after us so a big thank you to them x Adelaide is great, there is a fantastic market where Neil took us shopping for lunch on Friday and then out for a picnic by the river. The food is so fresh and they have a mega selection of just about everything! In fact it is the best food market we have been to. The city is quite small and really well organised, all the streets are in a grid system which makes it easy to get around. The beach is fantastic, we went for a drive all along the coast on Sunday. The beach is a pale golden sand ... read more

SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For all of those who have been waiting for the blog about my White Christmas in Sapporo snow boarding and roasting chestnuts on an open fire................................... ................................... Sorry, no can do. Actually I probably could make up a pretty good one, but there would be no pictures to go with it because it just did not happen. Nope instead of snowflakes and egg nog I boarded a plane (hikoki) with a big white kangaroo on the tail and headed for Christmas in Australia, and the best part was, noone knew i was coming!!! The whole devious plan started in September when I realised that because I am flying to Europe in March instead of flying home the ticket provided by my boss that had to be used to fly to Australia in March would be ... read more

I spent Christmas day with the Reachills- Paul, Liz, Anna, Zoe and Jon. They invited me over for Christmas dinner which was amazing- traditional turkey with all the trimmings. We had Christmas crackers too as you can see from the pics of us with our hats on! After dinner we all sat around the Christmas tree and everyone exchanged pressies (even little Monty got some!). It was such a lovely day and I was really glad to be part of their family for the day! I spoke to mum and Laura on Skype in the early evening and watched them open their presents on the web cam- it was the first time I had seen them in two months and it was very special- even if I did feel a bit homesick afterwards. That evening I ... read more

We spent a few days here and settled in for our christmas, getting all of the essentials one needs, like pretty little lights and food! With the van sorted and looking very pretty we got ourselves ready for a bit of hiking. Oh, okay an easy walk to Glenelg, nice little town with it's own little tram, quite cool really. Christmas was really nice and the campsite helped make it even better, a little on the posh side compared to what we were used to. The beach was also quite nice with only a little wind! Okay, it was bloody windy and rather cold in the shade, a shocking 21 degrees, strictly not what we were used to! It was rather nice right up until I (j) found myself in hospital.. I (j) still looking good ... read more

Introduction Desperate to do some walking but taunted by fire, snakes and hot weather, the Hikers did a short walk on Sunday on fire tracks adjacent to Cromer Conservation Park. Cromer is an overgrown park. There are hardly any recognisable trails - so it can feel scary walking here. The Park is square-shaped and is small enough that you can't get lost without popping out on to a road. There is a water course through it, however, like most of the State of SA, this is currently dry. We have done the walk recommended in 20 Nature walks through this park (not blogged) and came out scratched, but enchanted by the bird life, as have others. However, reading through the url=http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.parks.sa.gov.au%2Fyurrebilla%2Fnatural%2FYURRE_PDFS_CROMER_CP&ei=u9q... read more

I stayed for a couple of nights in Adelaide. Impressions: Small city by day, quiet town by night. On the map, it looks like it might have been similar to Canberra, with a north and south section divided by a body of water (the River Torrens). Only a much more condensed version with less traffic circles. But Adelaide isn't trying to copy any other city. It's got its own charm that doesn't really compare with other cities that I've been to. What I liked about Adelaide is that it's very pedestrian friendly, full of old colonial style architecture, and it's really easy to get around to see all the sights in a day if you please. In fact, most of what a tourist might want to see is located all on the same street. How convienant! ... read more

There wasn't a great deal to see or do between Margaret River and Adelaide except drive!! It all got quite boring so we stopped off at a couple of places for something to do. The first stop after leaving Margaret River was the Valley of the Giants. This is the home to the great Karri trees which are enormous, and the clever people of Oz have built a walkway high up in the trees for everyone's enjoyment - although maybe not those who don't like heights, especially if the platforms wobble in the wind!!! The next cause of excitement was when we were camped in the middle of nowhere and all of a sudden a plane lands just behind where we are camped in the middle of the night! Sweet, wonder if I can do a ... read more
