On the 16th Dec we headed back to the airport and caught a flight to the Gold Coast, where we were meeting my uncle and auntie and also my mum n dad etc! We arrived at our luxury penthouse..not bad for backpackers ha! Right opposite the beach and a 5 min walk to the shops and clubs. On the tuesday we went to White water world (waterpark) which was pretty amazing.. one ride reminded us of the boomerang slide in Malia where our bums ate up our bikinis! haha! That night we headed out and bumped into ray and rich..therefore our night turned out to be pretty mental and was full of waving, dancing and downing JILO's woop woop! We also went to the good old Hard Rock and of course shell had her platter! hehe. ... read more

Adelaide / The Great Ocean Road / Melbourne / Return to Brisbane The End Of the Road Trip The Great Ocean Road: Left Adelaide for the days drive to Warnambool which is the start of The Great Ocean Road at its western end. Set up for the night (very cold) and went exploring the town which was surprisingly nice (probably could have spent a little more time there if we had known) Found a great old fashioned type burger place and had the best burger since we got here (it reminded me of the diner in 'Grease', so much so that I nearly broke into my rendition of 'Beauty School Dropout' but was missing my big silver hairdryer and also Paul didn't look that keen on the idea!) Left early the next morning for the drive ... read more

Day 109 - Thursday 17 January I had to check out by 10am and for the first time since leaving the uk I had a hangover. To make matters worse its a bad one. Luckily I'd packed last night and somehow I struggled to reception to claim my free minibus ride to the bus station. After visiting the toilets there, I boarded the bus that would take me to our next destination Surfers Paradise. Its a couple of hours journey so as I wasn't feeling well I slept the whole journey. I'm glad I did, as when I woke up I was feeling a lot better. After checking into our hostel and having another hours rest I was ready to explore. Pretty much all the travellers we've spoken too have told us not to come here ... read more

Blog time- luckily for you Ive managed to turn what little intellect I had into incoherent gibberish the result being an incredibly short blog! Since arriving in Surfers Paradise on the gold coast we have settled into a happy routine.... happy..but not very healthy. Our dreams of becoming the oldest Trolley collectors were dashed when the dodgy pom never called us back to give us our shifts. There was a week where Jess and I sat staring at each other..not quite sure what to do..with the dollars rolling out the bank with ease..and the prospect of a job a distant dream. Luckily as soon as we decided to 'Go bust and Go home', fate intervened and Jess found employment. She is now ' The Cleaner'. I forayed in the sun...existing like I'd dreamt of... sleeping...swimming...sunning..and waiting ... read more

We spent the next few days down near the beach having good food and wine. It was really surprising to see such mental weather from the beach. I was amazed because I always have the vision of white sandy beaches and gorgeous sunny weather, not the case in Surfers! We managed to choose the hottest and driest day to visit Movieworld, another theme park with lots of rides and shows, much like Dreamworld. On our way home one day, we drove up the coast and as we drove past the entrance to surfers, we noticed that the there was a news van and a news reader on the beach. Me being me and Ricky being Ricky, we dived out of the car and down to beach where we proceeded to walk past the news reader in ... read more

Day 268 (20/12/07) We left Brisbane with a new passenger to the van. Conrad from our Western Oz road trip was also in Brisbane and heading towrds Sydney and decided to make part of the journey with us. We now had approximately 3 days to travel just under 1000km but there were still a few places on our list of things to see so we had to leave fairly early to make a start. A short (by Australian standards) journey took us into the heart of Surfer's paradise - a place that was much bigger then we expected. The long stretches of sand and obviously surf are fronted by a huge strip of skyrise buildings. We made our way staight to the beach to check out the waves and see why the place got it's name. ... read more

...Ho, Merry Christmas! Well it has been a little while since my last blog and i've done some amazing things in that time! Australia has been amazing, having a great time. ok so going back... last time i wrote i was about to get the overnight bus to airlie beach, that was a shattering journey. being 6 foot 3 it's not so easy to sleep when you have leg room roughly the size of a first class stamp, oh and a japanese girl who decided my shoulder would make an ideal pillow at 4 in the morning! Kind of getting used to the buses now though, for example our 6 hour bus ride to brisbane felt like nothing at all, in fact it kind of nice to have some time to yourself to read or listen ... read more

Bikini packed, beach towel packed and sunglasses on- destination Surfer’s Paradise!!! We flew to Brisbane on Christmas Day about 3pm and got the train link to Surfer’s which took about 2 hours all in, so we arrived at the apartment around 6ish. We had pre booked a meal at the local Vietnamese restaurant for about 8, but we were both starving and went early. The food was fantastic and the bottle of wine was even better!! (I learned my lesson on the flight out here!! wait till you are on the ground before tanking into the wine!). After dinner, we walked down to Surfers which took us about an hour, but we were just happy taking in the scenery and enjoying the heat! We were told by some people that the centre was quite tacky but ... read more

We took a detour on the sunshine motorway, hoping for a more exciting trip south, though it was much the same as the trip north. We arrived in Surfers for lunch and the Sunday session at Hard Rock Café, somewhere that has become a holiday tradition. We are staying at Budds Beach Apartments, just far enough from the centre to avoid the rowdiness, although within easy walking distance of the bungy jump park! Not a lot happens in Surfers during the day. The main attraction of the area is the theme parks. We purchased the three park pass to Movie World, Sea World and Wet n Wild. All were pretty good although movie world wins out as a result of the Superman Escape rollercoaster and the lack of queues. 0 to 100 km/hr in 2 seconds ... read more

Okay so we arrived here yesterday..I freaked out in the traffic..so busy, soooo busy!! I guess I found the city a little intimidating because of all the massive sky scrapers and buildings. I drove all the way past where we had booked in and paid a deposit and I had to pull over and call them to ask for help. They were lovely and gave me easy enough directions but WOW, when I got there I almost died. We are used to staying in country places where the accommodation is very private and secure and quite personal and warm. This place was different, we got there and no one was on reception. I had to pick up a phone out the front that was breaking up and so the line kept cutting off. I finally got ... read more
