8-10th Dec. We moved from Brisbane onto Surfers Paradise, been given mixed reviews of the place but wanted to see it for myself, found it looked like Miami Beach with all the high rise apartments and hotels, but overall I liked it, great beaches and a real holiday feel to it, somewhere people def go just for holidays I think living there would be too much, its very american and slightly cheesy but worth a few nights there. We stayed at Cheers Backpackers which was an okj location but the beds were appalling, thin mattresses on metal bunks were just really uncomfortable :( They do a BBQ there everynight for $6 which is good value and drinks in there bar are good value too. Everynight they take you on club/bar crawls if that is your thing ... read more

23/11/07 I had breakfast looking down on the pool and hot tub to which we all shared so may happy memories (non sexual tough!) with Nieke, Lotte and Oilvier (all Dutch). All of these three are going to be i NZ the same time i am so we all swapped details with the strong possability of meeting up agai there. Grant and I were on the coach to take us to Surfers Paradise by 11am both sad to say goodbye to Byron Bay. Danie being on te Premier coach service had to catch a later bus. We arrived after about 4 hours and booked into our hotel Islander which had a pool, tennis courts, squach courts and many other good features. We still had a dorm room though with 5 beds. Shortly after arriving a gave ... read more

Surfers Paradise seems to me like a mix och Las Vegas and Miami. Althought I haven't been in Miami so it might not be like it or maybe is just like it? Surfers has a beach, shopping, clubs, bars, amusement parks in abundance and the southern hemisphears tallest residential building with an observation deck at 230 meters, so I am guessing it beats the tall residential building "Turning Torso" in my hometown Malmo, hehe. Funny enough I didn't during my 7 days in Surfers go swimming in the ocean at all, haha. It seems I have seen and been at enough beaches and not impressed anymore. My days were filled with walking around, visiting Coolangatta, reading one of the great books I found in Brisbane, going to the amusement park DreamWorld which has mostly rollercoasters, but ... read more

The idea for joining the bush-walkers again so soon after my last adventure with them arose very quickly, after i have checked and compared my uni-semester-timetable and their further itineraries. Shortly after I have made my inquiry, Paul called me and offered me to pick me up at the uni-drive; as I was pretty sure that the weather will be fine during this weekend, I decided to leave the tent, that Andrew lent me, at home (-- a big mistake, as I had to learn the following day!!!); after some 2h drive on Friday morning 7:00am, we arrived at marine-bay harbour near Gold Coast; the other bush-walkers dropped in by-and-by, and we still had some time to take some coffee; afterwards a water-taxi drove us in a 1/2 ride to Tipplers resort (.. somehow this name ... read more

Surfers Paradise 27 Oct STREWTH ITS HOT! (G) Had the mother of all electrical storms last night. Very exciting seeing the sky lit up by the most dramtic lightning and the rain came down like I have never seen. We were paddling around the kitchen area for a while, the bedroom is (thankfully) sealed and was dry as a bone. Amazing how quickly it comes and an hour later its like it never happened. Has probably been the hottest day so far today which was slightly unbearable due to us both nursing severe Vodka hangovers and feeling slightly crook (aussie for unwell). Usual recovery of eating stodge (Hungry Jacks or Burger King to the rest of the world) buying an additional fan for the tent and sleeping all afternoon. Had a very nice walk along the ... read more

It's a beautiful day in Surfer's Paradise today and the sun is shining and there are ppl everywhere. This is going to be a quick one b/c I want to get back out there and enjoy it! Fraser island was grand! The group situation turned out just fine in the end... the Korean guys (there were 3 of them) didn't speak much english but they were very kind and helpful, i.e. did the dishes all the time, set up and put down the tents, all that great stuff!! Our group had 8 - 4 girls and 4 guys. We all got along and had some very adventurous times! Fraser is so stunning!!!! In our big 4WD we ventured all around the island on crazy tracks through the rainforest, right on the beach, you name it! We ... read more

Fri 12th Oct: We stopped at Danger Point on the way to Surfers Paradise, catching some amazing views across the bay to the concrete city itself. Surfers was only about an hours drive, which was nice after the longer drives we'd been doing. Weather back on track, we strolled around the town, topping up on milkshake. We decided this would be a good place to have a night out so stopped at an internet cafe to find some accomodation. We almost got stuck in another freak downpour but fortunately got inside just in time. Turned up to Cheers hostel, checked in then took them up on their bbq and night out to the Bedroom Nightclub. The hostel also had a bar so it was again time to sample the vodka (not bad as it happened!) Headed ... read more

If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down!".
