31st July - Surfers is Paradise After brekkie we checked out the rest of our hostel. It comes with a spa, sauna, pool, tennis court, games arcade, 24/7 internet, and even free soaps and water in the fridge, awesome! We had a hearty lunch at an Irish pub (we love those good old Irish pubs!) while shopping around for a bikini for Lucy (I hate this!) We had booked the tennis court for 4 so we headed back at 10 to and kicked the guys off the courts. I thought Lucy sucked, but she beat me 2 games running. So maybe it was me who sucked...? After an hour of tennis, we went to relax in the steamroom for a while.. I was the only one who dared have an ice cold shower afterwards. We ... read more

Spent much of my last day in Brisbane trying to find shoes that would fit onto my very swollen foot, as i was currently walkign round the city barefoot - lovely i know. Then hopped on the bus to surfers paradise , or surfer's parasite as my bus driver called it- hes clearly not a fan of touristy beach areas where all there is to do is surf, sunbathe and go out clubbing, but its fun for a few days! When we arrived in surfers we found, to our great pleasure that Kristie siobhan caitlin and I were all in the same room in our hostel, and not only were we in teh same room we had a whole mini appartment block to ourselves- just 4 beds, a bathroom and a kitchen. I dashed off to ... read more

After getting settled into our new apartment (Cheyenne and I live together in a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom fully furnished apaprtment, we're waiting to find out who our 3rd roomate will be) we ventured out to Surfer's Paradise, the nearby beach people flock to for great waves. Although it gets a little chilly at night, the sun keeps things really warm during the day. Apparently the ozone layer doesn't exist above Australia so the sun is even more powerful here. On Thursday one of the apartment owners, Michael, drove Cheyenne, Lindi, and I down to the far beach of Surfer's and then we did a little exploring. Afterwards, Cheyenne and I walked to Australia Fair, a shopping center that's something around 12 or 13 floors high. Some of the floors are higher up from the previous ... read more

After the epic 3 part plane ride and hour drive out from Brisbane airport, we're finally here in Surfer's Paradise. The area is stunning, and no matter how much I look out of our balcony I still can't believe where we are. I'm staying in a beach front hotel on the 11th floor, and the ocean is a gorgeous blue colour that you can't see in Canada. Yesterday we got our rooms at about 3 (our plane couldn't take off from Auckland because of brake trouble) and we checked out the beach before heading to the barbeque for Canada Day (we had lamb chops). It was very good food and everyone was having a good time, but I headed up early because I could barely keep my eyes open (although I saw the group from our ... read more

Hey Everyone, I'm super busy with assignments but I thought I'd quickly update on last weekend. We went to Surfer's Paradise and stayed at Griffith University with Nichole's friend Erica. Griffith was a really nice campus, it looked very new. None of us slept the night before because we had a 430am taxi and a 6am flight into Brisbane. Our flight went well but when we got into the Brisbane airport it was raining! We left Melbourne to get away from the rain and it followed us to Brisbane where it's usually really sunny. We took a train for an hour to Surfer's Paradise and then to a bus that took us to Griffith. Matt said he felt like he was in a children's book about transportation because in one day we were in a taxi, ... read more

Well my lovely people, I am currently in Surfer's Paradise waiting for the Oz Experience bus to Brisbane.....I stayed here longer than planned as I went out on a 'Backpackers Night Out' here in Surfer's on Saturday night and we went to Dreamworld on Sunday so it would have been a bit of a squeeze to catch the bus on the same day!!hehehe On my last day in Byron I took a stroll to the lighthouse and Cape Byron which was cooel....it was a really hot day too!! Trust me to book surfing lessons for the only 2 days that it was miserable weather!!haha On my walk to the lighthouse I met none other than Hayley (the girl I met in melbourne!!) Twas quite funny as I just saw her walking down the path coming back ... read more
