Hi, folks. Problems with the internet last night..........left Port Douglas yesterday and drove to the airport at Cairns where we caught our flight to Brisbane. We arrived 3'ish and picked up a car to drive to Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. All went well until Noosa fell off the road signs........but we duly asked a friendly service station guy who confirmed that we were headed the right way. Got to Noosa, or Noosa Heads as it is more commonly known......and our pre-printed directions really fell apart! I'd assumed that Noosa was only a smallish place - wrong! I'd assumed that our hotel was a small boutique one - wrong! Our directions showed it to be near the Sheraton - wrong! Anyway, we got there in the end and were very pleased with our suite, especially the ... read more

Nach zwanzigminüti... read more

After leaving Rainbow Beach, we drove to Gympie in hope for there to be a food store. We had from Rainbow Beach booked a canoe-trip together with Ruwen and Marie, and we were supposed to bring food for 3days along. Having not much left in the car, we hurried to the first biggest city, and found nothing but a rater expensive 24h convenience store open, but at this point everything was better than nothing. We bought some dried food, 24 eggs and headed off for Noosa. We arrived fairly late, though the boys did the driving so at least the girls got some necessary sleep. In the morning we packed our gear and went for the waterfront in order to catch our transfer boat up the Noosa River. The company provided us with some tents, cooking ... read more

Caught the coach to Noosa, didn't take too long! Love the accommodation it is a holiday lodge all wooden and with a view looking out into trees etc so you really feel in the wild! I checked in and was in the same room as Adam and Amy again! We went to the beach to relax and it's a lovely beach and I really like the town which is a good job because I have 6 days to fill in Noosa! We went in the sea and swam with the waves and tried out their waterproof camera but we all got a bit burnt from being in the sun and the water. We had a welcome meeting at the hostel at 6pm with a free glass of wine and then after that we chilled and shared ... read more

So my walk turned out to be epic! And a bit weird... Was a gorgeous walk along the coast of Noosa Heads. Absolutely stunning views of the ocean. Watched whales, dolphins and turtles. Also had to walk through a nudist beach. I was looking at whales in the ocean and trying not to look anywhere near the old men. What is it with old men and getting their wangers out?! Anyway, this old guy was walking towards me in the rudey nudey and I was exaggerating my ocean looking to avoid any kind of eye contact. Clearly I'm no good at this and he flagged me down.. I stopped to talk to him. His name is Trey and he's south african. Had quite a long conversation. Awkward as hell. Especially as he did insist on touching ... read more

Day started early, zee Germans started waking up at 5:45!! I got up at half 6. Still far too early in my opinion... Got the bus at 7:45. There was a lady sitting near me who, on first glance, seemed normal as she was groomed and well dressed in a nice maxi dress. However closer inspection showed me that she didn't have matching flip flops and was reading her magazine upside down. Interesting. Got to Australia zoo at 9am. In the pouring rain. Got the emergency poncho out. Looks like a giant white bin bag, down to my ankles. Hot. The bus wasn't due to pick me up until half 4. Already I was thinking that this was going to be a long day.. Text Kim and Nat to say I was at the zoo. You'll ... read more

You might not have guessed it but we were visiting Australia during their winter. It was one of the few inconveniences we had when planning our round the world trip. Leaving the UK in the new year as we did, whether we visited South America or Asia first, it made no difference. We would have to endure winter down under. Nevertheless, this had been a pleasant surprise. In tropical North Queensland the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees so we'd enjoyed some fine, warm days thus far. After taking a short two hour bus journey from Hervey Bay, we arrived at our next destination Rainbow Beach, another starting point for Fraser Island. Backpackers generally just stay for a day before and after their jeep tour and then get on their merry way. Seen as we'd just ... read more

So It has Finally come. After months of long days sleepless nights and lots of pots of tea 50 gigs in 50 days across 5 States has started. I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who has made this possible. From the Sponsors to all our family and friends both in the 50in50team and those of you who were there when the stress of it all got to much, without you we would never have been able to pull all this together. But it’s finally here and we started with a high opening for Ash Grunwald and The Choir Boys on the main stage of the Caxton st Food and Wine Festival in Brisbane. It was great to finally showcase what we have been locked away working on for so long and we ... read more

Arrived in Noosa from Brisbane on Sunday, the journey took about two hours by bus and I managed to see a little of the resorts along the coast as we dropped people off. The first day here my host Roswitha who is originally from Germany but has lived in Australia with her husband Klaus for around thirty years dropped me off at the National Park. I started my walk through the park armed with a map and set off along the Tanglewood Trail. About half way round the trail my path came to an abrupt end in a small pond. There had been a lot of rainfall previously and obviously enough to fill a small dip in the path. I was a bit reluctant to wade in not because it looked deep but would probably have ... read more
