Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Airlie Beach October 29th 2013

Had a nice big breakfast with Adam and Amy and then I checked into my new accommodation for the next few weeks! The room was very messy and I didn't know what to think but there were only 2 bunk beds which meant 3 people plus me and it was a large room for only 4 people with a small kitchen area and an ensuite shower/toilet. I just dropped my bags off and went straight back out to meet up with Adam and Amy again. We decided to go to the didgeridoo shop again as they really wanted to get one, when we got there I fell in love with this dark wooden one which had bark bits and knots. They also fell in love with one with aboriginal turtles on, especially after swimming with them ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Airlie Beach October 25th 2013

We rushed to the back of the overnight bus each taking two seats in the hope that the bus would be empty enough that we could sleep across both.. Luckily it was and I was far more prepared than the last overnight journey so I had my eye mask, ear plugs, hoodies, blankets, and food! I did manage it sleep most of the way, every time I woke up I just changed position and then went back to sleep! I woke up around 7 with the light coming through the window and decided to look out the window for a bit to see how the landscape changes, it was mainly farmland and hills and a few factories with smoke but nothing spectacular! The bus stopped for breakfast at the side of the road and we took ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Fraser Island October 20th 2013

Woke up early and caught the bus with Adam and Amy to Hervey Bay as they are going a day early so are not on the same Fraser trip. There wasn't much to do in Hervey Bay so we sat by the pool while I waited for my Fraser trip meeting and briefing. At the meeting I didn't find out that much it was all a bit vague and rushed! Also no one really chatted to me so I wasn't sure on the groups and who I would be with. Adam and Amy had tried to introduce me to two couples they had met on the bush camp so that I could be in their car group etc but they didn't really make an effort with me and I felt a little like a third wheel ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Noosa October 14th 2013

Caught the coach to Noosa, didn't take too long! Love the accommodation it is a holiday lodge all wooden and with a view looking out into trees etc so you really feel in the wild! I checked in and was in the same room as Adam and Amy again! We went to the beach to relax and it's a lovely beach and I really like the town which is a good job because I have 6 days to fill in Noosa! We went in the sea and swam with the waves and tried out their waterproof camera but we all got a bit burnt from being in the sun and the water. We had a welcome meeting at the hostel at 6pm with a free glass of wine and then after that we chilled and shared ... read more

Really enjoyed the coach ride to Brisbane looking out the window and I had a lollypop that the French guy had one for us the night before! (No one can remember his name!) I noticed these beautiful purple trees as we arrived into Brisbane and they really stand out against the other green trees. I walked to the wrong hostel because there are 3 of the same chain in Brisbane but they have me a map and showed me where to go. Brisbane is a little but like Sydney as it's busy and modern looking however there are less tourists and no opera house! I decided to go for a walk to see the area so I walked down through the main shopping area and into the botanical gardens. From the edge of the gardens I ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Surfers Paradise October 8th 2013

Met some nice people on the coach from Byron to surfers, found out the couple Adam and Amy are from hailsham.. And the other guy is Canadian! It was a bit confusing arriving in surfers because it is part of Queensland and they do not have summertime there so I had to put my clock back again! I overheard the people I'd met saying they were in the same hostel as me so I caught the shuttle bus with them to the hostel and they insisted I stay in a room with them! We all went to the shop and they bought dinner for me to split up to make it cheaper! Then they cooked it while I napped as I was so tired from my 5am sunrise excursion! Amy showed me a plan of their ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Byron Bay October 4th 2013

After my good nights sleep I decided to try and make the most of the day and headed to the beach and to try and get a bit of a tan! I still managed to fall asleep on the beach even after sleeping all night in the hostel - I think the overnight coach really took it out of me! I still wanted to try and make an effort getting to know people in the hostel even though I knew I was going to a different hostel the next day so I bought some goon and sat in the kitchen area, I ended up sharing it with Yvonne a Dutch girl I had met earlier who had actually been on the same coach as me. we then decided to head over to Aquarius to meet up ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Byron Bay October 3rd 2013

The coach journey was soooo long (overnight!) and I forgot my subway to eat on the coach and forgot my water.. Had to pay almost $5 for one at a service station! Also I only had my shorts on and the aircon was on so got really cold - had to wear my hoodie on my legs so I put my legs through the arm holes!! I took my blow up pillow with me too and that burst as we were leaving Sydney so the whole coach journey was a disaster! I finally arrived in Byron bay and the weather was really hot, a girl came to pick me up from the bus stop who seemed really nice and told me all the plans for the evening! I thought things were starting to look good until... ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Kings Cross September 29th 2013

Had my worst day today, didn't really feel like doing anything so just walked to the opera house and through the botanical gardens. Wasn't really feeling myself didn't really no what I'm doing with my travels after Sydney was feeling a bit torn about whether to go to Darwin with Alex or whether to go up the coast. I read in my book that it is the monsoon season in Darwin and lots of Mosquitos go there so think I'm leaning more towards going up the east coast. Spoke to an English girl called Natalie about it after watching movies in the lounge and made up my mind about the coast. This improved my mood because I had made a decision and ended up having the best night out.... We went to Hugo's and had $5 ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Kings Cross September 27th 2013

Had a really really good night out. I was meant to be checking out but the Blue parrot is so nice that I have extended my stay! Plus I still have a few more things to see in Sydney anyway! Went to bondi beach with Erin and Cindy and the chilean francisca and chilled on the beach. Had to get a short train and bus there but only takes about 10 mins and is supper easy. Alex joined us a bit later and we all went to a lovely Greek cafe just up from the beach and the guys in there were really friendly. I added Francisca on Facebook and found out that we had a mutual friend! It was a guy that I met in Ibiza and he has been staying at the hostel before ... read more
