Its a far cry from the dry dusty deserts of Boulia, here in the wet tropics. Amazing to think it is only 10 hours drive away. We have explored heaps of rainforests around Mission beach and in the Atherton Tablelands. In Yungaburra Clancy and I did a night canoe on Lake Tineroo around the rainforest, spotlighting. It was exellent and we were lucky to see the rare Tree Kangaroo, 2 in fact , heaps of possums and some water dragons. We camped on the banks of Lake Tineroo and met some people who took the girls out on thier biscuits behind a speed boat. Headed from there down the Karanda Range into Cairns. So great to see my sister and the girls. We had a lot of great days with them all. Visited the Australian Butterfly ... read more

Well it's been a long time since the last entry. I'm actually in Alice Springs at the moment. I was going to post all this from Cairns, but there was no way I was paying the prices the internet connection providers were asking for wireless access in Cairns. ($10 per hour, come on - it's $3 to $4 per hour everywhere else). Anyhow, I've done a fair bit of travelling up here. From Cairns, past Cape Trib and up the Bloomfield Track to Cooktown, along into Lakefield NP, and along a really fun 4WD track from laura into the old gold mining area of Maytown on the Palmer River. I've also visited the hills around cairns (Kurumba, Atherton, Mareeba) where it's cool and green. Anyhow, have a look at some of the pice. Hope you enjoy. ... read more

Hello All! As per usual we have been super busy, and the last week and a bit has been probably our best times in Australia so far. Some good places visited and some nice photos taken along the way! Here you go... Thursday 27th we woke up in Airlie Beach and got picked up for our tour of the Whitsunday Islands from a local bus stop. The tour was with Mataray and we had a few stops throughout the day at various Islands and areas. On the way out the habour they offered us wetsuits as it was going to be cold in the water and we had some snorkling to do. Nick spotted a turtle in the habour as we were leaving! It was a nice family run business and the Grandad and Gandma of ... read more

Reg and I have just returned from a 7 day holiday package in Cairns. We crammed five tours into our seven day trip and hired a car on our only day off to do our own exploration of Port Douglas and downtown Cairns. The weather was perfect ranging between 20 and 30 degrees every day. The gardens were lush and colourful with plants that we struggle to grow in pots thriving as massive shrubs in between the palm trees. Our tours took us; a) on a tour of the Cairns City highlights including the Bontanical Gardens, Royal Flying Doctor, Palm Cove etc. Followed by the Night Zoo where we had a bush BBQ, met the creatures by night, sang along to Aussie bush ballads (I played the Wobble board in the Bush Band) and also did ... read more

We are already in Cairns. The first picture was taken in Rockhampton, the best place to eat a steak. It was served raw on the stone heated to 400 C. and it was up to the individual how you cook it. The trick was to cut one piece at the time when you felt it is ready for meat to not to loose moisture. The meat was seasoned only with salt and it tasted the best ever. Pierwsze zdjecie bylo zrobione w Rockhampton, w najlepszym miejscu gdzie mozesz zjesc steka. Doprawione bylo jedynie sola i pieprzem a ... read more

Well, our last day in Cairns was an eventful one. We had booked on a tour to the rainforest which took in many different sites along the way. This tour was supposed to be more for the young 'uns so how the hell we got on it I don't know. (speak for yourself Woody you old duffer!) We were picked up at 8:30 by Hutch and his 'On The Wallby' tour bus. There were only 8 people on the tour and as we picked them up we were introduced to them. It was a truely multicultural crowd withr representatives from the UK, Germay, Switzerland and Slovenia. I think Hutch was a stand up comedian in a former life - during the day he cracked jokes, thrilled us with campfire stories and played some God awful music!!! ... read more
