Wow, I hadn't realised how long it had been since I updated until I re-read my last entry! I'm heading into my third week of working for WorkCover QLD, it was incredibly boring at first, they had me standing in front of a photocopier for the first two days solid! I was not impressed, I feel I've paid my dues as a gopher already, and they certainly aren't paying me enough to put up with it. However, needs must as the devil drives, and if I wanted a flat, I had to have money. Now it's just stressful, these people are so far behind that they can't even take time to train me, which means I'm not helping out as much as I'm sure I would be able to. Oh well, twill do til something better ... read more

I ended up completely bypassing Surfers Paradise. It looked horrible. Fill of high risers, macdonalds and dingy bars. Not what I imagined at all, so kept on the coach and headed for Brisbane. I met an Irish girl from my room, and then headed to see Natasja who I met in Auckland. We jumped onto the City Cat ferry and took a tour of the river around Brisbane and checked out several places. Brisbane looks its best at night with all the lights I think. We ended up going into China Town and having dinner and before we knew it, the evening was late and nearly over. The next day, was amazing. The morning didn’t start off great, as I has to trek to Vodafone in the rain, plus I got rubbish sleep. Me and the ... read more

The Palace is a pretty cool place. That's where I'm staying. It's actually called Palace Backpackers now but it was originally called The People's Palace and, affectionally, known as the Lady of Lace due to the wonderful lattice work around the building. It was owned by the Salvation Army and has been threatened with being knocked down on several occasions contributing to why it is heritage listed these days. The Salvation Army opened it on 27 June, 1911 for the average Joe. Rooms cost $8 a night at one stage. That's a bit of a contrast to the $45 that I pay. Just about the whole building has stayed original. I am staying on the fourth floor, with is pretty alright. I ventured down to the third floor last night and I thought that was nice ... read more

What now? So when I booked a plane ticket to Brisbane about a month ago, I did it for several reasons. * I like Brisbane (or is it that I'm unfamiliar with it?) * to see my friend Mary * XXXX Bitter * it's reeeeeeally far away from where I came from; and * railways go all over the place from here. And I like railways. Those people who were extras on All Terrain canceled so I'm free to do whatever the hell I want again but I'm not really packed to have time off anymore so I'm without one or two silly things which I would usually take on a holiday-type thing. So now I'm booked up to my fourth night here (tomorrow night) and the sky is the limit from there on. But I ... read more

6 weeks in Bella, over 6000 Km, 6 million amazing experiences, about 6 dollars left in our bank accounts and you will all be pleased to know, more than 6 showers!! Anyway... after thinking my senses had been overloaded by stunning Fraser island we set off again towards Airley Beach (the gateway to the Whitsundays). Most travellers get the 14hr overnight bus from Rainbow to Airley missing out on spots such as Town of 1770, Agness Waters, Hervey Bay, Bundaburg and other lovely little beach towns along the coast. The great thing about being in Bella is that Holly and I get the best of both worlds, we have found that we love exploring all the tiny one-wallaby-towns but every so often we like being around other backpackers doing the traveller thing. Airley Beach was a ... read more

I just want you all to know, it's one week from tomorrow that I leave!!! (How exciting!!) AND I will also be travelling a bit around Singapore, Abu Dhabi/Dubai as these are my stop-over points, and have quite a few hours to kill in each place!! Chris' family are in the midst of moving to Dubai, so his dad is there already, and is going to pick us up from the airport and take/show us around a bit before heading out on another plane over to Amman. And as for Singapore, I have about a whole day there before my next flight out, so will have to stay somewhere and do some sightseeing...!! So I got my Syrian Visa the other day, and hopefully I will get my Chinese Wisa back on Tuesday. And then apart ... read more

First of all two days left in Brisbane! The alarm went off today at 5:50 even though Shelly's had been going off constantly it seemed since 5:00. I got up and grabbed a shower. When I got back I said good bye to Shelly as it was the last time I would see her in Brisbane. I grabbed all my work stuff and went to AWX. They had cereal out waiting so I did not have to eat my PB&J that I had made. I still did anyways though. I sat around there reading the papers like usual enjoying my coco pops with TONNES of milk. Figured I would get my dairy for the day since it was free lol. Turns out the weather is still killing the work situation. Casey a guy who deals with ... read more

Today I woke up at 6:30. The plan was for Mike and I to both work with Adrian today. We were to meet him at his shed in Strathpine for 8:30. Nothing interesting happened before work. Woke up, had a shower, grabbed breakfast, got my gear and left. We showed up to the shed at 8:20 and shortly after I received a call from Adrian with a request to throw some stuff in the back of the truck. Mike and I got to that and then waited for him to show up. He arrived I introduced Mike and Adrian and we were off. The plan was to go back to a site that I had been to last week before the massive rains. We arrived at the site around 9:00 and it was still too wet. ... read more
