Upon leaving Sydney we arrived in Cairns only to find that for the next 2 weeks we would be experiencing some of the hottest and most humid weather...With that said it has made our tanning a little difficult...But worry not...We are still very dark...We stopped in Cairns for two nights and stayed at a nice hostel called Gilligans...In the north of Queensland they have a lot of jelly fish and crocodiles so no one really swims in the ocean...Luckily, Gilligans had a really nice pool so we cooled of there for most of the day...From Cairns we rented a car and drove up north to Cape Tribulation...On the way we hit up Hartley's Crocodile farm to check out some of the native flora and fauna...Seeing as Elizabeth is deathly afraid of crocodiles it was a funny ... read more

Our first Christmas Eve in Australia and we chose to attend midnight service at St John's Cathedral in the City. The sandstone building is not yet complete and the interior is fairly stark and ordinary, particularly by comparison to St Nick's in Newbury where we have attended Midnight Service for so many previous years. By contrast, the life-sized nativity figures sculpted in cardbord were beautifully made in representational form. The three Kings stood majestically opposite us. We arrived 30 minutes early for the 11.00pm service and we got seats about two-thirds of the way back down the nave. It was very well attended, so we did not have a view of the high altar, but everything could be heard including the excellent choir, albeit we thought the organist was a little 'pacey'. Although a little 'high ... read more

Well it's my last day here in Brisbane, and I'm definitely excited to be going up to the Whitsunday Islands and Airlie Beach! Ah sun, sand, and warmth.... Last night I got together with two of my old classmates from when I studied here at Griffith University last year. It was great to see Cardine and Chris again! They were telling me how some people have gone crazy, and about all the wackos in the dorms now :) Ah brings back memories *sigh*. Chris met me outside the Down Under Bar (DUB), and we walked back to the Meyer Shopping Centre (where we used to get in from taking the bus) and had a few drinks at the Beach Grill or whatever it was called. Very chill, with live music, and a sax player that was ... read more

Last night I wasn't thinking I was going to go out because one of my friends was up at the Sunshine Coast visiting his girlfriend and gets back today, and my other friend had to work today, and couldn't stay out late which was understandable. Well I eventually did go out after being harassed by some pushy Indian men because I was Indian, and they were freaking out b/c I didn't speak Hindu or know any of these Indian actresses or anything...weird I know, but yes, I walked around for AGES, had come back, got harassed, left, finally decided to go to the Down Under Bar, and luckily in front of me were some girls from the hostel who were going out as well and we ended up spending the whole time together. We went into ... read more

So I'm here in Brisbane at the moment, completely bored out of my mind at the moment. Wandered around a lot today, looked in the shops, sat in Starbucks and wrote postcards. I won't be able to get together w/ my friends until tomorrow sometime, so I'm trying to figure out what to do tonight. Don't really want to sit in the hostel room for hours on end alone, so I guess I'll figure out something to do hopefully! I'll try and meet some random people, that's always fun :) Going to keep this one short and sweet. Cheers!... read more

Divers ascend the underwaterworld in stages - it's about balancing the pressure in your bodies' airspaces. Reacclimatising. Easing into life on land. We had 36 hours in Brisbane. Our little stopover. Post-paradise and pre-populace, pollution and... parenting! It was about balancing the pressure in our minds' breathing spaces :) Brisbane has by all accounts morphed from that pitstop on your way to and from your REAL destination - to an adult city - burgeoning with the sophistication of trendy cafes, modern galleries and cool converted warehouses. Our little layover in the Central Business District was very conveniently located a stone's hurl away from the gorgeous winding Brisbane River with it's ferries, catamarans, sailboats and Story Bridge. Summer hadn't quite arrived yet but the balmy weather drew little flocks of Brisbanites out in the parks and along ... read more

Noosa Heads Several people on our tour to Fraser Island had recommended Noosa to us. Apparently it was the place to go kayaking, boating and surfing. I drove us into Noosa and we arrived around lunchtime. We had difficulty in finding a campsite, but eventually found one by the river. We had intended to stay a couple of nights, but after finding out the price of sites (powered $40, unpowered $33.80 due to school holidays) we decided to just have one night on an unpowered site. We booked onto a 2 hour guided kayaking tour for the following day at the campsite then walked into town. Disappointingly you were not able to walk along the riverbank so we ended up walking along residential streets which made for a dull view. The people we passed were not ... read more
