We have been pretty busy over the last couple of days... Saturday was spent in Noosa, on a boat that we rented for the whole day. We set off in the morning at about 6:30, and arrived in Noosa at about 9am after having breakfast at a service station on the way. We packed all of our stuff into the boat, and then headed up the river to a fishing spot near some reeds. As soon as I cast my line for the time, I had a bite, and managed to land a potato cod which was really ugly, but quite a good size for the fish in that river. We spent about 2 hours fishing, and caught about 5 fish. Some perch, and another type of tropical fish. Mel caught two fish, which was great ... read more

Today I woke up earlier then usual. Definatly because I had slept on the night before. As bad as it seems I would much rather save 18 dollars a night and sleep on the floor because 18 dollars goes a long way in my lifestyle right now. After waking up I grabbed breakfast and went to the front desk. I asked them when I could check into my room and wether I would be able to get into the 32 bed dorm we had been sleeping in before as opposed to the 6 bed I was scheduled to sleep in. As it turns out I was able to get into it. So I saved 18 dollars by sleeping on the floor and 7 by getting into the cheaper room, which I would much rather be in ... read more

Today we knew that there would not be a whole lot to do because of it being good Friday. The only thing I needed to do was check out before 10 AM. I woke up at 920 and began moving my stuff under Mikes bed. After that I grabbed the sheets and checked out. For the next 5 hours atleast we grabbed breakfast and then lounged around the pool. Around 3 Oclock I went down to our room and Andreas was packing his stuff. Turns out that there wasnt space for him either. He was stressing out a lot worried about where he would sleep. He phoned all his contacts in the city with no response. He ended up finding a room in a hostel owned by the same owners as this hostel. He was waiting ... read more

We are back in Brisbane now... We arrived today at about 3pm from Sydney, after experiencing Qantas' idea of making check-in quicker, which is called 'Quickcheck' although it does not live up to the name, as it makes everthing about 3 times as long as just checking in normally. We were also delayed for about 45 minutes, so left at about 2:20 rather than 1:35 (Sydney time). The flight was quite good. It was really quick, and we got a snack, which wasn't great, but it was okay... We landed in Brisbane a bit later than scheduled. We met Sophie and Dad at the gate, and we went to collect our bags. We went up to Mt Cootha, and took some photos of the city, and then headed back to the unit to unpack, and have ... read more

Today I woke up at six Oclock. I had to go to the job agency because my other job was over. I went early because I assumed that if you are one of the first there that you would leave first. WRONG! turns out that who ever the employees see first leave first. The result....didnt get a job. After a while of being bummed, I tried to make the best of my day. I txt Andreas my Chilean friend and asked to use his computer. He said it only worked at the libraries and didnt work at the hostel so I went to the state library which was the closest. I started adding the pictures. two hours into it I was half way done adding them to Facebook. I also had goosebumps because of the airconditioning ... read more

Today we slept in a little to make up for all the sleep we had missed while working. After that we grabbed food and showered then headed out. We went to the grocery store on a legendary shopping excursion. We ended up spending 90 dollars on food for two people lol. Hopefully it will last for atleast a week. After that we went to 'Big W' which I am assuming is Walmart because they have the same 'we sell for less' slogan. There we grabbed thick tube socks because our feet have been getting torn up with the boots we baught. After that we walked back with all the groceries which was no easy feat. When we got back to the hostel we unpacked it all and tried to sort our where to keep it all. ... read more

Today we woke up bright and early at 5:00 AM to go to work. The kitchen wasn't open so we just grabbed some pieces of bed that we kept below mikes bed. We went to the work agency for 6:00 and when we got there we heard through some people that had been working for the agency for a while that we wouldnt be working untill atleast 7. We sat back and waited for the work to come it. Luckly the agency was nice and brought down cereal with milk and such to eat. At around 7 an employee came down from the offices upstairs and said there was work for whoever was the first person who ended up being me. I was assigned to work for a landscape company who was working at a MASSIVE ... read more

Almost two weeks into the 'trip'. We woke up at 8:00 because we had an appointment at 10 for our blue cards. We grabbed breakfast and got ready. After that we headed into town to catch the bus which would take us to the north east part of the city to a little house which turned out to be the office of a labour job agency which also taught and tested for the blue card. To get the card we had to read a powerpoint which took about an hour. It was impossible to focus for the whole time so I brought some arrowroot cookies so I could eat something while taking a break. We had to read a tonne of information about everything you could think of explained as if it were from a dictionary. ... read more

So we arrived in Brisbane expecting very little as most people hate it. We orignally planned to stay a week but only lasted 4 days. As a city its pretty dull and very much centered around office like and a concrete jungle that reminded me of a typical city up north. Now for the good bits. Streets beach is a manmade lagoon and beach in the heart of the city next to Brisbane river and is really nice on a hot day. The botanical gardens had some great wildlife in them and the free bus got us around the city with ease, im struggling for positives. i think we have been spoilt up to now and this was a little ordinary. The night out was crazy,we played bar wars and won alot of free drink, brisbane ... read more
