R : Our flight from Brisbane landed on a beautiful sunny Monday afternoon at Proserpine, which is the industrial city near the Whitsunday coast. Around the airport were Wallabies, everywhere, hopping about enjoying the sunshine. We headed into town on a shuttle that took a huge amount of time, so by the time we got to our accomodation it was nearly dark. We chatted at length with reception about the tour possibilities, knowing that the weather forecast for the week was looking a bit bleak! Being a public holiday, a large proportion of the shops and restaurants were shut, so we headed to a pub for a semi-decent and vastly overpriced meal. Australia is hugely expensive to us now, given the gradual slump in the AUD v GBP rate - both Cate and I remember a ... read more

AIRLIE BEACH AND DARWIN AIRLIE BEACH - 13th March The main attraction of Airlie Beach are the nearby Whitsunday Islands and it the gateway for people on the Cruise ships to visit the Great Barrier Reef. Airlie Beach is on the Coral Sea, as are the Whitsunday Islands and it has a tropical climate. Since we were here in 2014, there has been considerable investment in the Cruise terminal area. This is a tender port for Cruise ships so getting people ashore has to be slick and there are lots of ferries to go to the neighbouring islands. We landed at the newer terminal and a short shuttle ride dropped us off in the main town centre. The area is dependent on tourism and all these new improved facilities will attract more visitors. More yachts and ... read more

Arriving back in Cairns we discovered that it had rained hard all week while we were away, evident by the many puddles still visible around the camp site. Our caravan had been moved from storage to a good sized site and all set up for us.We stayed for 2 more nights in Cairns before heading down the coast.Stopping overnight at a free camp in the small but quaint town of Home Hill to break our journey passing Townsville this time as we headed for Airlie Beach We were booked in at the big 4 resort just out of town and on the way into the way into Airlie Beach. Here we where to meet up with friends once again, Ronnie and Cheryl who had arrive there days earlier.Although having stayed at this camp ground several times before we still ... read more

Day 11 Left hotel about 8, no brekkie included so decided to get some on route to Airlie beach! Stopped in a town Called Ayr! Had a very nice omelette and hubs had a big brekkie piggy! Then 2 locals came in, I think they may have been the local crazies! On account of the lady having 8 hair clips in her hair, you know the real glitzy/big flower kind and that was just the side of her head I could see! (heard the girl behind the counter say hello you're in very early today!) they sat across from us and kept looking at us! Clearly we were sat in their seats!! We finished our brekkie and left - before we were out the door they were sat in our seats lol! Gotta love the Aussie ... read more

Jego właściwości determinuje skład – ... read more

Sunday 11th October 2015 Today was the day! We left the Port Airlie marina just before 0400hrs the wind only blowing lightly. Everything went smoothly and with Barry at the helm for the first watch, we went back to bed. Rags was soon asleep, the sound of the motors lulling him off. A change in the note of the engines woke him at 0630, Barry having lifted the speed from 10 knots to 15 knots. He joined the other 3 crew and hot coffees were soon on the go. By 0700hrs everyone went about their various tasks. When we left Airlie the boat carried 5600 litres in the boat tanks, 2500 litres in the stern bladder, and 500 litres in the bow bladder. At 10 knots 82 litres/hour was 'burnt' increasing to 270 litres/hr at 15 ... read more

Sunday, 4th October 2015 Our big adventure commenced today. Ian, Graeme,Mark and Rags left Perth Airport at 2300 arriving in Prosperine, Queensland via Brisbane. Here we were picked up by Barry and driven to Airlie Beach, arriving about 1.5 hours later. Barry and his wife Diane have an apartment here where they live for several months of the year. The apartment overlooks the Port of Airlie marina where their boats Indian Pearl and Indian Pearl 2 are moored. Indian Pearl 2 is a new Horizon 72 power yacht and the reason why we are here. The four of us are joining Barry and over the next 3-4 weeks intend to drive it around the top of Australia to Fremantle, Western Australia, a distance of 3500 Nm. Ports such as Cairns, Thursday Island, Darwin, Broome, Port Hedland, ... read more

Alright, well haven't posted in a while! I think my last post was my last day in Cairns (feels like forever ago!) After Cairns, I went to Mission Beach. The hostel I started at is called Jackaroo. It felt more like a tropical resort than a hostel. They had a swimming pool, hammocks, a slip and slide, giant outdoor movie screen, games rooms etc. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and felt like a big family. By the time I left, I knew everyone's names, where they're from and a bit about them. There isn't much to do in mission beach. The first day I checked out the beach and "town" (it's like 10 buildings). The beach was pretty nice and there was absolutely no one there. It goes on as far as the eye can see and ... read more

So after an over night bus, where I didn't get much sleep. I arrived into Airlie Beach, my first stop was registration for the boat I was due to sail on. I walked from the bus station and after getting a little lost, managed to find the office. They told me I had to leave my big bag behind, so franticly I repacked (I was already late, due to registration being 30min before my bus got in). I then took my bag and walked to the pier for the boat, a 30min walk, I had 30min to get there in, it was going to be tight!! Once arrived we were given forms to sign and then tried on wet suits. We also learnt that the name of the boat 'Spank Me' is a racing term, where ... read more
