Hey guys Sorry its been a while but i have just been so busy over the last week that i haven't had a chance to sit down let alone write one of these but i'm here now and its better late than never eh!! ok so where the heck do i start? Well last Friday I said goodbye to the Farnams and hopped on a very long train journey through the middle of Oz. I was on a train called the Ghan (named after the Afghan camels they used to build it - fountain of knowledge me!) that would take me up to a little place called Alice Springs. The train was a great way to travel and see the landscape of outback Australia so i'm really glad i did it although it did take 20 ... read more

Days 135 - 138 We arrived safe and sound in Darwin after a stop at 2 am at the scariest petrol station ever. It was full of drunk aboriginees and it was literally in the middle of nowhere. We also stopped at a place called Katherine which is a popular destination apparently but we couldn't quite work out why!! When we arrived at our hostel in the early evening we chilled out for a bit then went out for a pizza. We had a well deserved lie in then went into town. As we started to walk back it absolutely tipped it down so we sat out most of the rain in a pub. Stuart then got a taste for it and we decided to go for an all dayer. Had a break in between for ... read more

Call this a wet season?!?! Sure, it rains, but i don't see what the fuss is about... Truth is, I was pretty lucky with the weather up here. Haven't seen any serious thunderstorms, which is lucky, as i was camping a week ago. It is raining right now, but it is warm enough that you dry pretty much as soon as you go inside. I was trapped in the reception of a holiday inn for quite some time waiting for the rain to abate one evening. Watching people go around their business in a hotel was an interesting contrast to hostel living. Think i prefer the hostels. I got to Darwin three weeks ago and met up with the Austrian girl, Katrin, who i travelled with for most of January, and Jano, a French guy who ... read more

After a shrot drive from Darwin we stopped in a town called Jabiru in the heart of Kakadu national park to find the only accommodation out of our budget and the nearby NP attractions closed due to the huge rains that have besieged the area. We decided to drive a further 50km south (still in Kakadu national park) where we were able to stay at the Gagudju Lodge YHA in Cooinda where we settled in for a evening BBQ of sausages and a swim in the stunning pool as part of the complex. Tomorrow we will take the Yellow River boat cruise and must be up at 7:30am - ouch! Mike... read more

Well another day, another 40 degrees heat, another amazing afternoon thunderstorm and another 80% humidity (Sigh!) :( Well the bad news is my Acer Laptop is knackered. It needs a new motherboard at $900 so have bitten the bullet and bought a new Compaq one $1100 (double the spec) - oops forgot its Aussie set up so has no pound signs and the keys are a bit backwards - but then thats most of Australia for you. Also spent $260 having a man come out to fit a new front windscreen in Sheila as she took a chip off the road and with the tremendous heat causing the air to expand in the car the chip had spread into a 2 foot crack down the passengers window so thought best to replace it ahead of our ... read more

Hello peeps, Quick cathup on the old blog as it has been a while. Have actually been working on a different type of blog which is taking shape and will be live over next few weeks - no need for different address - you will just see the change when it takes place, hopefully for the better anyhow! We are now in Darwin having driven 1,900km in 2.5 days from Broome - a drive which took us through amazing scenery and into the Northern Territory where we gained 1.5hours ahead in time difference, so we are now 9.5 hours ahead of UK time!!! They weren't lying when they said it was the wet season up here. Daily temperatures have stayed 35-40 degrees punctuated with monsoon downpours lasting for an hour and terrific lightning displays and amazing ... read more

DAY 1~ Got picked up nice and early at 06.30 ready for our Kakadu experience!! We jumped into the front of the van thinking we had the best seats in the house...we soon realised that they were by far the hottest as we were sat right on the engine! Also in the front was 2 other couples, both English, Anna & Iain and Sara & Chris, oh and also our gorgeous guide Brad! First stop was Litchfield National Park! This was the place where they filmed crocodile dundee which wasn't too reassuring as we were walking through the bush! Next we stopped off to see some of the largest Termite mounds some reaching well over 12foot! Unfortunately we couldn't visit the famous Jim Jim falls & twin Falls as they were completely overflowing because of it ... read more

Hello from Darwin! Had to spend an extra week in Cairns as my bus came just once every 2 weeks so had an extremely boring week. I was pretty disappointed with Cairns actually, there was really very little to do in the City through the day and torrential rain all week didnt help either! I went snorkelling out on the barrier reef though which was really really special, Ive never seen anything like it! I'm going to send some pictures and stuff like my skydive dvd home shortly so if you want to see them, just track down my mum and dad! So on Saturday I left and spent a night in Hughenden, Mount Isa (the only town of real significance for 700km's in any direction!) and Renner Springs before arriving in Darwin yesterday. The trip ... read more
