Erre külön rákérdeztem, egyrészt mert nyilván... read more

The JUMPING CROCS On the way to Darwin we stopped on the Adelaide River to see the Jumping crocs!! It was mint! You sit in a fairly small boat and the bloke takes you up the river, within minutes a 6 metre saltwater croc called: Brutus sneaks up right next to me!! The bloke then holds up a stick with a string attached to it, on the string is a gert bit of steak…the croc then repels its whole body (850kgs!!) out of the water to grab the steak! Mint! This continued for an hour, we saw around six or seven crocs, some were more acrobatic than others. Darwin Then we drove to Darwin, the Capital of the Northern Territory. It was a lively, modern city with an easygoing lifestyle. It has some good beaches, we ... read more

(it costs $3,500 for 3 days!!!) i'm gonna be there for at the least two weeks (or longer if I want). I don't get paid but all my accommodation, food and flight is included and i get to do some of the trips on the days off!!! how cool! Scott writes: Bloody Hell, we know it has been a while since our last installment but we do have a good reason! We decided to take a proper road trip and drive across the country to Darwin and then down the centre from top to bottom, before heading east, to our final stop in Melbourne. Ok so starting where we left off in Cairns Cairns is a busy little party town which made watching the start of the world cup a blast, particularly as there were lots of different nationalities around which resulted in lots of banter, name calling & hair pulling. Also the Aussie's were in it which made for a little more interest as they also occasionally glanced at the screen. Well, very occasionally. They love their Aussie Rules 'Footy' (and don't even get ... read more

First day writing on a travel blog! Am hoping this will be easier that sending out group emails...and less annoying for people who don't like recieving them but still want to check what I am doing every now and again! Am still in Darwin but have decided the quickest way to get to Cairns is just to fly. Tried to find a car share but left it all a bit late and really want to meet up with Katie who have just spoken to! She slept most of the flight over and is now sitting by the pool with Clare and Roisin (but apparenty it is a bit cold to swim at the moment!). Have found a flight for $330 so just got to wait for Pat to get back from Kakadu and then we can ... read more

Well, what can I say - I have cocked up big time here! We arrived okay and got a taxi to the accommodation that we had booked. Well, we initially booked other accommodation, but the woman decided she could not fit 3 of us into one room so rearranged for us to stay with a friend of hers in the flat below her house. It seemed okay when we arrived and the lady very nice, but she then started with some comments that seemed a bit odd when you are encouraging people to stay in your house! Things like; the last bloke that stayed here got bitten by a snake when he stepped on it outside your door. The pool is not working because we had the back yard destroyed by a bush fire last week, ... read more

The midnight silence was abruptly curtailed by a shock of sound. A noise indicative of an approaching stampede emanated from the tin roof above. After hours of relishing a gripping narrative by headlamp in the comfort of a cozy bed, my golden solitude was interrupted. Maureen the ‘manageress’, a bastion of meticulous preparedness for the CWA Outback Mothers Memorial Hostel, had lost all her usual composure; she charged in, nightie flying. As she burst into my room, I put down my book like a guilty teenager busted in the act. Her voice radiated with a frightful fervour, “The pipes have burst, I just know it!” I jumped up out of bed to turn on the lights, and help Maureen locate the leak. The wavering voice of my elderly neighbour called out tremulously through the wall, “What’s ... read more

Travelers be warned: Darwin is an international hub for drunken debauchery. At every pub and backpacker joint in town, an onslaught of beer-guzzling Germans can be observed mingling with flirtatious Finns, bootilicious Brits, and cantankerous Canucks. Despite being in the notoriously remote “Top End” of Australia, there is no shortage of fashionistas sporting midriff, bared legs, and blonde highlights. Scoping the circuit for a suitable spot to study, I inevitably feel like a misplaced calf drifting in the international meat market. How long would it be until I was slaughtered, minced, and fried? “Nerdburger Special!” they’d shout, shelling me out at 63 cents a kilo. I woke up in a sweat, believing the auction had already begun. Bolt upright, I sighed with relief and exasperation as I realised the shouts were emanating from a drunken backpacker ... read more
